Rhiwaedog-uwch-afon from GR: SH 95083 31130.

Re start: there is a No Parking sign at the triangle entrance to Maesfallen Farm but a lay by area 400m North on the road. Attack point from gate at SH 93887 31153, the tree down across the PROW footpath push through left of it, going right past the roots is a no no. There is still a footpath sign at the junction with the track. It's just a matter of bashing through the trees that now fully cover this track. Tough last 150m to the summit. | ronaldo333 | 13/01/2024 |

Moel Cae-howel and Rhiwaedog-uwch-afon from Bala. | rhalstead | 23/12/2023 |
Parked at the picnic site. Followed the forest roads up to the public footpath sign at the base of the so called track to the top. Fought my way up along the Christmas tree and bramble infested track to the small clearing at the top of Rhiwaedog-uwch-afon. Retraced steps and into the sheep pasture. Descended amongst the wet and bedraggled sheep and lambs to the forest road and back to the car. Drove up to Bwlch Y Fenni. Fought my way through the wind and rain, using the mown strips of heather to ease the passage to the rather dreary top of Moel Cae-howel, and quickly back to the car to escape the rain. 11km and 460m ascent for both Deweys taking me 3h 90m in the wind + rain. | silveracorn_alan | 11/04/2023 |
Tracks shown on OS Map leading to summit from 94033270 and 94593228 don't exist anymore. Having circumnavigated the hill entirely looking for a way up my suggested route is: Park at picnic site 95733270. Forest tracks to 94293103. ROW across sheep pasture to 93893115. Follow ROW into spruce thicket, then left at footpath signpost up overgrown traces of track to summit. Bring some loppers! | PeteF | 26/02/2023 |
Left the car where the minor road runs out to the West at 92560 30935, and followed the forest road to the beginning of a fire break at 93559 31372 West of the summit, this was not a great approach as this area is now being felled and only leads to more trees but I did make it through only to find a Heather clad summit, not my favorite Dewey, Four and half mile taking One and three quarter hours. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 01/10/2022 |
Followed the route suggested by Rob50. The forest from the cross roads at 946.323 has now been felled for about 500m, deep ruts but passable. The track from 941.328 is overgrown. Some fallen trees but we managed to pass through the mature trees south of the track. From the marker post at 940.312 there is a bit of a line visible; it is a fight - but we made it. Coming back we left the overgrown track at 941.313 and headed straight down through the trees to meet the better track. | Moorponder | 30/06/2022 |
After reading other logs thought i'd try from NE. Parked picnic area 957 327 and used forestry roads/fp to crossroads showing on map at 946 323.The track from there is no longer a forestry road, whilst overgrown easy to follow. A couple of obstacles (fallen trees) can either climb over, duck or crawl under(don't go off track, takes forever I tried). FP sign is still at the junction. Then the overgrown path to the top. | Rob50 | 18/11/2021 |
will always be possible but be prepared, preferable good weather and old kit for trash bashing not like me torrential rain and new GTX small clearing is getting smaller also visit old foundations of fire tower park cattle grid south of maesafallen helpful farmer | underhill | 05/08/2021 |
Still Possible! Parked by the cattle grid at SH94983 30245, through Maesafallen farm and up to the field corner and stile at SH 9390 3114 on good tracks and paths. Followed a path N.E. to SH 9396 3118 where there is a large tree down blocking the path. Tried going through the larch forest to the right, but there is no way through. So keep to the left edge of the track and push through young conifers for 5m following an old footpath. That is the worst bit over, an obvious (and overgrown) footpath continues N.E. until a path junction at SH 9402 3122 where there is even a footpath sign. Turn left following another overgrown footpath until you get to the summit, which is a slightly raised area of heather. | Derek_Snaith | 08/06/2021 |
Parked at ruin at 952312. Then via Maesafallen, as others. Pleased I had winter clothing as a protection against the pine needles. | PGCE | 04/02/2021 |
Still Possible! | softsquare | 08/09/2020 |
Parking for 1 on road to SE by entrance to Maesafallen. Official RoW round back of Maesafallen cant be found but track in front of house is much easier anyway. Track in forest is now almost invisible/impenetrable. A year from now you'll need branch loppers. Not sure if you would get through from north. Theres a handy signpost at the junction near the top. | ijpowell | 11/07/2019 |

This hill will soon be un-reachable due to growth of conifer plantation. | Sleepwa1ker | 01/06/2019 |
Did this today from SH 93885 31149. Absolute nightmare - overgrown and fallen trees. It will soon become impossible from this side. | Ianto&Sue | 13/05/2019 |
Parked by the cattle grid as others. Followed gerrybowes route which is good although, after entering the forest, the paths are getting overgrown and difficult in parts. | clivevilla | 07/01/2019 |

Good parking south of the cattle grid at 949303. through Maesafallan farm and up the hill to the stile at 938311. From there it is a bit rough going with fallen tress and generally overgrown. Solo. | bolton | 06/09/2017 |
Maes maillion approach. Followed track up to point it changes to a forest ride..only its a full on track now. Left track to west of summit which has very recently been cleared. | stig_nest | 18/06/2016 |
Parked by the cattle grid at SH94983 30245 (Space for 3 or 4 cars) - North along road & then track to Maesafallon - Continued along track & then up sheep pasture to stile in top corner of field at 938912 - NE along path & then NW up old forest track to unmarked summit which lies about 10m north of track & about 30m south of Fire Tower remains. (S) | gerrybowes | 08/05/2016 |
From picnic area up forestry tracks until hit devastated area mentioned by marktrengrove. Bushwhacked way to north of track (uphill side) and came up at old fire tower base. Wandered over to Bryn Ronwydd before dropping back down to valley using tracks and fields. | SS | 20/03/2016 |
Parked fairly easily to the east on the road where the track to the farm leaves. Pretty straight forward. | destaylor | 17/10/2013 |
The paths through the trees from Is-afon (7568) are quite spaceous and are easy to follow. | JohnStoneham | 05/05/2013 |
Parked at picnic site at SH 95736 32694 and took RoW from Aber-Hirnant up to forest road. Zig-zagged up this on flank of Moelfryn, and then RoW over field. When in forest again followed track up ridge to unmarked summit near foundations of fire tower. NOTE: track along ridge is now blocked by storm-felled trees near summit - detour through forest on downward eastern side to avoid most of the problems. Returned mainly by same route. Trail walk/run. | Man of Kernow1 | 16/12/2012 |
Parked ~ 958323. Climbed via footpaths and forestry tracks, all good. Fire tower shown on o/s map has been dismantled. With Wombourne. | steve hudson | 04/03/2009 |
