Carnedd Das Eithin > Ffordd Gefn (Bryn Gwyn) from GR: SJ 05190 25787. Route between the two summits via gate at SJ 04739 24086 and then overgrown L shaped ride on map. | ronaldo333 | 04/02/2024 |
Carnedd Das Eithin > Ffordd Gefn (Bryn Gwyn) from GR: SJ 05190 25787. | Hippster | 04/02/2024 |
From Hirnant chapel (parking)via minor road and RoW NW to forest out and back to Cyrniau y Llyn, then Bryn Gwyn, E along bridleway to Bwlch y Main then forestry track to its end at 057241. From here a forestry track not on the 25k map leads close to the summit of Carnedd Das Eithin. ATV track SE to gate then sheep tracks lead to Craig Y Llan and the RoW to Hirnant. | Moorponder | 20/06/2023 |
Parked in Llangynog for a 4 Dewey walk. Roughly followed Wayne's good route on RoW up alongside Nant Sebon to the sheepfolds, then using the small tracks on west slope of Moel Crynddyn and onto Craig Rhiwarth. Then along the Y Clogydd ridge to Glan-hafon, high point + trig. Returned down the bridleway to Llangynog for lunch. In the afternoon headed up the RoW alongside the now closed Revolution Bike Park, then followed the forest road to the top of Carnedd Das Eithin. Not wanting to go all the way back to the cross roads, I risked the narrow strip of dense woodland. So went to the corner at SJ 0474 3204, where there is even a gateway into the what is marked as a ride. In reality it is an avenue of young deciduous trees, with sufficient space to squeeze through. My gamble paid off, and I was on my way up to Ffordd Gefn without too much difficulty. Access via ride at bend in fence. A windy day with heavy showers but beautiful rainbows as well. 22km with 1600m ascent taking me | silveracorn_alan | 10/04/2023 |
Parked by Hirnant church. Up via Ty croes and Bwlch Sych. Across to Carnedd Das Eithin afterward and back down to Hirnant | PeteF | 18/02/2023 |

Parked in the main car park in Llangynog and used the ROW through Revolution bike park to the end of the track and a turning circle at 05738 24063, turning right and up hill to reach the summit of Carnedd Das Eithin. Retraced my steps to 05422 24697 and turned left to follow ROW to the trees hiding the Ffordd Gefn summit, retracing my steps back to the start. Six and three quarter mile in Three hours. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 29/10/2022 |

Underwhelming and unrewarding high point after a difficult approach from St Illog's church/community centre, Hirnant. | summitsup | 25/07/2021 |
Parked at public car park in Llangynog. South up Revolution bike access to a gate and then west on a reasonable path. Barbed fence to get over and summit found with coloured tapes.
With Degsy. headed back to the gate and then Carnedd Das Eithin. | bolton | 29/04/2021 |
From Llangynog for a round of Ffordd Gefn (accessed via firebreak to E, starts by small bend in fence) and Carnedd Das Eithin via Bwlch y Main. | PGCE | 03/02/2021 |
From Llangynog for a round of Ffordd Gefn,	Carnedd Das Eithin, Craig Rhiwarth and Glan-hafon. | rhalstead | 12/09/2020 |
Approach from carnedd das Eithen not recommended due to dense strip of forest- mapped firebreaks non existent. We found it marginally easier to cross at SJ 044238- SW corner of reedy open area, due W of summit- more mountain ash, less conifer. Summit accessible from firebreak to E, N of path, marked by hanging orange twine. | Denise | 05/08/2020 |
Hard going from Carnedd Das Eithin, we found the band of forest in the intervening valley easiest to negotiate at SJ04465,23902 where trees are predominantly Willow. Final push to summit twine best started from SJ03405,24092. No views. | RichardM | 05/08/2020 |
From Carnedd Das Eithin descended to the narrow strip of woodland between that hill and Ffordd Gefn. This was horrendous to cross and a pair of garden shears came in very handy. The summit of Ffordd Gefn is accessible from the firebreak marked on the map but takes some careful observation to find. It is a little overgrown, so shears came in useful. The summit is marked by the orange rope hanging from a tree. In descent, followed the path of Ffordd Gefn and then descended overgrown paths to Llangynog. With JT. | Sprog | 11/07/2020 |

Did Carnedd das Ethin first and then dropped down to the strip of forest. Was lured in by a gate at SJ047241 but there was no obvious path and it was a struggle to get through the young trees. Same with summit where the forest is getting very dense. The photo does it justice ;-) | chriswatson | 24/11/2018 |
Parked at SJ 05903 23490 and followed marktrengrove's route up Carnedd Das Eithin before continuing across to Ffordd Gefn (tricky bit getting through the narrow strip of woodland in the valley bottom), Ffridd Fach and Croes y Forwyn. Back through the forest paths and road. 8 miles - 3 1/2 hours. The stile is missing for Fford Gefn but marktrengrove's route is still doable despite regrowth. The orange baler twine is still at the summit. | clivevilla | 03/10/2018 |

Carnedd Das Eithin and Ffordd Gefn from Cwm Hirnant (Ty-brith). Followed track through forestry and then left main track using rough tracks and rough clear felled terrain to reach good summit area. Returned back to main track and followed through forestry to emerge on ENE ridge of Fford Gefn. Followed Mark Trengove's route description to summit of Fford Gefn. Someone has hung some orange baler twine and red ribbon at the summit to make it easier to spot. Very grateful for the cleared way to the summit area! Return along main track used for ascent. | RobertP | 04/09/2016 |
Parked in the Revolution Bike Park (SJ 05183 25755) and took various tracks up to the gate at the bwlch - best to keep to the RoW when bikers around. Then track west to stile at forest edge (SJ 04770 24548) and west along the ridge, over another stile. Then along southern edge of the forest to a firebreak at SJ 03409 24043. New barbed fence to scale to access the firebreak. Then firebreak easily north for 50m to a path cut west through the trees at SJ 03405 24088. Then easily to the summit in a gap cut in the undergrowth. Returned by outward route. Whoever took a chainsaw to cut a way to the summit deserves a medal, turning a tricky forest bash to a very easy one. Wild and very windy, but remained dry. Evening walk. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 12/08/2016 |
Car park in Llangynog 053262 - Minor road to Bike Park - ROW up east side of forest to gates at 054247 - Through gate & then W. along ROW - Over BW fence & headed N. along fire break - After about 50m turned left along recently created pathway through conifers to summit marked by red ribbon. On return, bagged Carnedd Das Eithin. (S) | gerrybowes | 23/06/2016 |
Short thrash to summit GR10 among bushy conifers. A fitting spot for my Dewey completion. | mae | 04/05/2016 |
From 3426. Wish I had visited when Anton did. Trees now about as bad as it gets. Was only 28 metres from fire break. But trees so closely packed that their branches cross each other. Couldn't even see the ground when reached the summit. Compass vital - or you may never get out. Would advise waiting a fair few years for a visit until they have grown taller and the lower branches have no leaves. Excellent track back to mountain bike centre. | destaylor | 06/03/2015 |
From Llangynog up the track to the mountain bike start then along ROW and out and back to Carnedd Das Eithin followed by a tree bash to Fford Gefn. The bit from here to Cyrniau y Llyn is a real trudge but the descent down the valley is quite pleasant. | SS | 06/12/2014 |
A tough summit to find, lots of established trees and barbed wire to discourage us. | JohnStoneham | 13/11/2013 |
from Ty brith, Hirnant as a loop along to Cyrniau then on to ffordd gefn, fridd fach & croes y forwyn.
couldnt see the wood for the trees. | stig_nest | 08/08/2013 |
Interesting puzzle how best to get up on the 'ridge'. Not quite as interesting figuring between which row of trees which particular pile of sphagnum moss is the summit. I would say it is off the forest track though. | Martin R | 04/01/2013 |
Did second visit whilst passing for picture, from south side over new fencing and up fire break to find way into trees. | Anton | 18/10/2008 |
start~ Hirnant 048226 Climbed up through Blaen Hirnant on a RoW to just west of Ffordd Gefn summit then followed summit ridge east to Fawnog, then Carnedd Das Eithin. Return on RoW through felled forest to Clochnant. Weather warm, strong winds and heavy r | steve hudson | 21/01/2008 |
Dewey bagging. [1] From 066263 clockwise; Craig Rhiwarth, Glan-hafon. [2] From 033254 anticlockwise; Cyrniau y Llyn, Ffordd Gefn, Carnedd Das Eithin. | RHW | 06/12/1997 |
Went through contour ring. Also on 06/01/2016 I went from carpark on B4391 at Penybontfawr at SJ 08825 24544. Did a round of hills. Up from Cwm Hirnant. Nasty trees at the top. Then east and NE to Cyrniau. | Alan Moore | 20/04/1980 |
