last hill of the day and a very long walk back due to leaving car much further down the hill and revisiting great dun fell as i couldn't see anything this morning 23 miles in totalcolinfielding13/05/2016
SECOND OF 10 BEAUTIFUL AUTUMN DAYS WHILE CAMPED AT ALSTON. ENCOUNTERED GROUSE SHOOTING PARTY NEAR SOUTH TYNE HEAD BUT NO PROBLEM. CIRCUIT FROM GARRIGILL FOLLOWING NUTTALLS ROUTE 9.1 OVER GREAT DUN FELL, LITTLE DUN FELL, CROSS FELL, BULLMAN HILLS, LONG MAN HILL AND ROUND HILL. VERY TIRING BUT MADE IT BEFORE DARK.BURGESS26/09/2015
Overnighted just over the watershed from the source of the s.tyne. walked up past Moor house and out and back to Knock Fell. Then over the Duns to Cross Fell and then out to Round Hill via Gregs Hut. So to my last N.Pen Hewitt. The crossing of crossgill pants didnt look inviting at all. however upon arrival I saw that there had been a plastic mesh laid down and so followed this away from the wall/fence and it led all the way to Cross Gill quickly and without incident. I then made my way through burnt heather and a few squelchy sections gradually meeting up with the fence again. far better than I'd dared hope for. The wall encountered higher up does not have a gate etc. so it's either climb over the wall or cross it at the fence just before the summit cone rises. A small cairn with a lovely view to the hills west and to Cow Green. Descended back to track and car.stig_nest08/08/2015

From Garrigill, drove up the road towards source of South Tyne. Walked on 2.5km (as the remnants of Hurricane Bertha approached and the skies darkened) and then turned up to the summit. Returned amidst thunder, lightning and torrential rain. A delightfully refreshing walk after 5 hours on the motorway!ruthatlast08/08/2014

Parked in field by track to Hole House at NY 75645 39029, as lane beyond Hill House impassable due to snow. Took Tyne Head track to just beyond a stand of fir trees after cattle grid. Then faint track up Noonstones Hill, leaving track to do an ascending traverse SW to north ridge of fell, and thence to small cairn marking the summit. Descended east by a track to River South Tyne and then by Tyne Head track to starting point. Winter conditions, with deep wind-blown snow, fierce NE wind, but strong sunshine. With Dad. Definitely the worst Nuttall I've yet done. Followed the fence and would not recommend - lots of peat hags. Nothing particularly interesting about it.AGWilliamson13/06/2011
