Road is tarmaced to 509m spot height so makes for a short there and back from there.Alan Caine23/03/2024
Managed to drive to Pt 509, layby (NT797076) stile over fence, short rough grass to join ATV all the way to top. No militaria observed.Isbjorn06/08/2022
Over the stile and picked up quad bike track to the summit. Super views from the top with minimal exertion. Nice to see familiar hills from a different angle.Walker Dan18/04/2022
Red flags of Otterburn range not flying (weekend) so drove up the Coquetdale road to its public end at Chew green and parked (though tarmac continues, at least to col and gate was open). From col over heather and bog to obvious trig and summit. Returned same way.Denise 06/03/2022
From the range road to the SW. No firing today (We are told the range is usually open to walkers on weekends.) Summit trig and 3 large cairns protected by MOD fairy wands.RichardM06/03/2022
Eight mile walk from parking at the head of the Coquet valley taking in Thirl moor, Ravens knowe and Brownhart law, three and half hours on a access day for MOD land.WAYNE ROWLETT08/01/2022
Walked up the road from the parking area below Chew Green. Feint track to interesting multi-cairned summit area. Back the same way. Solo. There seems to be a non-firing weekend once a month.Dangerous Dave19/09/2021
From road to SW. A convenient stile over the fence with room for a car off the road. Followed landrover tracks > Thirl Moor.JohnR16/04/2021
Drove the 12 miles up College Valley and parked at the Lower Green Chew car park. Set off walking up the military road for the first mile before turning left at the fence stile and plodding across the boggy heather. I quickly found the Land Rover track which took me all the way to the top of Thirl Moor. There’s a couple of large piles of rocks and some old rusting pieces of metal. It was misty on top, so no views. I came back the same way and was back in the car in just under an hour. Total 2.9 miles. Short drive to Barrowburn for another hill.JamesJones19/03/2021
Parked at Chew Green. Up the lane to the ridge, then soon found an ATV track to the summit.PGCE10/12/2020
Brownhart Law, Ravens Knowe & Thirl Moor starting from CP at W end of public road(Chew Green). Mainly on grassy paths/tracks. A super wild/open area with good views for the most part.ger20/07/2020
4/4 Dewey day. From car park near Chew Green at NT 794 085, visiting Brownhart Law, Greyhound Law, Hungry Law, Ravens Knowe and Thirl Moor. Less windy today but still very wet underfoot. A combination of the PW, forest roads and the ATV tracks aided progress. 21km with 570m ascent in 5h30m. (S)silveracorn_alan07/07/2020
Start ~ 794085, Chew Green. Non firing afternoon so walked up road to the top of the ridge and followed that to the trig. Weather drizzle with strong winds, with Wombourne.steve hudson08/10/2019
Parked at GR 794085 near Chew Green Roman marching camp. Walked steeply up the road to the ridge then a short walk through heather to the trig point. A very strong wind made walking in a straight line difficult. With SH.wombourne08/10/2019

Received permission to bag this hill on the live firing range at Otterburn. Followed the instructions given. Weather was warm and mostly sunny but with a haze on the hills. Remains of about 5 sheep near the summit. Headed to Spithope bothy via chewgreen afterwards for lunch before bagging Brownhart Law again on way back to car.NorthernWayfarer18/04/2019
After driving from Cottonshopeburnfoot over the range road, started up past Roman fort to Brownhart Law on the border. Then along very dry ground to Ravens Knowe meeting Pennine Wayers. From there small return then across range to Thirl Moor then back to car. Really great walk in the conditions.SS26/05/2018

A round from Chew Green carpark of Brownhart Law, Hungry Law, Ravens Knowe, Thirl Moor. Much of walk on either quod bike tracks or forest tracks. Footpaths and sheep trods covered most of rest. Section from Browhart Law to Hungry Law would be a nightmare in the wet but relatively dry (at moment) for most of that section but there was the odd bit of wet ground. Tried to cut down through the forest to save time but failed. Planting is newish (5 years old?) and difficult to move through. Followed track to NE of Heart's Toe then to NT77634/05894. New planting abuts old planting. Went up through old planting to Ravens Knowe. Good walking then all the way to Thirl Moor. Dropped down to old round sheep fold at NT80037/08666 and Up hillside to track slanting across the hillside. Followed to road and back to carpark. A good walk.MikeM23/04/2015

On own. Circular walk from Buckhams Bridge CP - Thirl Moor - Fulhope Edge - Whar Moor - Bell Hill - Tindale Law and back along road 12 miles, 2400ft 6 hours. Ranges closed for lambing so great chance for an extended wander on these hills - saw no-one else all day.Crib Goch06/05/2014
Up from high point on road.stan toon26/08/2012
from chew green road.no military artifacts apart from a rusty esbit solid fuel cooker.Deedubr18/08/2012
This hill must be climbed outside of the army shooting times. I put my tent up alongside the Barrowburn road close to the cattle grid, set off at 6am and made a beeline straight up the hillside aiming for the top. Once about half way up a good path is picked up leading straight to the summit. Took me slightly under an hour up and down.moorsman16/08/2012
From layby to SW. No 'Keep Out' signs. No red flags flying. Stroll over bits and pieces of tracks - some heather.destaylor22/06/2012

Used MTB for large loop of Hills. Very sunny and warm. So hot I took my cycle shorts off and bagged the summit unbagged! Trig point about 3 feet lower then large cairn. If using car, park at highest section of road near point 509. Check firing times!Jhimmy20/04/2009
Evening drive up with Darren in his campervan after round of Wool Meath to Cater Fell.Chris Pearson14/07/2007
Cheviots Dewey bagging: Blindburn - Thirl Moor (stony summit) - Ravens Knowe - Hungry Law - Brownhart Law - Beefstand Hill - Windy Gyle - Lint Lands - Bloodybush Edge - Yarnspath Law - Shillhope Law - Blindburn RHW03/01/1998
Make sure you phone Otterburn Range Control to check if firing in the area before you set off. I was told there was a low chance of finding unexploded ordnance in that area but that was 13 years ago.andy04/09/1993
