As others, parked S of Oughtershaw at SD8751 8071 (good space to park). Walked back along the road to the bridge, followed the path to a gate, then along the forest edge often between the fence and wall - fence crossings best in there. Some very boggy ground. Back same way.LizH16/10/2023
From Newby Head via Gavel Gap, Cam Cob, Cam Houses Farm and ATV track east of forest fence. Return by forest road to West Gate on the Cam High Road and then outward route. Tough in places…Jim T01/10/2023
From quarry parking as others. Up FP towards forest but headed off on ATV track to gate and up to forest edge which then followed faint tracks to top with a number of fences to cross. Went on to trig and back same way in just over 2 hours.PeterD09/08/2023
1 of 2: Parked at the quarry south of Oughtershaw. Used Norman's return route. With Karen.ChrisR19/04/2023
Parked East of Low Green field and followed the forest track to a fire break to reach the open fell once I reached the summit I returned via the Oughtershaw bridleway this I found was easier than getting through the trees. Five mile in around Two and half hours.WAYNE ROWLETT08/04/2023
From small quarry cp just south of Oughtershaw, into village and over footbridge on fp upto Wall. Followed wall all way to the top, bit rough and wet in places, but easy going. On into plantation to west and down track through woods and up track to Cam road. Along this to eventually contour round to Woldside. Direct down to road and back through Oughtershaw. Sunny day.Flatfield02/04/2023
Visit horsehead first then contined the horse shoe. This is tough going most of the way but the worst is probably descending back to oughtershaw.cjo14/02/2023
Parking in usual quarry, then from Oughtershaw via interminable trudge along E ridge on irksome veg. ATV tk W of trig point to gate at SD833805, then descended purgatorial FP, ESE arriving at forest road SD838803. Unmapped road continues in same direction but leads to Y-junction, the L branch leads into an obstacle course – a mercifully short fight and a BWF to get to road. Grim - recommend you use an alternative route.Isbjorn28/08/2022
With Chris Crocker. Parked on minor road NW of the hill at ca. 570m!! Followed the track to the farm and then ROW. Very wet and hard going around the low point by the wood. To return, we followed a more direct route to the car and found a good track with wooden bridges to pass over the boggy patches. Not the best of routes when you start about 70m above the hill's summit!!johnbarnard2502/12/2021
From end of road SD 82167 82758. Good parking. Descended through Cam Houses, then ROW which does not exist apart from a few stiles criss-crossing the fence. Rough going to summit. On return, picked up the ATV track leading from Red Sike Barn. Galltywenallt02/12/2021
From Oughtershaw, up to the wall at 865809 then along wall/fence outside forest to top and trig. Descended NE to the bridge at 84777 82224, although walked across dryshod. Back to car parked off road at 875807.NormanW07/09/2021
FP SW from Oughtershaw and into the forest, then along the track [Bridlepath] to the FP which comes up from Low Greenfield and follow that up to the ridge. Then along the ridge to the summit. Return straight down the ridge eastwards.IanHHill22/06/2021
A circuit of the top of Wharfedale, bagging the two Deweys of Cam Rakes and Woldside. I parked in the quarry to the south of Oughtershaw (SD 875 807) and followed the Dales Way through the village and on to Swarthgill. There turned south through the field and across the footbridge (SD 847 822) and up Oughtershaw Moss on the west side of Long Gill to the top of ridge. Followed the ridge west visiting both the trig and HP of Cam Rakes. Continued by the wall to enter the forest by a ride at SD 831 806, easy access over BWF and on ride to the forest road. The road allowed easy passage through the forest and up to Cam High Road. East along it, turning right at junction with the through road to reach the viewpoint. Then across Fleet Moss making use of the caterpillar track as much as possible to ease passage, and up to Woldside. Descended direct down easy slope to Oughtershaw Road. 21.7km with 530m ascent in 5h50m. (S)silveracorn_alan02/04/2021

Very early morning accent up through felled trees graveyard till found new forest Road half way up so headed left, west till end of first and up right next to felled area then back right east-ish up to pillar. Summit is 2metres higher 200 metres further on.vegibagger13/03/2020
From Oughtershaw. RoW to wall (SD 8659 8092) then followed it along; bit damp in places but reasonable going.jonglew10/09/2019
so many Bog Asphodels! Got summer sunday Bus from Ribblehead to Newby Head and walked to Ribblehead via Redshaw Moss and Cam Rakesraymondwilkes21/07/2019
Parked near Low Greenfield at start of Bridleway. Walked along road towards hotel, through gate. Soon found gate on R leading up to power line clearing. From here easy to find streamline which is still quite clear of trees. Turned left on forest track, then old ride up edge of remaining trees. A few fallen trees to negotiate at start. Fence/wall line along soggy ridge leads easily to top. With B and R.jenx16/06/2019
With Jenx and Bryher from parking before Low Green Field country house. Parked by the usual gate and walked through to gate on right before house, cut up to line of electricity poles, followed this until stream line was met and used this to upper track. After a short distance to West another ride cuts up after a few windthrown trees to top fence. Easy walking to summit areanordicstar16/06/2019
Start ~ 850802 Low Green Field. Lots of new planting, (and felling). Ended up heading East along forestry track for a mile before it swung north West. We eventually found the remains of a fire break and climbed on to the main ridge on Cocklee Fell. Followed ridge wall to summit through much bog. With Wombourne.steve hudson15/01/2019
Parked at GR850 802 and walked up what appeared to be a fire break before the forest was cut down. We then followed the fence and wall through very boggy heather to the summit.wombourne15/01/2019
From Low Green Field using forest track and firebreak.BLACKHILL12/01/2019
Out and back from parking space at the junction of Green Field and Oughtershaw Beck. Following the wall around the fir plantation over a purgatorial, half frozen bog,Eddie04/12/2018
Solo. Parked higher than the summit!Dangerous Dave12/05/2018
Cam Rakes [Oughtershaw Common] from GR: SD 86915 81674ronaldo33317/04/2018
Awkward ascent. Very boggy. Wharfe catchment completed.ngthack05/09/2017
Parked in old quarry S. of Oughtershaw at 875807 (Space for 5-6 cars) - Along tarmacked Dales Way to gate just before Swarthgill - Through gate, over footbridge & up ATV track to ridge - W. alongside wall to small summit cairn by fence. (S)gerrybowes03/06/2017
Easy parking at 850802. I headed through the new gate and behind the clump of trees where a rake is reached. Head west along the overhead lines and the remains of a path up the hill can be seen. This disappears and the terrain now is soil and debris from felling. Reach the forest road, head west and after the main clearing go up the edge of the forest which is not bad going. Reaching the ridge fence head west. 75 minutes return the same way. Solo but could be hard going if terrain is wet.bolton24/05/2017
From Oughtershaw. Allowed to park by 'No parking' sign. Followed Dales Way to watershed above Swarthgill, then up by wall- landrover tracks about half way to summit. Descended east along the ridge, leaving it about 300 m before footpath on a track that joined it down to Oughtershaw. Quite pleasant in the sunshine and exceptionally dry conditions, but the valley lacks the charisma of the limestone- quickly left behind after the start, and the summit is scrappy and dull, with very limited views.pwheeler10/05/2017
From old quarry south of Oughtershaw, went up hill by water treatment plant (one gate, no walls) to reach Woldside's undulating top. Dropped straight to road then took row to make ridge of Cam Rakes (slog along that). Decided to go through trees to forestry track - went really well down firebreak with only a couple of fallen trees. Just before bend, another line moves off towards Oughtershaw and is good almost to the fence line. Definitely easier (in descent) than the ridge.SS17/04/2017
From Oughtershaw. Followed Dales Way to Swarthgill, crossed the footbridge and headed straight up, following a useful but waterlogged quad-bike track much of the way. Descended east along the ridge (even wetter underfoot) and down the footpath.davidpettit8402/10/2016
With K. Parked at Oughtershaw on verge. Walked along Dales Way to Swarthgill turning left through gate before farm down to footbridge. Slog up boggy hill following ATV track. Lower than surroundings; one for baggers only.Ashley27/09/2016
Parked east of Low Green Field. Found a forestry track and then a fire break to near summit. Not easy through felled trees and a boggy fire break. Won't be in any hurry to return!Alan Caine02/09/2016
Parked on the verge on the cul-de-sac lane at Beckermonds (SD 87512 80299) - room for 2-3 cars. Took main lane north to Oughtershaw, and then the Dales Way west as far as Swarthgill. Then took track down to stream, crossing it by a wooden bridge to reach access land. Then rough ascent up Oughtershaw Moss to reach the summit. Walk continued south to tackle High Green Field Knott (not a good idea!). With AT and JT.Man of Kernow123/07/2016
From Gearstones via Dales Way with Alf. Forest operations extensive so tried footpath on forest NE edge up Cam Rakes. Nightmare. New barbed wire fence no stiles. Then awful hags very wet. The worst hill I have ever ascended. If you do approach from Cam Houses stay north of top and use vehicle tracks to ascend.mick08/04/2016
From Oughtershaw, a little wet underfoot in places.JohnStoneham20/09/2015
As per amblerbob under cloudy skies.Easy navigation but often difficult underfoot. With Oscar.catman11/08/2015

With Jo, from Oughtershaw (parking by Queen Victoria Memorial Stone (SD 86885 81598)): up bridleway to ridge, alongside wood to Cam Rakes and nearby trig, continuing alongside fences to Cam Houses and returning along the Dales Way. Weather; sunny, warm, good visibility.amblerbob11/07/2015
My 2nd attempt. I'd been here on 21/09/2003 but only gone to the trig point!Alan Moore03/12/2014
Parked at forestry to S. Path shown going NW doesn't exist. Horrible clear felling to get through until got to EW road and then wednt straight up a narrow ride. Summit plateau just as rough. On way down I just went due S from trig - NOT the highest point and then found a slightly less miserable way down through the felling. First and worst of 4. Do from NThearlaichdubh29/10/2014
Small amount of verge parking in Oughtershaw at an altitude of 1138ft. The two large areas that appear suitable both have Private Parking notices on them. There is a good footpath leading up from the south of the village as far as the trees on top of the ridge. From here as far as the summit there is an intermittent path (that avoids the bogs) to the north of the fence line. In the middle of the third field the path follows the base of the wall and is quite well trodden. (Managed to avoid the bogs altogether and returned with dry socks). 4.47 miles, 2 hours.moorsman15/10/2014
Lots of tree felling going on, which made access difficult. Therefore i had to sneak about, like a burglar, past the 'no entry' signs. This hill obviously gets few ascents and has little to recommend other than being a Hump.thenomad24/09/2014
Walked up via the footpath from Oughtershaw then followed wall and fence round the north of the forest to hit the summit and then the trig.Dugswell221/07/2014
Through 4 gates across the road to its end at 822828. Unusual walk to the top (and column) DOWNHILL before a climb up again.arranc16/05/2014

From Oughtershaw. Dales way to Cam Houses across to Cam Rakes and over rough moorland to summit. Descent through trees to Low Green Field, then along path back to Oughtershaw. Hard work with quite thick soft snow.PaulH22/03/2013
From rough layby at Low Green Field (SD 85072 80233). A not too difficult ascent using forest firebreaks.David Gradwell14/10/2012
Climbed from Low Green Field up through forest to ridge then left along wall to summit.Hard going across very wet ground.robert08/10/2012
Easy parking at Low Green Field. Fire break (bit messy) up to the forestry road. Then another fire break (messier)starting at 8387 8038. Then open country. Did most of route twice as dropped car keys. Found them - won't be playing that trick again.destaylor13/07/2012
