Walked from Greenfield Station on tarmac road, up past Dove Stone Reservoir and gravel track to Chew Reservoir. From Chew Reservoir path becomes boggy and difficult to follow. At gate and stile turn left and go up to summit north of small cairn. Views of barren moors for miles around. Onwards to Black Hill. The best county top yet.hillbagger9114/10/2023
Followed fence line up from right of way about 300m to the south. A small cairn seems to be close to but not at the actual summit. Excellent 360 viewVulcan09/08/2023
Park Crowden Pennine way to Laddow Moss out and back to Featherbed Moss tp then Black Chew Head return to the Pennine way to Black Hill then return south surprising good path but navigation still required very flat top to White Low and Hey Edge tp return path on edge of quarry.underhill11/01/2023

Pennine Way from Crowden, then cut off path just beyond end of Laddow rocks, didn't find any path. Over stile to top then back to Pennine Way and on to Black Hill. Back down old Pennine Way over White Low.Flatfield28/06/2022
From Crowden CP along Pennine Way and path to top via Laddow Moss. Walked a bit with man on his 2nd day on the PW.chrisbien28/06/2022
3/5 From Wessenden Head we walked along the road to collect West Nab then back onto the Pennine Way up to Black Hill (Revisit) and followed it down towards Crowden to use as a ramp up onto Black Chew Head and along easy path to Featherbed Moss. Then back u to Black Hill (Revisit of the Revisit) and out on the Footpath South West to get White Low which looks miles but walks out and back very well in under an hour. So therefore we Revisited the revisit of the revisit of Black Hill (getting a bit silly now) and finally decided to go home. A lovely round in a very cool June wind. (NB no big stick in the cairn here today)nickywood104/06/2022
Short diversion off the Pennine way when descending from Black Hill with a group returning to Crowden. Sunny dry weather. Small cairn on grass just over stile.Denise 09/05/2022

Parked at Woodhead Reservoir car park at SK 08178 99347, as A628 closed. Walked down into Crowden and around the campsite, taking an old road SW up to join the Pennine Way north. After Oaken Clough, headed east up onto the plateau to the summit post on Black Chew Head. Then followed a bit of a path SW to the trig point on the summit of Featherbed Moss - an insurance policy in case of LIDAR tampering! Then headed back to join a RoW down to re-join the Pennine Way south back into Longdale. Solo. 13.3km, with 465m of ascent. 5hrs 0mins.Man of Kernow101/10/2020

From the car park at Crowden (SK 072 993). Up the PW to Laddow Rocks, before striking off NW to the summit of Black Cew Head with stake just on Oldham side of the fence. Then back to the PW and continued along it to summit of Black Hill. Returned to Crowden along ridge on east side of Crowden Little Beck over Tooleyshaw Moor and White Low (did not visit the summit). Cloud cleared into a very hot June day with intense sunshine. 15km with 500m ascent in 3h40m. (S)silveracorn_alan23/06/2020
12:30, overcast and humid at Dove Stone Reservoir. With Bag For Life. Via footpath, would be difficult to follow higher up when wet. A more nondescript hill would be hard to imagine. On to Featherbed Moss.Wycombe Wanderer09/06/2020
From A6024 Holme Moss via Black Hill trig, Pennine Way path and return. Almost certainly first visited on 4/2/1973 between Featherbed Moss and Black Hill on Saddleworth Five Trigs Hike. Also often passed very close on PW path, first on 28/7/1970. This to be sure whilst restricted to visiting local points during CORVID19 lock down.Neil Midgley26/05/2020

From Dove Stone Resr car park (a reasonable £1.30 all day). Tarmac road up to Chew Resr, good track along S side Chew Resr, thereafter a bit rubbish. On to Featherbed Moss -> Hoarstone Edge -> Alphin Pike before a steep descent back to car park. A lot of rough and trackless moorland.jonglew04/12/2019
From the Dove stones reservoir car park. Good road then track to Chew reservoir. Path along reservoir becomes boggy, left at fence to top and large post. Also went over fence but no higher.Back to reservoir and on to Hoarstone edge.PeterD25/09/2019
