Loch Turret cp, along E side of loch then up S slope of A Chairidh on pleasant short grass. A bit boggy after all the rain. Up into mist to small cairn. E then SE descent and climb up Auchnafree, mainly easy going but tricky navigation in mist. S descent and track past Gilberts burn then E to non existent track, though areas had easier walking. To Choinneachain then narrow path NE round Blue Craigs and up Stonefield Hill. Some peat hags. Descent via interesting stepped cairn to track to just before Barvick Burn. Small path SE to track and easy path S to Barvick Trig. Same back to contouring track to cp. 25km, 800m climb. Finally mist cleared about 4:30pm.Lynnebe20/03/2024

Tracks along Loch Turret and up towards Auchnafree Hill. Returned to track junction and on to Gilbert's Burn then off-piste east in search of track shown on 1:25000 OS map. No track found, so pathless across moorland to Choinneachain Hill, rejoined main track and took the long loop back to the car park.TRG31823/07/2023

From Loch Turret reservoir car park. CW circular walk to Carn Chois - Ben Chonzie - Biorach a Mheannain - A'Chairidh - Auchnafree Hill. In cloud most of the day from the car park, with some rain coming later than forecast. Mostly cleared up by final descent so some views back up the valley. Good paths to Chonzie then largely free format thereafter - old remaining fence posts a useful handrail at times. Steep descent back down to reservoir. With Gillian.richard6930/04/2023

Nice clockwise loop along the loch to start then stayed high and traversed back on the tracks until we were above the dam car park. A quick off-piste descent and we were back at the car.mike__riley04/03/2023

Parked by the dam and biked in to NN796300. Then did a clockwise circuit of the five Simms. Despite the rain yesterday all the streams crossing the track to the head of the glen we passable. Made a return dog leg up the steep SE slopes of Biorach a’ Mheannain. Followed round remaining 4 Simms and the made use of the track on the west of the massif back down to my bike. 25km.BaggerGutt16/11/2022

further to PGCE's log, the dog must have been called Saoirse as there is a metal sheet with that name welded into it 2008-2020. started at the parking in the sma glen, up glen almond on well maintained road, didn't realise there was a ford to cross, which was quite deep. crossed further upstream of the main crossing as there were some stepping stones which were quite slippery. On the ascent i noticed a foot bridge a hundred metres or so down stream (near the red barn and static caravans). Weather was closing in, but still a beautiful walk with track all of the way to summit.24km in 4hrsNicky C15/01/2022

1/2 Time includes 1h 21m cycling. From N with Auchnafree. Biked to Larichfraskhan, looped from there on foot. Very windy, cold wind. Sunny bits, some very light showers, both summits clear. Rounsfell03/11/2021
Solo MTB from Turret dam. Very steep ascent from lochside on good track. Rideable to summit. Brilliant decent via track to SE and Choinneachain Hill. Back to the distillery for coffee and cake.John Lee29/07/2021
From Newton Bridge. Excellent track alongside the delightful River Almond accompanied by the gregarious calls and behaviour of what I was subsequently told were goosanders. Up the track on the north side of Allt Coire Chultrain. OS 1:25,000 has this ending short of a shelter, but a reasonable ATV track continues WNW towards the fence line. Featureless heathery moorland to the summit. Then on to Beinn na Gainimh.Owen B10/07/2021

Small cairn may now be a larger one: I met a keeper on the summit rebuilding the cairn with added stone. When I asked, he said he was burying his favourite dog, which was 12 years old. Forgot to ask its name. Loch Turret circuit. Carn Chois, Ben Chonzie, Biorach a'Mheannain, A' Chairidh, Auchnafree, Stonefield Hill, Choinneachain Hill.PGCE05/07/2020
