From the parking area in Murton for a Thirteen mile walk to the summit's of Murton fell, Little fell, Tinside rigg, Long fell and Roman fell. Returning via Hilton in Six and half hours.WAYNE ROWLETT08/04/2023
Circular route from Dufton, starting along Pennine Way to High Cup Nick. On to Murton Fell (didn't include B&L top) then Murton Pike, down to Murton. Return along road then section of A Pennine Journey bridleway back to start. Cold but relatively calm, clouds above the tops.RobertP05/03/2023
On a Warcop public access day. Parked at Murton and walked clockwise around a circular course picking up 3 as yet unclimbed Nuttalls and my last English Dewey. Once on the Warcop estate I only saw a farmer with his sheep, oh, and one bit of ammo hanging on a fence. I visited Murton Pike, Murton Fell (summit and B+L top), Little Fell (summit and the sadly damaged trig), Tinside Rigg, Long Fell, and Roman Fell (my final English Dewey). Altogether nearly 24km with 880m ascent taking me 7h 30m.silverwolf_alan04/03/2023
From the CP at Murton. Follow the path up and over to the shelters, from there over rough ground to Murton Fell B and L. Then Northwest over peat hags and passed small tarn to the small cairn of Murton Fell. From there back to the shelters and down to the path .Continue on and take the path to the top of Murton pike. Return down the same path and follow it back to the start.smocks and denims02/01/2023

From Cow Green Reservoir car park, via Pennine Way (Cauldron Snout, Birkdale). Took left path at Moss Shop, crossed Maize Beck, followed fence line to summit of Mickle Fell. Return to right of way, and on to Scordale Head, ascent of Little Fell (since learned this not encouraged even on non-firing days, but is suggested on some websites), return to Scordale Head, and summit Murton Fell. Return via High Cup Gill Head and Pennine Way.raymooremanx28/08/2022
Parked at Murton, walked into and climbed High Cup Nick, then on to Murton Fell. Climbed Murton Pike (a much more beautiful mountain) then dropped down to the car.oldbagger2711/08/2022
good parking area at start of track and good track most of the way but then no path between track nf summit, quite a boy of heather.dickscroop20/07/2022

Good parking area in Murton and good track most of the way then up patchy ATV track. Great viewpoint of the Vale of Eden and the shapely Murton Pike.Campbell Singer10/08/2021
Walked from Murton on a cold day, ground frozen from the car park and snow covering all the peaks (and bogs). Took track towards High Cup Nick, then took a NE bearing through cloud to reach summit area. Luckily we came out of the top of the cloud so could find the small cairn more easily. Stunningly clear views. Took in High Cup Nick then back down Middle TongueRockdoctor28/12/2020
Parked at Murton followed the track then rough path to the top.Fellhugger28/09/2020
A day of plausible denial. From Hilton. Conflicting MoD indicators MoD – flags not flying, lights not lit, barriers down. Along waymarked track SE to plantation, then up track to Long Fell mines; gunfire below. Up Roman Fell from col at NY761200, purgatorial veg; on to Tinside Rigg, tough veg. Bit of a path just before and after bridleway from Christy Bank, then ATV track to Little Fell. Corroded unexploded ordnance aplenty. From Little Fell a promising ATV track was abandoned several times as it kept veering off rather than going direct to Scorsdale Head, from which an ATV track sidles up SW along line of white posts to S top of Murton Fell, then it’s ruff’n’tuff N to the summit of Murton Fell. Ruff’n’tuff down to the mapped PF at the ‘shelters’. Down at the Murton CP, MoD display board says the area is off limits 6.5 days a week (access only after 13:00 on Sundays), with access to Little Fell only in escorted groups in July; there is no similar display board at Hilton – hence PDIsbjorn25/08/2020
From parking area in Murton. Murton Pike,Murton Fell then across to Murton Fell(B&L) after 1pm. Went steeply down into Scordale to return via Hilton.mart079717/07/2020

Did both summits. A hard slog from Mickle Fell. Just navigated with my GPS as I couldn't see any features that matched the map.clivevilla06/08/2016
Murton Fell may be climbed with Mickle Fell and Little Fell, both of which are on MOD-owned land and require a permit. However, Murton Fell is outside the restricted area and is best climbed on its own from Murton. A good stony track led upwards, past Murton Pike which is an impressive small hill but below 2,000 feet. The summit and whitewashed trig point can be seen from the village. The path passed Murton Crag, climbing and twisting, until it came to an end and I had to pick my way through marshy grass to the nondescript summit, merely a high point on a large expanse of grass.peter4lc27/07/2016
Route 9.4 from the Nuttall's book. Had a permit but no phone signal so didn't ring the guard room. Little Fell was reasonably straightforward and the route to Mickle Fell was fairly easy as long as you follow the Nuttall's directions and stick to the quad bike tracks. After this though it gets pretty hard and you're up to your ankles in heather most of the way to Murton Fell. Didn't see a soul all day. The only shell casings I saw were from grouse shooting. Pretty wet, cloudy and windy all day.tsharp09/07/2016

NINTH CONSECUTIVE SUNNY DAY FROM ALSTON BASE CAMP. FOLLOWED NUTTALL'S WALK 9.4. EARLY START (SCRAPED OFF ICE) FOR LONG DRIVE ROUND TO HILTON. HAD PERMIT AND PHONE CALL HAD AUTHORISED ROUTE OVER LITTLE FELL. WENT STRAIGHT UP GRASSY TRACK OVER SWINDALE BROW WHICH LED EASILY ALL THE WAY TO LITTLE FELL. EASY WALK ON TO MICKLE FELL KEEPING TO RIDGE AS ADVISED. NO SIGN OF SHELLS ANYWHERE BUT GROUSE SHOOTING PARTY IN THE BOTTOM BY SWARTH BECK. QUITE TOUGH DESCENT TO SWARTH BECK AND ROUGH WALK UP BECK, THEN SIKE TO MURTON FELL. EXHAUSTED, BUT EASY CROSSING TO BRIDLEWAY AND BACK DOWN MINE TRACK AS DUSK WAS FALLING.BURGESS03/10/2015
Climbed as part of a circular route from Hilton of Roman Fell, Long Fell, Tinside Rigg, Little Fell, Mickle Fell, Murton Fell x2 and Murton Pike. Mostly pathless peaty ground that was damp underfoot.JohnStoneham30/08/2015
From Hilton via Little fell and Mickle fell then via Maize beck.not an awful lot to say about this top. The pool marked on the map reveals itself at the very last minute. Theres peat hags between the top and yhe lower eastern top. Small cairn narks the summit but you cant help looking over to Murton Pike and thinking that looks more worthy. Returbed vua Swindale head. A stunning valley with stream both above and below ground. Waterfalls and mining. The scale of the mining is hard to believe.stig_nest01/08/2015
With G. Murton > Murton Pike > Murton Fell returning via High Cup Gill & Harbour Flatt.RT197024/05/2015
Backstone Edge - Meldon Hill - Murton Fell North top - Murton Fellronaldo33323/08/2014
Walked on my own from Dufton. Fine but a bit overcast. Very windy on High Cup Nick. The summit of Murton Fell isn't easy to find. The 'walk across the grass' is actually across peat bogs, and ankle turning terrain. A great walk over High cup Nick with amazing views does make up for it though.flockwatcher02/08/2013
From the BL&GR hill passing a nearly dried up tarn. Small cairn not far from a ruin. Continued to Murton Pike, with its white painted trig visible from afar.Aye Jimmy07/07/2013
