Parked at the Village Hall in Aston and Clun, which has a nice volunteer shop now. Followed the ascent as per Richard69, and would also not recommend in the winter as it had running water and mud for most of the way to the forest track. This was great and took us to the gate for the Fort. Lots of rain thereafter, but less muddy descent as we went NW to meet the Shropshire Way, also not well waymarked for the next couple of miles to the East. Interesting church at Hopesay but we'd had enough mud so we returned to Aston by road. With Nigel. Good coffees from the volunteer shop. Last of 30 Marilyns this year.gbeniston29/12/2023
Parked at the village hall/shop on SE side of Aston on Clun (by donation). Followed a very wet contouring path into the woods to the S and a FC 'waymarked' (not) track round to the E of Burrow. Entered the fort area via a gate (where the track begins to drop down) and followed a good path to the mini valley between the knoll hp and equally looking high point on the earthworks. Visited both to make sure. Descended by continuing SW on path down to forestry track and back. Very impressive earthworks overall. With Gillian.richard6907/11/2023
7.2 mile figure-of-8 walk from Hopesay village. We took Row south-west of the village to cross-paths then took the lesser used Row into Burrow wood (Hard to find the start of). We past the walkers welcome sign and ascended the forest track up to the east of summit of Burrow and dog-legged to the summit and back. (Views from top but not all round). We then followed the track to the Row, steeply up through Beeches Wood and followed the Shropshire Way back to Hopesay. From here we followed the minor road up by Fish Farm short-cutting up permissive path to Wart Hill (views in one direction from top) then headed back over Hopesay Hill down to village. 486m ascent. We saw nobody in mixed sunny/cloudy/showery condtions. Pleasant views throughout. Later that day we bagged Sunnyhill, High Vinnalls and Bringewood.DanTrig19/08/2023

Parked at new village hall in Aston on Clun. Followed Row up to forest then took east track round forest to 384830. Into fort and climbed both tops. First English inversion, superb views.iangalbraith28/11/2022
From Hopesay 7/7 Marilyns completing Section 38aLongwojo19/08/2022
From Hopesay, intended to take short cut from Shropshire Way path as others but intercepted (twice) by farmer who said he had closed the permissive path and we directed us to take a circuitous route anticlockwise around hill, descend into woodland then reascend. Tripled the length of walk. Good earthworks and views, visited both high points.Nick Canute16/08/2022
Parked near a church went up a road into a field then into another field which went up in a woody area, there was a fence we climbed over onto a path which lead to the summit. With whole family. Except Mum who made it halfway then went back to the car.speedyclimber27/07/2022
Parked in Hopesay then via Shropshire Way then cut S using gate to N of summit, follow tracks around to E side over another gate then direct across fort to the top. Carla retreated to the car halfway up. Kids made it to the top. Interesting large earthworks. 194m ascent.RoguePulsar27/07/2022
From Hopesay church, followed Shropshire Way then diagonally up crop field to use a Northern edge gateway into the woods and track curving round to a further gate up to Fort. Hot day, easy ish walk.nickywood109/07/2022
Even in Shropshire terms this is a special hill. Part of a round taking in Oaker,Burrow,Basford Bank and Hopesay Hill.greboicus30/04/2022

Parked near Hopesay church and after asking advice of local resident ‘followed nose’ along Shropshire way and up. Next time I feel lay-by on B4368 to sw and follow track to gate into fort will be longer yet more enjoyable. Great views and iron age historic atmosphere .Hippy7717/08/2021
Parked by Hopesay St Mary Church and took the footpath up to the summit, a pleasant stroll and the fort at the summit very much visible with the rings of fortifications rising from the ground. Views are great all round with trees giving way as you get to the summit.jamiequackers07/08/2021

30K loop from Craven Arms rail station to 3 Marilyns - this was the last after View Edge so ascended from Aston on Clun after a bit of road running. Due to felling to S of summit ascended pastures to E from N-S Bridleway and descended oalso that way - to Hopesay.davechaffey23/06/2021
A case for not over-planning route on map. From Hopesay follow Shropshire Way from church up track through one field a short track and up another field. SW goes downhill N,you follow field edge to S (W side), round corner to gate on W edge. Join track, uphill to left, till you reach 5-bar gate to Fort. Follow path to summit knolls. Not sure why apparently lower knoll on left(SE) is accredited as summit rather than the one on the right (NW). Sighting of horizon both ways suggested NW knoll to be higher, but GPS tracking data was not definitive - best to climb both knolls until definitively resolved (Note: GPS records listed here have not resolved which is highest)henryfm01/06/2021
Parking at Kempton 'phone box SO360830. E up the Shropshire Way to junction with end of track at SO382836, then S along grassy extension of track, gate and quick dog leg into field at SO382835 - from here a wooden hurdle can be seen, mid-fence, at the top of the pasture; over this then up grass tracks within the woods.Isbjorn13/04/2021
Tried a direct ascent via wet bracken - not a good idea. Found an easy track back down.prwild23/08/2020

Parked at St Mary's Church and followed track to fields and then on to woodland & summit. Enjoyed following the fort perimeter all the way around afterwards. Lovely family adventure!Gerry the Ranger21/06/2020
Parked at Hopesay Church. Up path round church and to fort at top. Went to various points to make sure I'd got proper top. Down a different steep field back to roadketzster16/06/2020
Misty morning really added quite a mystical atmosphere to this hilltop with all the ancient earthworks.Alex C22/01/2020
Parked in the car park of the community shop and village hall on the B4369 (GR394814) at Aston on Clun. Walked down the road and picked up the public right of way at GR392818 down what was in parts a very muddy and wet Lane. At the Cross paths at the end went straight ahead on the public footpath which leads up a minor valley in between the felled trees to the ridge. Followed the forest track here to the right until it bends around in the fort in the NE corner, past the trees until there was an easy crossing point in the fence and lots of minor tracks leading up into the fort. Once at the highest point followed a path continuing anticlockwise around the outside edge of the fort to a gate. This lead to a path through the woods down to meet the track. Followed this down until met a track that completed the loop to meet the upward route. Then came down the ascent route (7km round trip took me about 1hr 45mins)JulieB11/01/2020
From Aston on Clun village hall; up road towards Hopesay. L up track with horrendously wet section just before entering wood, R at cross tracks and through gate to fort. What a little gem! Return on Shropshire Way to Hopesay and field path to A on C.MichaelF04/11/2019
Final and finest top of the day after Hopesay and Wart Hill. A nice stop off at Hopesay church on a hot day before the walk up here to see what turned out to be one of the best hillforts of the year. This really is a cracker, really fine earthworks and wonderful views of the Shropshire Hills. Was sorry to leave for the walk back to Craven Arms.thesweetcheat21/09/2019

Craven Arms - Callow Hill - Norton Camp - View Edge - Oaker Wood - Burrow - Craven Arms.Mark Jackson27/07/2019
3/4 Village Hall parking, but more nearer the church. Followed track past the new house being developed, may hamper access slightly in future. Track has a very boggy 50m section before it heads up into the woods. Took the grassy track from the junction, then the thin path to the impressive hillfort.N.Morters11/07/2019
from Aston on Clun. Ancient fort is enormous.IanHHill02/06/2019
After Oaker Wood. Low cloud, but livestock, pheasants, squirrels, deer and buzzards kept it interesting. back to Aston village hall.KC05/10/2018
With Sue, parked at the village hall, Aston on Clun. Followed waymarked footpaths to the iron age fort remains at summit. Return SW through woods to meet same path up.Frank21/09/2018
Shropshire Way from behind Hopesay church - saw designated way over BWF onto forest track - I went wrong way at first but if you follow left to gate there is track through this to top. Lovely fort but not promoted and seemed unloved to me. Shame.Mark Sims14/09/2018
From Aston on Clun with C. Oaker Wood first. Up forest track and then path to gate and on to hill fort. Went to both mounds but east higher. Good hill.PeterD25/08/2018
4/7 Marilyn day. From Hopesay, along the Shropshire Way past Bank Wood and then cut straight up to the woodland along the track it edge to the interesting old hill fort. A round trip of 3.5km in 50 minutes. (S)silveracorn_alan09/08/2018

Free parking at the village hall, Aston on Clun. Footpaths all the way to the summit. Solo.Dangerous Dave07/08/2018
Straight up from Hopesay using concessionary footpath described by ger (thank you!). Lovely on top, fabulous views and really clear hill fortifications. Returned via Grist House and over Hopesay HillClive G24/06/2018
5/7 today. Parked in Hopesay near phone box, then walked up past church and into the fields and up into wooded area. The extent of the fort is large and it is no longer clear what ground is natural and what is long ago man-made. Bagged both potential high points. Myrddyn Phillips joined me for this hill but he did not use his trimble here as he had measured the various potential high points recently - I await his blog for the results.assynt_bob04/05/2018
Parked near Hopesay church. There is a useful permissive path starting @ SO 38260 83645. Quite a nice summit. A few trees dotted about, but there are still summit views.ger30/04/2018
3 of 8 after spending the night in the car at the kangaroo inn pub I was up bright and early to bag oaker wood, Bates barn hill, burrow, short wood, lynchgate hill, Basford bank, wart hill and hopesay hill. 11.7 miles in 5 hours and it didn’t stop raining all day. Marilyn no. 33The-Z-Man17/04/2018
From Hopesay church. Skirted around the lower wood, then up field. There is a place to climb the fence near an upside down bench. Then left up track and then right into lightly bracken covered area. Visited two possible high points in the fort. Lovely spot with glorious autumnal views. Surprised to meet two separate people on the top. Very dusky by now so had to skip the other Tump I originally planned.Herbert Anchovy17/11/2017

A lovely morning for a stroll up from Hopesay. Since the main footpath has been ploughed up, who can argue with taking the short cut to the bench and the stile? Impressive hill fort and wonderful views.Gill12/10/2017
