With Izzy and Margo. The weather on the short drive up from home wasn't great but thankfully it lifted to give a lovely walk and views.James McKnight13/01/2024
From Troutbeck Bridge - Sour Howes, Sallows, Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Troutbeck Tongue. With R. On good path for pretty much the entire walk.Dan Baddeley06/01/2024
Parked at Church Bridge below Troutbeck, then straight up to Sour Howes, north along the ridge to Sallows, and back down to Church Bridge along the Garburn Road. Then up the other side through Troutbeck and along Nanny Lane to Wansfell Pike - busy. North along the ridge to both summits at Baystones. Continued north down to the A592, then across tough ground to Troutbeck Tongue, before dropping steeply down into the valley and back to Troutbeck. All the ground is saturated - especially the section from Wansfell to Troutbeck Tongue! 22km with nearly 1200m ascent, taking me 8 hours, just in the daylight throughout!silverwolf_alan01/01/2024

From Troutbeck Bridge: Sour Howes, Sallows, Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Troutbeck Tongue, then a rather rough and tiresome fight across to Baystones before dropping back to Troutbeck. 21km, 5h 50. Stunningly clear and cold.Rockdoctor15/10/2023
Same lovely walk as yesterday out from our Troutbeck cottage in the morning sunshine. 17 degrees for October. L finding clumps of sheep wool on the barbed wire fences that had almost felted itself into a dense mat in the rain. Paths still awash and boggy from recent rain Once again the clouds clagged in and with rain forecast we returned for indoor lunch in the cottage.5th ascent.Chris Pearson10/10/2023
4th ascent, 21 years since last climbed -also with L. From Troutbeck up SE steep Wainwright bagger's messy path whilst L shared her reading about aneurisms -and surgeons who are conscious of cutting through people's memories and personalities. Down long gentle north ridge of this giant glaciated 'roche moutonnee' with a lovey U shaped valley on its east side with its meandering small mis-fit stream. Marshy to col. Next was the steep toil up Scots Rake (Roman Road theory disputed - thought to be too steep and no evidence found. Packhorses used to bring peat down to Windermere- its zig zags now overgrown). Unexpectedly the sun came out and it was soon boiling hot and humid. Down to shorts. Drank all my water - refilled from passing stream. Caught up a retired group of 4 who were in 10 steps and stop mode - they were up from Essex having 3 comfy nights and meals it the Queens Head. Next caught up a family with 2 dogs which delayed us as they needed playing with (the dogs not the people)Chris Pearson09/10/2023
