Solo. Parked for free at the Wiston Estate Car Park on the South Downs Way just off the southbound A24. Did a clockwise 10 mile circular walk taking in the Ring first, then going to Cissbury Ring via the Monarch's Way LDP. Cold and overcast. mostly dry underfoot - some mud on the last stretch back from Cissbury Ring. Delightful ponies on Cissbury Ring, but tried to eat my kit and me! But harmless. Encountered some larger but well-mannered horses on the final stretch. | gbeniston | 17/01/2024 |

Walked from Steyning to Findon on South Downs Way. Summit somewhere in the trees. | Buteobuteo | 22/03/2022 |
Parked up just off Washington Bostal and walked up, a decent sized car park and chalk underfoot to the summit - also a lot smoother than the walk from the signposted Chanctonbury Ring car park! Few others around and clear views right across the Downs to the sea and the wind turbines clealy visible. | jamiequackers | 22/12/2021 |
From Chanctonbury Road car park | prwild | 25/10/2021 |
Circular walk with Anne and Matt from the Frankland Arms in Washington. 2 hrs | CXB | 15/10/2021 |
Started at small car park on A24 grid reference 122 120.
Easy track up walking with the experienced Peter Bowles on his second trip. We missed the trig point near the dew pond being renovated. We walk round the ring then found the trig on the way back hidden in some gorse. | alanderry1963 | 18/09/2021 |
From the car park at 146124 along bridle way to west then bridleway directly to summit. Did a circuit of the ring, along to trig, then down bridleway towards North Farm, then Pest House, up bridelway along NW side of forest to meet South Downs way path on ridge. Straight over and down bridletrack directly back to car. Pleasant 6 mile circuit, easy walking. | JulieB | 10/09/2021 |
From free car park near Great Barn Farm. West along bridleway then steeply up heading south east directly to summit on another bridleway. | KeithByTheC | 10/09/2021 |
Parked at tiny car park. Very strange smell around the bottom that lingered for a while. Up paths. Quite crowded. Went to main top in trees and along to trig point | ketzster | 31/03/2021 |
Parked in small cp at TQ122120, accessed off the southbound lane of the A24. Steady uphill walk along wide path, but beware of reckless mountain bikers descending far too quickly. At first fork, take left fork then continue to gate. An interesting dewpond is on the left, from where the trig point can be seen one hundred meters further on after passing through gate. The trig at GR 134120 is 238m, 2m lower than the high point 500m further on on the ring. Return by reverse route. | Dartmoorman | 18/10/2020 |
Had a great night bivvying out. Great starry sky, not much wind and really mild. On the move westward again at 4.30, and one my very best ever days hiking, right past Petersfield. | Alex C | 21/09/2020 |

3.3 mile circular from Chanctonbury Ring picnic are and car park, up good track through woods onto ridge then followed South Downs Way, walked around the ring itself then visited trig pillar, descended on path between trig and summit and followed path back to car park. Quite a few people about on this windy/sunny day with great views; you could easily see the folly on Leith Hill. Last hill of the day, earlier bagged Wilmington Hill, Mount Caburn, Cliffe Hill and Wolstonbury Hill. | DanTrig | 05/07/2020 |
With: hb; Walk from Kithurst Hill car park including several ascents of scarp slope to Chanctonbury Ring, then returned by South Downs Way. | Ian Baines | 20/05/2020 |
Quite a cool day. Parked in Washington and went up the steep path from Locks Farm. Came down the less steep, Wiston Bostal route, back via Owlscroft Barn. All on marked public footpaths. | sconnolly01 | 17/05/2020 |
Bagged this one with my wife as part of 10 mile circular route from Washington. We think there may be a higher point inside the ring of trees at TQ 13924 12067 | psburgess | 15/05/2020 |
Parked in car park at bottom of hill, took the steep route through woods! Would recommend the less steep round route, great views at top and nice spot in woods for picnic out of rain. | Hippy77 | 18/02/2020 |
From the car park to the N via the Wiston Bostal track. visited the HP & the trig, returned via the bridleway past Owlscroft Barn. Overcast & low cloud. | DanMaisieBex | 05/01/2020 |

Circular walk from Cissbury Ring car park to Cissbury Ring and Chanctonbury hill tops and trigs. Lovely afternoon walk with Heather. Beautiful view of Chanctonbury Hill top when approached from Cissbury Ring. | mazz | 12/05/2019 |
With Val. From car park to the west. Good weather. An easy walk. | mike.hoult | 19/03/2019 |
As others - from car park to north. | Crib Goch | 15/03/2019 |
From carpark by Great Barn Farm, where you start with a fine view of Chantonbury Ring, walk south and follow track which is not a public right of way to join BW and mount east flank of the hill. This is the better way up as slippery exposed chalk makes for a perilous decent. Early on look about for the beech tree standing on a quarry edge with vast amount of exposed roots. Join the South Downs Way running west along the top of the scarp, rising to gain an even finer view of the ring. Take care to ask the guardians politely for permission to enter the ring as this is a renown spooky place with all sorts of goings on. The high point lies within and less interesting than the edge where the remaining mature trees still grow. It is worth heading on to the trig point where all round views are gained, including another of the ring. Decend by the BW in between, and complete your clockwise circuit by the rather sticky path in the lower woods. A nice 5Km walk, today enjoyed with Tiarnán. | Pete West | 09/03/2019 |
From parking near Great Barn Farm. Along the muddy track to the West then steeply up through wood, over bwf and on to summit. Also visited trig and descended by path to the East of it. | NormanW | 14/02/2019 |
A Christmas Day walk. Parked in car park by Great Barn Farm. Followed the track in to the woods then onto the bridleway to the South Downs Way. Only one car in the car park when we arrived however whilst we were out lots of other people appeared ; no doubt walking off some Xmas excess. Good views out to the wind farm and the downs. | Buck | 25/12/2018 |
OS mapped car park at TQ 120119 does not exist and nowhere else suitable to park at W end, so drove around to N side to park near Great Barn Farm, TQ 145123 - the entrance to the car park here 'cuts back' acutely and is difficult to see until one comes back down the lane. Then RoWs W, SE, then South Downs Way. | Isbjorn | 07/11/2018 |
Walked up from Findon. Very nice hill with views of N and S Downs and new Wind Farm out to sea. The centre of the Ring seemed higher to me than the w. edge. | IanHHill | 01/10/2018 |

A pleasant evening stroll from the SDW car park at Washington. Nice views, nice sheep, nice wild flowers. Not clear where the summit is, but I wandered round all the highest looking bits just to make sure. | Gill | 04/07/2017 |
From car park to W, followed South Downs Way to trig, then to W edge of ring and high ground in the centre. | Tony J | 29/05/2017 |

From car park to the north east. Short track then very steep slope straight up to ridgeline then along to the fort ring. Zigzagged to find a high point. Lovely summit 6/8 Marilyn today | N.Morters | 13/04/2017 |

Part of a cycle ride to Amberley. | hillbagger91 | 10/02/2017 |
Started from Chanctonbury car park & picnic site (TQ 14589 12479)as summit nearby kept trainers on which I subsequently regretted on very steep chalky stone, muddy ascent covered in wet Autumn leaves. Visited summit on SW corner of iron age fort rampart then on to trig point 500m west. Returned to summit and decided to walk round northern rampart in case higher point found. Soon became obvious was lower and in fact ground to right within fort was higher, possibly higher than obviously man made (but ancient rampart)so headed in to fog for that and found high ground in middle of large clump of brambles (TQ 13941 12073) apparently it is the same height. Spookily heard sound of metal clanging which I jokingly passed off to myself as an echo from the past but subsequently heard mention of other strange goings on. | mntainman | 18/12/2016 |
From just outside the height-barriered car park to the west. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/chanctonbury-ring-ditchling-beacon-and.html | Gayle | 04/11/2016 |
Parked in the little car park at the foot of the scarp. Followed a bridle way going west through the woods to find a footpath climbing steeply through the trees. Came out between the trig point and Chactonbury Ring. Visited both. No ghosts around. | ajd58 | 20/10/2016 |

Camped in the site just north of the village which was expensive but we appreciated the quiet after the previous night. | mindlessflogger | 24/08/2014 |
One of many visits with many different companions. Overall view is make a good walk of it, include Cissbury Ring which is a superb hill-fort summit. Good running terrain, too, I've added ascents by going via Botolphs and Findon. Such routes around 10 miles of fast going. | pwheeler | 23/08/2014 |
