A round of 9 hills from minor road to westAlan Caine30/09/2017
WOs 49,50 and 51. Bs 49,50 and 51. From base at Gosforth drove first to Cold Fell and up and down by Ws route. Then did Swarth Fell and Burn Edge from a bit further along the road. Parked next at sharp right bend where track goes off to the east just below Blakeley Raise and quickly up and down. Finally down track and steep hillside through pathless shoulder high bracken to Nannycatch Gate and up incredibly steep grass slope onto Dent, easy forest track down to below Flat Fell and over it back to the road and the car - exhausting but dry and good views.BURGESS29/07/2017

Continuation of walk from Lank Rigg. Descended pathless west over boggy Latterbarrow Moss. Forded River Calder (would be difficult in spate) and then steeply up through bracken to the summit. To descend, followed north flank of the hill down to the road and hence to car. Solo.Man of Kernow121/06/2016

Bagged whilst on the Lank Rigg route. Droping down into the Calder valley from Latterbarrow and up onto Swarth Fell was suprisingly stiff. From here all 3 Wainwrights and 6 Birketts in the circuit can be viewed.jonglew21/03/2013
difficult getting down to and crossing river Calder gators not doing their job and letting water in boots short distance from Latter Barrow but time consumingcolinfielding04/02/2013

If walking between Latter Barrow and here it is well to remember that, after rain, the river can be unfordable. This leaves walkers on the eastern side with a great problem. The public footpath shown on map following the eastern bank does not, in reality, exist. What you are faced with is a long trudge through often deep swamp-like conditions. To avoid this you need to climb back uphill and follow the lower slopes of Latter Barrow to the ford on the path below Blakeley. Even then, the Caldew needs crossing, which, after heavy rain, can still be a problem. Far better to head for the road directly from the summit of Latter barrow and climb the last two summits from this road, moving the car along to just below both of them. Drier, quicker an far less effort!moorsman16/10/2012
