With Tony W. Walked up from layby on A685 (gate just south onto fell. Went on to Whinfell and back round via Borrowdale - nice 10 K circuit.HardenC09/03/2024
From the parking area by Borrowdale Wood on the minor road just off the A685. The plan was to follow the track up to the repeater station and mast but a randy bull in a field of Galloway Belters resulted in following the eastern side of the wall S up above the 255m spot height to meet the path coming from the mast with stone steps over the wall. Descent was over Birk Knott and skirting around the top of Borrowdale Wood to meet the track above the parking area. A very walker friendly land owner assists this route with ladder stiles and unchained gates. The darkening sky turned to rain shortly after starting, becoming sleet and then snow on the top, aided by a blustery wind. Wet underfoot. Retired to J28 services for a hot chocolate. Started from car park on A685, (picture in the English Marilyn app), walked 100m south next to the road and entered access land by a gate. Followed a small path, disappearing at times, up the left hand ridge to a cairn, then on to the trig pointBarry Smith07/11/2023

An easy walk on good paths from the lane south of Tebay up to the repeater station, then out and back to Whinfell Beacon and Grayrigg Forest. Overcast with some showery rain but not too unpleasant. Only Winterscleugh left!BURGESS12/07/2023

Start from parking area at Grid 606014. follow the road to the track leading up the fell and continue to the first mast then up the road to the second mast continue down then up to the trig point of Grayrigg Forest. Returnback to the masts and drop down the road to you pick up a path to the right follow this to the wall climb over and next to the gate before climbing up a fairly steep slope to the top of Whinfell Beacon. Return to the first mast and descend back on the same path to the road, then back to the start.smocks and denims04/11/2022

From the Relay station but no sign of path and had to climb wall. Coming back path appears and disappears but did find the stone stile to go back over the wall. Then on to Whinfelljohnjennison18/06/2022
From Tarnside along the radio station road and a grassy trod leading over the wall to Greyrigg Forest, then back to another grassy track leading through two gates onto Whinfell Beacon. Easy walking and excellent views.Nick Down130/04/2022

A 2nd visit with L. Calm and sunny 5hr walk from A6 layby after my 13 day virus lay up. Linked grassy S ridge tops then down N and back along the beautiful Borrowdale -with the farm and meadows being a touch of paradise -utter calm as hidden by the folds of the hills and nature -chickens and rabbits nibbling the grass together. Wainwright thought this was the most beautiful valley outside of Lakeland -its now in Lakeland of course and the Friends of The Lake district have bought High Borrowdale and its hay meadows to preserve its cultural and natural beauty - a fine choice.Chris Pearson20/09/2021
A gentle meander up the track. A hill where trees are grass....PhilipChaston30/08/2021

From road junction near mast. Up to ridge and then followed tracks to top. Good views on a clear day.PeterD01/07/2021
Very interesting hill to visit but more so for the superb view of others rather than the actual one you're on.Alex C27/06/2021

From Hucks layby - Ashsteads Fell, Mabbin Cragg, Castle Fell, Whinfell Beacon, Grayrigg forest, Grayrigg Pike, Birk Knott, valley bottom back to carphilz00830/05/2021
13.5 mile circular from A6 layby following good but boggy trail over Ashtead Fell, Mabbin Crag, Castle Fell, Whinfell Beacon, Grayrigg West Top (23m prominence) and Grayrigg. Then descending to valley and following easy grass trails across Winterscleugh, Whinash and pathless Pipers Hill back down to car. 1071m ascent. Sunny/breezy conditions with nice views. No one about. Bagged west top before ascent onto this hill. Had a 10 minute rain/hail shower on summit but clear the rest of the day.DanTrig18/05/2021

Combined with Whinfell to add to interest. Trig = great viewpoint on grey day since no other hills close.davechaffey01/05/2021
