The summit appears to be further from the centre of the earth than any other place in Britain. This is not a joke.Pete Rblank
Parked SX 60091 91142 at end of driveable road. SIMMS on Dartmoor: Hangingstone Hill > Cut Hill > High Willhays. Progress on tracks much faster than off them. Boggy and rough ground everywhere.Peter_W_Mitchell 24/08/2023
From Fernworthy reservoir over Sittaford Tor then tried to pick way across, boggy and trackless in places, but small cairn easy enough to find. Onto Black Hill and Hangingstone Hill to complete the English SiMMs.PeterD17/08/2023
Revisit for OS trig (wooden peg!). Tussocks/animal tracks from Sittaford Tor. More of same N to Black HillRHW18/04/2022
From Okehampton - Belstone Tor, East Mill Tor, Steeperton Tor, Hound Tor, Hangingstone Hill, Black Hill, Cut Hill, Brown's House Top, Higher White Tor and Longaford Tor. Camped near the top of Longaford Tor before descending to Princetown from where I added South Hessary Tor while waiting for the bus. 41.5km, much of it boggy, tussocky, pathless toil in unrelenting rain and wind. Highlight was getting the tent up, changing into dry clothes and crawling into my sleeping bag.Herbert Anchovy07/08/2021
A walk into the wild centre of North Dartmoor from Fernworthy Reservoir, through the forest and out to the ruin of Teignhead Head Farm. Then across the wet tussocky moors visiting Hangingstone Hill, Black Hill, Cut Hill and via path by boundary posts to Sittaford Tor. Extremely tough going in many places underfoot – wet and tussocky. 19km with 480m ascent in 5 hours. Solo.silveracorn_alan01/08/2021

One way from Postbridge to Cudliptown, from Hangingstone Hill via Black Hill. Impressive bleached cow bones in the vicinityagentmancuso01/07/2021
Parked at the Two Bridges car park and used the ROW through Beardown farm to get within a short distance of Beardown Tor, continued over Devils Tor to reach Cut hill, then over Flat Tor and the 539 point to reach Higher White Tor. Twelve mile in six hours.WAYNE ROWLETT29/08/2020

Solo 14 miles round from Postbridge of Browns House Top, Cut Hill, Black Hill, Sittaford Tor, White Ridge and Assycombe Hill. Perfect weather and a 6.30am start. Just under six hours.clivevilla23/06/2020
2-day route from Belstone, with outstanding bright conditions on day 1. Cosdon Hill, Hound Tor, Steeperton Tor, Hangingstone Hill (also visiting Whitehorse Hill summit), crossing to Cut Hill, then Black Hill(camping by the top). Return via Belstone Tor (climbing all the tops in the summit area).RobertP30/12/2019
Round of Hangingstone Hill, Cut Hill, High Willhays and Yes Tor from parking at East Okement Farm. Torrential rain. Solo round in fell running gear but not possible to run on much due to difficulty of terrain (uneven clumps of grass). Several water crossings. Deep mud in parts. 14 miles total in 4hrs 15min.axoree19/12/2019
From Black Hill. Surprisingly good going, albeit in relatively dry conditions. Heading back over the W flank of Black Hill, I caught site of the stone letterbox and diminutive Cranmere Pool, having missed both on the way out. Delighted to have finally visited the original Dartmoor letterbox. On to East Mil Tor.Nick Down114/07/2019
From Postbridge then on to Hangingstone Hill. Hard work through rough tussocks even in dry conditions.Eddie10/07/2019
From Brown's House Top, via Flat Tor. A hard, mainly pathless, slog to the summit. Onwards to Beardown Tors. Solo.Man of Kernow106/05/2019

With Jenx and Bryher up Higher White Tor from Two Bridges. Heading for Cut Hill via a long drag through pathless terrain albeit half dry. Then back via Beardown Tors to the pub. Bright, sunny and clear. 21.4 km outing. Cooling Easterly breeze.nordicstar01/04/2019
A long trek over rather featureless terrain. Thankfully the weather was good!jenx01/04/2019
Lovely walk back along the valley. Why oh why did we not go up that way!! Our penultimate English Simm.softsquare28/09/2018
The objective of today's exercise. From Fernworthy Forest, good parking at SX 6607 8367. Picked up Assycombe Hill and White Ridge first, then on to Black Hill and Sittaford Tor before returning. 19km, thankfully very dry underfoot, but very hot. Interesting OS trig here - a piece of wood!jonglew27/06/2018
From Postbridge. Found tracks most of the way over Broad Down, Flat Tor and the peat pass.Moorponder23/06/2018
Climbed in glorious conditions as part of a 26.8 Km circuit of all Dartmoor 600m hills, starting from Row Tor car park. Blue skies, hot sun, infinite visibility. Fast track heading south to Hangingstone, peat bog to Whitehorse, then very tiring high tussock grass over the side of Black Hill and up to Cut Hill. On return leg, high tussock grass to Dinger, then easy walking to High Willhays, Yes, and return to Row Tor. A fabulous solo walk.Dartmoorman22/06/2018
From Postbridge out over Broad Down and Flat Tor. Had enough wet ground on the way out so returned down by Dart River cutting back to outbound route below Broad Down. That's the last English Simm to go with the Welsh ones.SS14/04/2018
Remote, wild feeling summit experienced in both bright sun and biting sleet within a short space of time. Boggy rough going approach from the South vi Philpott's cutting- amazingly we found the small stone markers posts at either end. Very likely to be a reascent, but not previously entered.Denise 25/11/2017
...and many times before. One of 'Dartmoor's best' with feeling of isolation, wilderness and expansive views. From Two Bridges, easy at first but then rough going over wet moorland before deliverance in the form of Phillpotts peat pass leading up the the high point hag. Sunshine and fleeting snow showers, mod. W wind. Small cairn on W edge of summit hag, E edge is fractionally higher. From the car park at Postbridge. Roundy Park, over Broad Down following a quad track to approx 610815 then picking up the MOD poles and up the NW passage. Including Hangingstone Hill and a return via Sittaford Tor the walk took five and a half hours and covered thirteen and a quarter miles. However, it was very dry. Solo.bolton17/10/2015

Easy parking at Postbridge visitor centre. Paths and tracks and bits and pieces. Was very dry so could almost take a straight line. North West Passage is mainly eroded easier to walk above the edges. Trudge.destaylor12/06/2015
Final UK Simm.IainT07/06/2015
Did this from Hangingstone Hill via Black Hill – Very tough going! On return to Hangingstone, skirted Black Hill on E. side & then ENE up faint path to summit of Hangingstone. Otherwise, few paths & rough ground. Return journey took 2½ hours. (S)gerrybowes14/03/2015

My last Sub Hewitt in England (per AD) and a completion of the little yellow book that has been on my shelf for a very long time. OS bolt on top and a very long trudge up from Postbridge. Strong NW wind in my face all the way up.arranc23/03/2014
