Walk along the Wrekins on nice sunny day hazy but far reaching views | iannotts | 23/09/2023 |
Parked at the Wrekin car park (£4 all day) near the m54, and followed half a country walking magazine route. Enjoyed that it skirted the hill to the east before the steep climb from the south, instead of just tip and down the wide, boring north route. Great views. With my LOST team. | gbeniston | 15/08/2023 |
Whilst working away from home a short evening walk on one of Shropshire's prominent summits. Used for navigation practice. Overcast clouds, 14°C, Feels like 14°C, Wind 10mph from WSW, visibility >6mi | higlett | 14/08/2023 |
We parked at the bottom and ran around the wrekin before going up. A clear sky and thankfully it was breezy at the top as it was quite warm. Great views and an enjoyable run! | explorewithpaws | 30/07/2023 |

Parked in car park to the N, closest to M54. Up onto ridge and along to Ercall hp. Descended around northern edge of quarry and up zigzag path of next quarry to Lawrence's Hill. Descent to main Wrekin car park and usual ascent route to Wrekin trig and hp to the north. Return retracing steps to road and along road to car park. Sunny day with good views and lots of people out. | richard69 | 22/10/2022 |
From usual carpark. Solo on way home from WK on return from Kinder day-walk. Gentle pace on a hazy dry morning. The trig pillar has been repainted and tiled plinth installed. | Skip | 31/08/2022 |
With daugther Tilly. Parked at main car park (£1 per hour or £4 for 4 hrs+), though if you get there early there's plenty free parking on nice layby few steps away. | mazz | 22/08/2022 |
Circuit from north, around fishing pond, trig and summit very busy, climbed needles eye - this and adjacent rocks covered in broken glass. Litter everywhere | Nick Canute | 07/08/2022 |
From the car park, very warm, very busy. | iangalbraith | 08/07/2022 |

Wrekin Walk - Short sharp ascent up The Wrekin with good views over Shropshire | JazDisney | 26/02/2022 |
1/4 From Buckatree Hotel, walked up the tourist route to The Wrekin on a sunny day, then from base of hill curved South East to take footpaths to Maddocks Hill, Lawrences Hill and The Ercall making a pleasant circuit of about 8 miles. Nice early spring walk not too muddy. | nickywood1 | 04/02/2022 |
Up the usual route from the carpark while travelling to WK for birthday. Dull afternoon, hazy weather, very muddy. Slower pace than usual. | Skip | 22/01/2022 |
Went up the route on the northern side that emerges at the summit and back down the bird-box path. A lovely sunny end to the day with terrific visibility. | andrewcoles | 04/11/2021 |
From car park to the NE with Isabel & Olivia, and Jim, Adam, Laura and kids. Took the traversing path through the woods on the NW side of the fell before ascending up the steep SW ridge. Visited trig point and true summit. Descended by way of the NE ridge, stopping off at the cafe on route for ice cream and coffee. | alistairpooler | 09/10/2021 |
Parked in a layby near the car park to the NE. Met a man on top who was on his 60th consecutive day of climbing this hill (in 2018 he did over 180 days) | paulhilder | 23/08/2021 |
Got off the train at Wellington, walked round the Ercall, up over the Wrekin, down the other side and back around the base. | Jael Break | 16/08/2021 |
Parked at the clearly marked car park and a fairly steel climb up to the summit. Sadly the half way cafe is no longer in business as a tea would have been most welcome! Many others doing the climb, fairly busy but ample spots to park. | jamiequackers | 06/08/2021 |
Some people around but relatively quiet. Made my way over from Wellington, up and through the Ercall before beginning the Wrekin climb. | HWBY | 25/06/2021 |
From Car park - bit hazy but still great views. | The Playful Pig | 22/06/2021 |
Ghastly, sooo many cars, sooo many people at the main CP at SJ638092. Saving grace is that it is a big lump to absorb them and thin them out. Up the main drag of the NE ridge, down SW ridge and back along E traverse through woods with cavorting grey squirrels, occasionally a mountain bike churned up mudfest. The mapped public toilets at the main CP do not exist - 'go' before you arrive. | Isbjorn | 12/04/2021 |

3rd tump of 6 on a route from Ironbridge to Wellington, climbing Strethill followed by the long walk to Charlton hill then on road to Upper Longwood then continuing. I took the fp into the conifer plantation then a forest track onto Shropshire Way with very steep pull up to craggy outcrop then pass Trig pillar to true summit. Fantastic views. Descent on main N Easterly route heading for Maddocks hill... | Dazingdale | 15/03/2020 |

Was down in Wellington for a wedding and asked the family about good walks in the area. So went up with some of them the following day to clear the hangover. Lovely scenery on a winter's day. Clear views for miles around at the summit. | richie_macdonald | 01/12/2019 |
Cloudy damp day, ascend from the southern side and descend from the main northern route. | brandybordeaux | 27/11/2019 |
From CP in the rain, sleet and snow. No view on top. | Andrew Pearson | 09/11/2019 |
Met Lindsey on her way home from Dorset. We walked my usual route on a cloudy afternoon. Spent half-hour at the summit and Needle's Eye rocks until drizzle blew in from Wales obscuring the views. Tea in The Huntsman pub. Then drove to WK. | Skip | 02/09/2019 |
Early start from the Wrekin CP up the tourist route to the true summit then onto the trig point. Lots of cars in the CP but no one at the summit area? Carried on along the ridge returning along the low level path 5m total. | Jephcote83 | 31/08/2019 |

Nice clear day. During SinS orienteeering event - tweaked my hamstring previous day. | davechaffey | 27/05/2019 |
Walk up from Wellington bus station on a lovely sunny May day, via the road below The Ercall. A steep climb but well worth it for the expansive views. The fort itself (other than the gates) is quite eroded, but you don't need much in the way of ramparts on a hill like this. I left through the southern gate after visiting the Needle's Eye. A steep drop down through the woods then back NE to join a really nicely waymarked path that took me all the way to Telford Town Park, via New Works, Horsehay and Dawley through quiet woods and paths. | thesweetcheat | 21/05/2019 |
Solo up the usual route from the carpark while on the way home from WK. A hazy sunny morning with a bit of low cloud at the summit: 52 mins | Skip | 20/05/2019 |
Busy, windy day. 40 minutes to the top, 30 minutes down, 5300 steps, 3 miles, 86 stairs, 57 active mins | Jess B | 06/05/2019 |
A stroll up the nearest proper hill to test my legs and use my home made bandpass filter on 2m FM with my handheld radio for a SOTA activation. I packed up sharpish at the summit when thunder was heard. 2 couples were still ascending into a full storm as I went down in the teeming rain. | M0YDH | 24/04/2019 |
15 minutes to park!! Nice walk up tourist route. 50 minutes round trip then off to see my cousin and then Ellesmere Rangers Vs Sandbach. 2-0 to Ellesmere. A great day. | Longwojo | 06/04/2019 |

Followed tourist route to summit. Great views | Ramblingpaul | 07/12/2018 |
Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log:

I'm sure this trig would get 10/10 in daylight. Parked at N52° 40.790' W2° 32.188' and very surprised to see so many cars still parked as it was getting dark by now. Headed up the track which is very good and also surprised to see people joining us this late. Didn't take too long to get to the trigpoint, passing the mast on the way, sadly didn't bag the 3rd item (TP8532 - Warning Light Hill) , it was late and cold and I hadn't done enough research, so guess one day I might see the view. Looks like given the route we almost walked over the surface block! Also looks like the block sits at the summit (SJ 62836 08203). | thejackrustles | 23/11/2018 |
A bit murky but very mild. No views. | Play2End | 15/11/2018 |

1/7 today. Early morning ascent from normal car park and up path. Hill very busy but most folk went to the trig instead of the true summit near the bolt. I went to both summit and trig. | assynt_bob | 04/05/2018 |
Parked in car park at bottom of hill. Great mural of OS map of local area on wall of car park. Challenging constant cl8mb to peak. Amazing views. | Hippy77 | 31/03/2018 |

15 mile circular walk from The Plough Inn in Allscott with North West Social Hikers. The Wrekin and The Ercall. Beautiful sunny late summers day. | Lazylizzie | 12/08/2017 |
From the car park up the wide main path. We passed the halfway cottage where we had ice creams on the way down. The track was easy to follow to the top. We visited the high point and the trig/observation point. Views were far reaching across half England and Wales. The Berwyns looked close and the Malvern were clear. The weather was breezy and sunny. Cracking viewpoint and isabelle and Ameli enjoyed it as it was quite busy. We saw a few Great Tits Swallows and finches. It did take us 1hour 50 mins due to the stop on the way down for just under 3 miles. | isabelle | 04/08/2017 |
From the usual car park to the NE with Shaky & Smithy. Encountered a bizarre cross-section of humanity from serious(?) walkers to hoodies playing rap on their phones while smoking dubious substances to motorised buggies to prams... Great viewpoint though. Headed on SW where it was much quieter to col below Little Hill & then followed paths back round N side of the hill to return to the car park. Doubt that the hoodies made it to the top somehow. | NotReallyABagger | 24/07/2017 |
Warm day, nice walk up with the family. | RoguePulsar | 01/07/2017 |
I was with my family. It was a nice sunny day. | speedyclimber | 01/07/2017 |
From car park to NE. Very busy hill even midweek. Summit is not trig | NormanW | 14/06/2017 |
Lovely views from up here all around, and a nice white trigpoint. I also stood where there used to be a warning light. | Alancache | 25/05/2017 |
Took the family here for a walk, the kids with us managed it fine. The Wrekin is the choice of Hill for Brummies and ChaVs, as evidenced by a gang of youths cycling up the hill blaring music and a large family pushing pushchairs up! | tumpawumpa | 21/04/2017 |
10th top of the day, a pleasant stroll from the car park and my completion of the Telford UA, having never been up here before. Good views all round to distant hills. Popular with locals. Visited trig and HP. | PeterD | 18/04/2017 |

The usual walk up on this occasion, this is always so much busier than the other Shropshire hills | greboicus | 22/12/2016 |
From CP at SJ 634093 went up and around the cliff to top of St Lawrence's hill then over a fence and steeply down to the Shropshire way. Followed this around the quarry to the top of The Ercall. Went down to the road and along the B/W towards Maddock's hill went past the quarry and walked around the field edge to the top. Very easy. Followed quarry edge back to B/W which was ok at this time of year then over road and through woods on various tracks to the main path up to the Wrekin. Great area well worth wandering around for a few hours. | mart0797 | 18/12/2016 |
From quarry car park on a lovely,sunny morning,snow at summit,lovely views all around. | mad max | 18/11/2016 |

My SOTA Mountain Goat Activation [1000 points] with my family, Dad, Alastair, Allan, Matt, Gerald, Val and Sue. 4 more SOTA activators came to the summit to celebrate the occasion as a surprise! Just fabulous. We had an excellent buffet lunch in the Huntsman in Little Wenlock afterwards. | M0YDH | 29/10/2016 |
Afternoon stroll from the car park. Really good visibility from the top. We convinced ourselves we could make out the Snowdon Range and when the sun lit up the northern horizon we were convinced we could make out the sea. | Bernard | 27/10/2016 |
An afternoon stroll - all uphill of course!
Great views from the top. | SarahS | 27/10/2016 |
With Jo, top and trig plus surface block using footpaths from road to the northeast. Weather; clear on top, but mist in the valleys spoiled the view. | amblerbob | 22/10/2016 |

Started from Main Car park between Little Wenlock and Wellington - Main path (busy)- via Hell Gate & Heaven Gate to gain summit & trig. Know why its so busy now views extensive and amazing 360 degrees. | briandavies | 09/10/2016 |
From car park at foot the Wrekin. Followed main path to top. Excellent views over much of Shropshire. | muzza2 | 29/08/2016 |
Wrekin then Ercall, very different. Parked on The Wrekin Forest carpark. This was an early start and a lovely morning with good clear skies. This one takes me over the 400m. Its a steady climb to the top on wide well maintained paths. I was surprised how many solo walkers where there, seems that some of the locals climb The Wrekin daily. I wont forget the large Asian lady in a Sari jogging up past me and then down. This was a spiritual journey for me in part as I believe my ancestors lived at the Hill Fort at the top. I have taken my name Viroco from the tribal leader at the time if the Roman invasion of 65AD. | Viroco | 15/05/2016 |
Proud hill of Shropshire with unique vantage - seeing Irvington pike from here is a treat. | tumpawumpa | 01/05/2016 |

4th Crimbo eve walk. Another snowy one. Began from Golf Links Lane and walked the length of The Ercal, Then Lawrences Hill. Then up The Wrekin via a less known path which ascends from the rifle gange side. Over the top (looked like an Austrian scene) all the way to Little Hill. Included Maddocks on the way home. In all, 10 mile walk. Our local tump and we love it. Although I hate the wide track up - Reccommend finding an alternative quiet path to get the best from the Wrekin. | Steve W | 24/10/2010 |
