Observations:ground for about 5m radius is as high; very flat summit; prominent boulder 200m NW at NY 09719 12977 is a few m lower and not Birkett's intended summit

From Scaly Moss road, ample parking. Up E through the forest along the Scaly Moss BW, bearing left to the summits of Grike, then over to Crag Fell, over to Whoap before climbing Lank Rigg, descending via Whoap beck back to the road, easy to follow, dry and clear.matty1971b10/08/2023

From Cold Fell Road (Friar Gill). 18 km, 760 m asc. E and NE by the Tongue How BW and Long Grain to Iron Crag (Ennerdale Fell). NW along the Ennerdale Fence and SW to Whoap, Lank Rigg, Kinniside and Latter Barrow. Down to the Ghyll Farm Sheepfold and back by the Calder, Monks Bridge and Friar Gill. Parked at the lower car park for a 28 mile circular walk. First I climbed Grike (488m), across to Lank Rigg (541m), Whoap (511m), and Crag Fell (522m) before descending back to the lake via the Crag Fell Pinnacles and Angler's Crag.
