2/3. A revisit to Melmerby Fell as it gave a great way to drop down onto Cuns Fell and Catterpallot Hill. Then straight down South West from Catterpallot finding useful gates all the way down to the footpath which leads back to Memerby via Gale Hall Farm. A nice round achieved in 3.5 hours on a warm February day. Good views.nickywood118/02/2024
From the free parking area at Hartside cross to the North to reach the Nuttall summits of Fiends fell, Melmerby fell and the Dewey top of Cuns fell(my last English Dewey), a Seven and Three quarter mile walk returning by the same route as the Aglionby beck which the Maiden way cross's would have been in spate.WAYNE ROWLETT11/12/2023

Parking at NY624369. NE up RoW to L-hander at about NY638376, where a grass swathe heads up E, then a good sheep trod contours around the hillside to about NY643374, then peters out. Wall can be crossed with care at the 500m contour at about NY646374, followed by a contouring TR S to colIsbjorn30/08/2022
From Melmerby. Took the lane up past the drive to Gale Hall through Rake Beck Wood. Left the track at a gate after a copse at NY 63275 37279, crossing a field and down to ford Rake Beck. Followed the beck east to a wall, with a small broken gate. Then traversed south over another stream, then steeply up to the craggy summit. Returned much the same way. Solo. 9.1km, with 435m of ascent.Man of Kernow121/06/2022
Rather nice craggy top and clear views of Lakeland fells and Criffel. From ridge S of Hartside pass and onto Catterpallot Hill, then Cross Fell. With R& CJO.Denise 14/11/2021
On way to Cross Fell with Richard and Denise, ticking a couple of Tumps and Elmsie on the way. Still needs a revist to complete Elmsie.cjo14/11/2021
From ridge to W. A great little peak of hard igneous rock with outcrop at high point. Great views. With Denise and cjoRichardM14/11/2021

Circular walk from Hartside Pass: Hartside Heights - Benty Fell - out along Maiden Way via Melmerby Bothy to Meg's Cairn - Cuns Fell - with return via Melmerby Fell and Fiend's Fell.RobB14/04/2021
From Melmerby Fell. I always enjoy walking west from the Pennines and today was no exception, especially after messing around in the wretched mist. Distant pasture was illuminated to and almost surreal shade of green through holes in the dark cloud and surrounding spurs gave the walk a satisfyingly hilly feel. On to Caterpallot Hill.Wycombe Wanderer08/09/2020
11.2 mile circular from Gamblesby, walked along road to Melmerby then along dead end road SE picking up path through woods up to Meikle Awfell, from there an annoying descent followed by trails fording 2 little streams along the access land boundary until the col between Cuns Fell and Caterpallot Hill, climbed over wonky gate into private land up to the summit of Caterpallot Hill, returned back to col and then a long ascent up to Cuns Fell's rocky summit, then followed ATV tracks onto Melmerby Fell, from summit an easy, not particularly boggy trail takes you all the way to Fiend's Fell, from the trig we descended NW across easy ground joining the byway and following it easily back to Gamblesby. The day started cloudy and showery but all cloud cleared when we got onto the higher tops, only saw 3 offroad bikers on the byway at the end, no one else, nice views into the Lakes, Scotland and towards The Cheviot.DanTrig02/08/2020

Rake Beck Wood (Melmerby) > Cuns Fell > Melmerby Fell > Knapside Hill> Gate Castle > Rake Beck Wood (Melmerby) Parked at the end of the road (space for several cars), followed track up to the intake and then cut across open ground, staying above the fence till Cuns Fell was reached. Climbed up onto the plateau and traversed Melmerby Fell and Knapside Hill before descending the track back to the car. Stunning February day. Unseasonably warm but quite hazy, just me and H.johnkaysleftleg27/02/2019
Short round of 3 hills from NY 6241 3699, parking for a few cars at lane end. Melmerby Fell first, then a direct line down to here. On to Catterpallot Hill.jonglew21/09/2018
Parking at Melmerby Lane end and track followed into access land. Where the track turns north we continued NE and picked up a faint path that turned SE and crossed the wall near Rough Brow level with the 500m contour. Thereafter round to Cuns Fell summit, and then onto Catterpallot Hill. Returned back the same way except cut off Cuns Fell summit, as it was unclear how easy a more direct route back would be!Fisky Boy21/05/2018

From end of road at Rake Beck Wood taking track to sheep pens then on to Melmerby Fell. Unfortunately mist all the way so GPS helped until I met the wall/fence junction on way to Cuns Fell. Came off that to west and picked up unmarked path back to about half a mile up from starting point.SS17/02/2018
Parked as for two previous logs - lots of room. Tried to follow their route but clag was down and navigation difficult so probably added 20% to my route. Would have been a nice hill on a better day. Return via Catterpallot hillCrib Goch11/01/2018
Parking area (3 cars) at end of minor road at 625370 - Up RoW to gate at about 632372 - Across field & over Rake Beck to another gate - Crossed Hungrigg Sike easily at low wall/fence & made way up to gate at NY63874 36989 - Over gate onto access land & then a straightforward ascent to summit. Parked at the road bend at 624370. Headed east and went through the gate after the last of the woodland on the right. Headed directly to the summit. Only one fence/wire to get over. With GB. 1.75 hours.bolton22/12/2017

From Melmerby lane end, good parking for at least three cars. Follow track and FP up and then delightful path/old track back up to 600m. ATV goes further. Onto Melmerby fell via Knapside Hill, then on to Cuns Fell and Catterpallot Top. Easy ridge back to farm track and Gale Farm. FP out. Super views to Lakes and the lower Eden valley tonight.nordicstar02/09/2014
