An adaptation of AW's Outlying Fells' Walks 7 + 8, visiting Healthwaite Hill, AW's nameless top (247m), over wall to Cleabarrow Hill, Grandsire, School Knott, and Orrest Head. A lovely 3 hour morning walk of 11km with 500m of ascent. (S) Good to finally visit Orrest Head, AW's starting point in his Lakeland adventure, which in turn fired my own enthusiasm for fellwalking.silveracorn_alan17/02/2022

After my works do in Clitheroe we went up knowing it was going to be awful weather in the afternoon for Bec and Myla to catch up on the Outlying fell before we really crack on next year 2019. Parked at the school and made the nice easy way up to the top passing the Gruffalo along the way. As we hit the top the weather came in so we headed down to the Christmas markets in Windermere. I have a pint of pale ale in the Crafty Baa and a chilli dog from the stall. Really nice easy day ending by watching Django and a chill.Scotty 2 Hotty08/12/2018

My first Wainwright Outlaying Fell. My ascent began from the top of the road that leads past Windermere town centre. Not much of a challenge for fit people but hard enough for me and my first Lakeland hill walk. Weather was fresh but clear and bright sunshine. The temperature was 12C. The hike up took me 19 minutes to the summit where wonderful views awaited me.Symon1p02/11/2018

WOs72,73,74,75 and 76. Rain forecast for p.m. so made an early start. Started from where Dales Way leaves the lane at Hag end and followed good paths to School Knott with good views over Windermere and up Langdale. Then went up and back over Grandsire and finished up and back over Cleabarrow. Then quickly up and down Brant Fell from lane just to the east with curtain of rain out to the west. Finally up and down Orrest Head in very wet and windy conditions - absolutely foul and no view of lake.BURGESS06/08/2017

Quick bag from our accommodation in Windermere, well worth it because the views are stunning on a clear and sunny day like today, afterwards we drove to the Kirkstone Pass and bagged Caudale Moor and St. Ravens Edge. This was the last day of three clear and sunny days in the Lake District, the day before we bagged Knott, Great Calva, Lowthwaite Fell, Longlands Fell and Binsey, the day before that we bagged Scafell Pike, Lingmell and Seatallan, excellent!DanTrig27/03/2017
