Followed Wainwright walk out to Wasdale Pike with track virtually all the way on dry ground given recent weather. Couple of tops wrong side of fence/wall but were easy enough to get to. Returned over rough ground missing out Wasdale Farm by flanking Hazel Bank.SS25/07/2021

A6 summit > Hause Foot > High House Bank > Robin Hood > Lords Seat > Grey Crag > Harrop Pike > Great Yarlside > Little Yarlside > Whatshaw Common > A6 summit. Warm blue sky day with hazy views, Ground still very wet in places so was a bit of a slog at times. Just me and H and not another soul seen all day.johnkaysleftleg30/05/2021
Parked in the layby by the Shap bothy. Went through the gate , traversed to Old Shap Road heading for Whatshaw Common. Nipped over the wall to bag Whatshaw Common East (484) back over the wall to follow the track to Whatshaw Common. Back over the wall to follow the track to Little Yarlside. On the way to Great Yarlside we used the vehicle track on the west side of the wall that goes up to the summit , i.e. hop over the wall again. Bagged Great Yarlside , my watch said 592m. Back over the fence and along the track to Wasdale Pike for lunch. So far- easy , tracks all the way. Beware the fence near Wasdale Pike is not the one on the OS map. We followed it in the wrong direction for quite a way. We should have gone through the nearby gate and used our compass. Eventually made our way down to the ruined farm, followed the track then followed the fence/ plantation border up to the A6. No sign of the old farm track that Wainwright refers to in his book. 10km circuit.RowanP17/04/2021

Parking at NY552051. An extended version of Wainwright's Crookdale horeshoe. High House Bank, Robin Hood, Lord's Seat, Great Yarlside, Great Yarlside, Great Saddle Crag, back to Great Yarlside, Little Yarlside, Whatshaw Common, Whatshaw Common East Top, A6, back down to Hause Foot. Faint trods outbound, trackless waste around head of valley, excellent ATV track helped part way to Great Saddle Crag, otherwise lots of very wet boot wrecking tussock grass.Isbjorn26/08/2020

Straightforward ascent from the A6, but in a strong wind and freezing conditions - at least the track was hard with the ice and the views were good.JohnW30/11/2017

WOs 86-91; Bs 73-78. A good clear day with the sun coming through p.m. Drove to Shap summit and did a mixture of W's Wasdale and Crookdale horseshoes. Good path out over Whatshaw Common, Little Yarlside and Great Yarlside. The crossing of Crookdale was not as boggy as feared and a reasonable ascent to Lord's Seat with a good path over Robin Hood. Nasty bog to the foot of High House Bank, then good path along the ridge. Very unpleasant descent through tussocks and bog to the Hause Foot lane, then old road back to the summit. A good day.BURGESS09/08/2017
