Bryn Du from GR: SN 88147 79747. NB Forest road now has a locked barrier. Attack point: SN 84790 79750 and up forest ride.ronaldo33324/02/2024

A circuit of the Deweys and subs from the high level minor road going through the forest to the south west of Llangurig. Did Bryn Du first from the end of the public road at the Afon Diliw (843 773). Used the rally course road west, crossing the river, past the quarry, and just round the bend, where a ride takes one to the end of the summit ride on the left (fallen trees – but easy passage alongside through open wood). After return to the car drove the mile or so to the cattle grid (855 783). The road to mast gives quick and easy access to Llechwedd Ddu and its trig. Then for the man eating grass crossing to Cerrig Gwan y llan! Tough but made easier if the random trods are followed and one keeps to the shorter, drier areas shown by the browner patches. After bagging the Dewey, not much further to Cistfaen (s5) by going to the corner of the fence, up the ride to the crossroads, with the summit a short distance along the ride on the left. A total distance of 14km (excluding the shsilveracorn_alan31/07/2022
From the start of the forestry track. Just as I was about to start a police car drove up. Pleasant officer and seemed to believe my reason for being there. I suspect we had been picked up on the Llechwedd Ddu mast camera. Excellent track and it would have been possible to drive up to within 400 mts of high point. Took longer than expected due to large bends in the track. Finished in the dark.Campbell Singer10/11/2021
Parked at start of forest track, 881797. Track, then along firebreak (or just inside trees), as others.PGCE12/08/2021
From Llangurig for a round of Esgair Ganol, Cerrig Gwaun-y-llan, Llechwedd Ddu and Bryn Du.rhalstead06/09/2020
parked forestry start 881797 keep out signs and heavy logging presence so walked up about 10ks up and down, leave track at 8479 7975 follow firebrak and fence line NW to fence running NE highest point near lone pine easy back same way met logging vehicles late in eveningunderhill22/07/2020
The forest road was open so drove up to 84832 79778 where I parked the car and walked up a fire break with a fence on my right which took me to the clearing where I turned right again to summit by lone tree. The fire break I used had a few fallen trees to get around and the ground had a few hidden crevices but at least it was fairly dry. Three quarters of a mile and thirty minutes I was back at the car.WAYNE ROWLETT08/09/2019
Drove up forest track to SN 84219 80222. Nothing at start of track (SN 88149 79725) to say shouldn't. There is a gate part way up but it was open. Walked back up track a short way to SN 84285 80137. Scrambled up a steepish bank and then round the roots of some fallen trees to a ride. Followed ride and broken fence to where it levels out. Turned to left and walked into a clearing. Used GPS to find summit. Seems to be on tree line. Went to single tree just to be on safe side. Back to car by same route and then out to Llechwedd Llwyd. Really bad underfoot most of way. Didn't improve on the way back to car. Only did it because it was a Dewey when I started ticking them off.MikeM18/07/2019
Parked at 86027 81848 in layby. Walked back along A44 then down to footbridge over the Wye (not a ROW I was advised on the way back) and did a round of Bryn Du, Llechwedd Lwyd and Bryn Llychese. Quite a hard 9.62 miles on a nice dry day. I would do Bryn Llychese from the wind farm side if it was wetter.clivevilla03/07/2019
As gerrybowes. Agree with lone pine as summit feature.Moorponder17/10/2018
Parked at start of forest track at 881797 - Up forest track for about 4½km to 8480 7976 (where track crosses drainage ditch) - Headed NW up alongside old fence/drainage ditch, tussocky & some fallen trees, & then NE along firebreak to the high point which lies close to a single tree. Overnight at Nant Ryhs, up along forestry track ( bridleway shown on the maps lost in the forest ) and then up the fire break, which starts at SP 503. the lower section of the fire break has been lost due to logging.DanMaisieBex03/01/2018
Walked up the firebreaks from the track to here. Signs of deer browsing on trees near the summit.Neolith10/04/2017
2/11 Second of eleven on sunny but cold day (Llechwedd Llwyd/Bryn Du/Bryn Mawr/Old Chappel Hill/Pant-Poeth Hill/Peginn Mawr/Graig Iar/Molefre/Pen-y-Ffynnon/Coed y Gaer/Bryn Gwyn)Fergalh05/11/2016
Continuation of walk from Llechwedd Llwyd. Struggled east through bogs and deep grass to join a bit of a path down to forest road. Followed this south to junction, taking the left-hand fork upwards. At SN 84291 79797 left forest road to follow a sphagnum-filled firebreak to an old fence, following this up to the summit clearing. To descend, followed fence south through a boggy break in the trees (some fallen) to join a forest road. Took this east all the way down to our vehicle parked at SN 88148 79716. Long haul in on forest track from east. Missed fire break on way up which was a good thing as used a lush green one further up. Took it back down to the track which was a bad thing! Track is driveable all the way if you ignore the no entry sign - wish I had.SS28/02/2015
After 3483. Recommend gate at 85448 78816 then small fire break to 85444 78918 then to large fire break at 85727 79249 then onto track. Finally from track follow old fence to summit.destaylor11/07/2014
Start ~ 85889, Layby. From Llechwedd Llwydd. Descended south east to track on edge of forest then took to rough firebreak that led up to the summit area, a case of pick your own summit bump I'm afraid.steve hudson02/11/2011
From Llechwedd Llwyd walked SE over tussaky grass to a forestry track then a fire break to summit. Returned to track which took us back to bridge over R. Wye.wombourne02/11/2011
