Cripiau South Top > Cripiau Far South Top > Ffrwd Ergyr > Peraidd Fynydd > Cefn Chwarelmelyn > Cefn Chwarelmelyn East Top > Cefn Croes > Banc Dolwen from GR: SN 79380 83028 | ronaldo333 | 30/09/2023 |
Parked at the entrance to the wind farm at 794 830. Followed the access road up to just under Cripau, where I cut up, heading for the North Top and then the South Top. Returned to the road and followed it to 805 820, taking a ride to the east of Peraidd Fynydd and then up through the mature trees to the summit. Next diversion from the road was easy bag of Cefn Chwarelmelyn on the right, followed by Cefn Croes on the left. Kept to the road, taking the right turn to 794 787 to take the ride to Banc Dolwen. Descended to Afon Myherin at the bridge. Followed the road to the bothy at Nant Syddion, then double backed on myself to take the bridleway up to the ridge at SN 768 786. From here followed the delightful ridge past the trig and Pen Dihewyd, Y Glog SW top (at 547m) and the main summit of Y Glog at Draws Drum. From here followed ATV track past the lake to the SW top of Peraidd Fynydd (554m) and then via the gate and track to access road. 28km with 1100m ascent, taking me 7h 45m. | silveracorn_alan | 09/04/2023 |
From Woodlands Campsite at Devils Bridge, paths and forest tracks straight from campsite. Blocked off fire break but way through on the left through trees to summit of Banc Dolwen. Then forest tracks to near Cefn Croes then through gate and up through fields to reach summit. | dgresty | 03/07/2022 |
Parked at entrance to windfarm 1km S of Eisteddfa Gurig for a circuit of 5 summits: Cripiau South Top, Cefn Croes, Banc Dolwen, Pen Dihewyd, Y Glog. | PGCE | 09/02/2021 |

Third of five Dewey's on a walk just over 17mile in length starting from a lay by on the A4120 near Tymawr camping first taking in Pen Dihewyd and then Banc Dolwen and then after Cefn Croes onto Cripiau S top and Y Glog. Returned to car via B4343 which is not a busy road. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 31/03/2018 |
From A44 at 793830, up Wind Farm service track & parked alongside turbine at 808798 - Less than 100yd to unmarked summit. Continued to Banc Dolwen. (PM) | gerrybowes | 24/01/2018 |
As GB. Nobody bothered us by taking the car up on a windy and inhospitable day. Headed to Banc Dolwen. | bolton | 24/01/2018 |
Parked on layby on B4343 near A44.Y Glog SW Top, Y Glog, Cefn Chwarelmelyn, Bryn Lychese, as the crow flies to Cefn Croes, Banc Dolwen, Pen Dihewyd (upper forest tracks west of summit no longer exist resulting in unpleasant steep climb from track south of summit so if approaching from west the moorland route along the fence may be pleasanter). | ijpowell | 06/07/2017 |
Misty up here today but good exercise. Only just off a good track. | Neolith | 12/04/2017 |
2/7 Great walk on misty day (Y Glog SW Top/Cefn Croes/Banc Dolwen/BrynLychese (Banc Nant Rhys)/Cefn Chwarelmelyn/Ffrwdergyr SW Top/Y Glog (Draws Drum) | Fergalh | 01/04/2017 |
From Banc Dolwen, easy walk on wind farm track | AlanD | 22/03/2016 |
Easy if you walk up the wind farm road. I do not like wind turbines and find their noise eerie. | clivevilla | 11/10/2015 |
Up windfarm track then cross-country to Y Glog | Colin Crawford | 25/06/2015 |
From entrance to forest up track then cut up to Cripau South Top, back to tack via forest rake, then on to Cefn Croes and beyond to Pen Y Garn. Followed track round to the rake (with yellow markers) to Banc Dorwen before dropping down to the Afon Merin. Followed track up past Nantsyddion then up to top track before cutting up just beyond Pen Dihewyd (double back to it). The going from there to Y Glog was easy enough before the drop down on the right of way to Fagwr-Fawr and then up past the old mine to the car. Excellent outing. | SS | 04/04/2015 |
Misty day - those turbines seem huge when you can only just see them through mist when you are underneath them - navigation by sound! | wychwood | 29/11/2014 |
Parked easily at beginning of track to W. Summit just off track. | destaylor | 06/08/2014 |
Climbed after Draws Drum. Ground between them very tough. Descended by windfarm road. | Man of Kernow1 | 11/03/2012 |
Start ~ 810833, layby. From Cripiau South Top, following wide access road up to the windfarm which stands on the summit. Returned on the RoW via Cae Gaer Roman fortlet. With Wombourne & Pat, | steve hudson | 02/03/2012 |
Coughing crows it is a wind power station (think 'farm' makes them sound more ecological than they are). Darren's road starts at SN973830. I was tempted to drive and judging by the number of cars that passed me, as I cycled up, then many do. | Martin R | 28/08/2011 |
Can't believe how big this wind farm is. Started from the north then continued south on all the tracks(which are driveable) | DARRENG | 28/06/2011 |
