Drum Ddu from GR: SN 99160 59779 | ronaldo333 | 19/08/2023 |
From near road end to NW, Y Gamriw first then followed path/ATV track top, although it disappeared in places. However cairn at top was easy to locate. Dry conditions made for easy going. | PeterD | 07/07/2023 |

From Blaenglynolwyn. | PGCE | 05/02/2020 |
Parked on the bridge just below the 281 spot height at Abernefal to the SE of Gorllyn. A circuit of Gorllyn, Y Gamriw and Drum Ddu on a sunny day. | garyhoney | 05/05/2019 |
Second of two tops from parking outside the church in Llanwrthwl, up the road and onto the bridleway between the two tops first summiting Y Gamriw. 9.7 mile in three and three quarter hours. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 14/04/2019 |
I was going to do the round of Y Gamriw & Drum Ddu from the N but after Y Garth it seemed more logical to contine along the road to Gors-wen (easy parking). I made the mistake of heading directly to Y Gamriw across what turned out to be rough tussocky moorland but it was easier from the steeper slope. From Drum Ddu I followed the ridge WSW, dropping down to the S end of the wooded area where you could cross the Nant Hafen and climb up by the fence. The 5.45 miles took 2 hrs 35 mins. | Jim.Fothergill | 24/09/2018 |
Did the Llanwrthwl Horseshoe Walk on the NT website, bagging Trembyd, Drum Ddu, and Y Gamriw in the process. Be wary when using this route, because the vagaries of the walk description can lead to mistakes, particularly in the absence of well defined paths and hundreds of sheep tracks, you can quickly end up on rough moorland.
However, some fantastic panoramas. Walked this on a sunny day, and the Beacons were clearly visible. | RyParks | 03/06/2018 |
From Y Gamriw, descended to the track at the col and took a path that climbed up to Drum Ddu. Open ground and sheep tracks led to the summit. Descended the same way and followed the track to the car, near Ty-segur-uchaf. With JT. | Sprog | 30/05/2018 |
From top of road east of Y Gamriw summit. Room for one car on verge. Y Gamriw, Drum Ddu. Mostly good paths. | ijpowell | 26/05/2018 |
Like Neolith, parked up just before the end of the road to Erwllwyn on a solid bit of verge at SN 959614. Walked up the track to the junction, then up to Drum Ddu, back down and up to Gamrhiw via Rhiw Saeson. We continued along the ridge to the cairn at SN 956620- an excellent section, before picking our way down to sheep tracks that slanted back to the road end. Sunny, warm, quite hazy but the Brecon Beacons could just be picked out. With brother, Pete | pwheeler | 07/05/2018 |
From SN960615. | summitsup | 27/08/2017 |
Parked up just before the end of the road to the NW off the road on a solid bit of verge.
Walked up the track to the junction, then up to Drum Ddu, back down and up to Gamrhiw via the Saeth Maen stones which were partially grown over. | Neolith | 26/08/2017 |
From Llanwrthwl (parked at church) by Dol-lago farm and then followed track to ridge where a path ran almost to the summit of Y Gamriw. Took in trig point on way. Then down good row path over to Drum Dhu descending by Rhiw Llanwrthwl then through field and woods to road. | SS | 12/11/2016 |
With K and RM from road end to NW. Interesting Neolithic ritual landscape. | Ashley | 29/05/2016 |

Parked tightly in junction with farm track at end of road at SN95811 61465 After bagging Y Gamriw, dropped down to col & then followed ATV track for about 1km before leaving track & making own way to the ancient summit cairn. (PM) | gerrybowes | 05/04/2016 |
My 2016th on the first day of 2016. Do I do more tomorrow or leave my total as is up to year end? Suspect I shall be doing more tomorrow.
Easy walk up from the high road up from north. Good going underfoot and remarkably dry considering recent deluges. Mixture of FWD and sheep tracks to summit, | Campbell Singer | 01/01/2016 |
Out and back from high spot on track, which is the continuation from the road end near Llanwrthwl. Parked 100 metres short of end of road where a fence comes down from the moor, turns and runs parallel to the road. Space for one car. Grim day. Rain, wind and cloud. Moor was soaked. Rain running off the surface and not sinking in. Was going to do Y Gamriw as well but being wet through gave it a miss. Had a really good sausage buttie on way home. | MikeM | 18/12/2015 |
From Blaenglynolwyn and on to Y Gamriw for a 7 mile circular walk. Good weather and good walking country. | jonglew | 13/10/2015 |
Pointed cairn on large flattened cairn. Fine views. Ascent from NW via the lush grassy mire of Rhos Saith-maen (hard going) | RichardM | 08/08/2015 |
From end of lane to the east. Path shown on the map bearing off the ascending path does not seem to exist but it does not matter as it is fairly easy cross terrain. | clivevilla | 20/08/2014 |
With Bev up from Wye Valley Way. | simon and co | 09/05/2014 |
From newbridge, Blaenglynolwn. | dicky | 19/04/2014 |
Parked at the roadhead above Llanwrthwl and combined it with Y Gamriw. | Chris Peart | 11/10/2013 |
Started at SN958615 where there is room to turn but only space to park one car without blocking the farmer's quad bike access. GR8 walk on a frosty sunny morning with Phil Cooper. Then back to col to use quad tracks to continue to Drum Ddu. | Dugswell2 | 18/11/2012 |
Easy parking at end of road from ESE. Tracks and then bits of path all the way. Pleasant. | destaylor | 04/05/2012 |
From Llanwrthwl via Wye River trail and RoW under north flank of hill to col W of Pt.475m. Descent to Carnau Cefn-y-ffordd and track/lane back to village. | Man of Kernow1 | 19/02/2012 |
Left car in large farm yard with barking dogs. Very hot. On bridal path through pens to a sheep trod leading generally in the right direction. Used GPS to fix a position, line of march and the top - a large tumulus turned into a wind break. 15.05. | arranc | 28/09/2011 |
Same route as Bernard - looked a long way round from the start, however didn't take long and was a nice march. Great pile of stones on top. | Martin R | 05/08/2011 |

Parked at end of road, GR 958615. Followed good track to high point then took grass path, indistinct at times, finally walking through heather to stone cairn on summit. Ground frozen so no problem with bog. With SH. | wombourne | 09/03/2010 |
Start ~ 957615. Climbed to summit of track and turned left on RoW to summit. | steve hudson | 01/03/2010 |
