| Parked by the bridge in Conistone. Walked up the Dib, then followed Bycliffe Road to Mossdale Shooting Lodge, where I turned up the ATV track created by the grouse parties. At the end of the butts headed off to meet the boundary fence, turning right and followed it to until adjacent to estate track coming up from the east. Dipped down east and followed that to Moss Drive, which I missed when last on Meugher. Then back to the rubble road, and just after the bridge across the beck, turned up decent netted track for a revisit to the trig on the summit of Meugher. Then west across country to pick up the outbound route, following it back to Conistone. 20km with 570m ascent taking 5h 30m. | silverwolf_alan | 27/11/2022 |
| Seems to be acceptable to park on S side of road, each end of bridge (SD979674). Into Conistone and up Scot Gate Lane tk to shooting lodge (SE021700). Multiple ATV tks radiate out, I chose the grassy swathe leaving from a gravel platform behind the lodge, good initially, some plastic matting, then peters out in heather. Thin ditch leads E to a black crevasse, too wide and deep, with overhanging edges to jump – followed it ENE on intermittent faint ATV to ridge fence at hurdle, marked number 8. Over hurdle, ATV on other side, going E, immediately gets lost in a zone of MEBs, but improves. Eventually joins a 4x4 track at SE0385669898, which is an extension of the 4X4 track from Lofthouse (SE097733). Followed this to butt number 3, then rough moorland to top. Back to number 8 hurdle, and found an ATV tk heading through grass directly towards the lodge, but petered out in tough veg. | From Conistone, with AT. Took the path up the Dib Gorge (recommended) and then the long track over the moor up to the shooting lodge beyond Mossdale Scar. Then a pathless hike over the moor and peat hags up to the summit. A wild and lonely place. Returned by outward route. Access will be a problem on grouse shooting days. | From Conistone up the Scout Six Dales Walk route (via the Dib) past Mossdale to Sandy Gate. Then south along the fence and across to Meugher. Back over Ragstaff Hill and down Flat Moss to the shooter's road. | Popped up on one-way walk from Grassington to How Stean Gorge. Through the lead mines (highly recommended) and then follow the track to GR 037680. | Plenty of roadside parking either side of Conistone Bridge - Through village & took RoW up Gurling Trough, a narrow gorge, to Conistone Dib - Joined Bycliffe Road & up to FB & Shooting Hut at 020701 - E. up ATV track to last butt at 028700 & then followed ditch to pick up ATV track to fence junction - Crossed to N. side of fence & followed ATV track ESE to 038698 & then NE on good track to bend at 041071 - Left track & then a fairly straightforward ascent of less than ½km to summit. | From Conistone bridge. Followed the gorge, then Bycliffe road and up to the well maintained shooters house at 021701 with GB. Headed upwards over easy ground directly east to the 3 way fence. | Parked near the bridge at Conistone then up bridleway to Mossdale Scar and the shooting hut. Then up a quad track to pass 5 double shooting butts then aim for fence and first proper view of summit. Cross peat hags to summit then onto Moss Drive before heading back on a similar route.
