From Wetherlam, back up the leg killer Prison band and back to the summit of Swirl How we made our way FINALLY to Great Carrs. Before the summit we stopped and looked around the plane crash memorial with was as fascinating as it was eerie and moving. From there the short walk to the summit. Much like Swirl How great views from the head of the valley down to Windermere and beyond. Absolutely brilliant day this one. just the short steep trip back to the car parked on Wynrose pass.Scotty 2 Hotty21/06/2018

Beautiful weather hike with Ian and Louise. Route from Wrynose Bottom to Skelwith Bridge, using two cars, over 11.5 miles and 6 summits:- Little Carrs - Hell Gill Pike - Grey Friar - Great Carrs - Swirl How - Black Fell. Wonderful clear view of Scafell range from Grey Friar, and early evening from Black Fell looking back up Langdales. Interesting but sad story of the plane crash on Great Carrs. Path down from Swirl Hause into Greenburn very indistinct (lost it several times!). Had late lunch in Three Shires Inn, Little Langdale, before the Black Fell section.mavero1028/09/2013

The greatest peak bagging day yet! Starting from Walna Scar car park, along Walna Scar road, a detour up Walna Scar hill, then Brown Pike, Buck Pike, Dow Crag, The Old Man, Brim Fell, Little How Crag, Great How Crag, Grey Friar, Hell Gill Pike, Little Carrs, Great Carrs, a brief pause to pay respects at the monument, Swirl How, down Prison BandArond Levers Water and the mine as it was getting dark and got back to the car as the lights went out. Next time remember torch & glasses!mickdavidson25/09/2013

First visit on a Torver to Langdale Boddington Hall walk. We kept to the highest ground all the way from Dow Crag to Crinkle Crags. Higher summits were in the cloud and Cold Pike to Crinkle Crags had some confusing moments as experienced mountaineers forgot compasses. I've kept mine in my cag ever since (except when using it, of course). Subsequently, this summit has been part of a Coniston fells walk and the most obvious- the round of Greenburn- is the best.pwheeler10/03/1974
