From An Dun, crossed the stream by bridge. Wasn't sure where to ascend so went up, easy at first but very steep later on, a few sections on all fours! Found the tiny cairn without gps, but used it to confirm. Almost exactly 8 hours. | Jhimmy | 03/06/2022 |
Biked in to lodge, round the north side of the trees surrounding it, diagonal deer track to main ridge, path to the plateau. Warm and sunny. | iangalbraith | 26/03/2022 |
From An Dun, accompanied by a bagger I got talking to and his wonderful collie. Descended from the north end of An Dun, not too bad at all. Was intending to go straight up the other side but the terrain and vegetation was obviously much better on the east side of Allt Bruthach nan Spardan (grassy, less heather, less steep) so went that way. Quite hard work on a warm cloudless day all the same. Fantastic clear views from the summit : Ben Nevis, Ben Alder range, hills north of Kingussie, Cairngorms as far as Cairn Toul, Atholl hills, Glen Lyon hills, Bridge of Orchy hills. Easy ridge down to point 571 east of Sronphadruig Lodge, then back to the mountain bike and a 25 minute ride back to the A9. | Owen B | 15/07/2021 |
I opted for the WalkHighlands route rather than the direct approach in the SMC Corbett guide. It was longer and probably not noticeably less steep. It was a long slow pull up over Lub Bhan onto A'Chaoirnich. Crisp and tinder dry underfoot. Great views towards Gaick Lodge and Gaick Forest. I headed down over An Sligearnach to the col before Meall na Spianaig from where I cut back north on a deer track / trodden way that angled down towards Loch an Duin and my bike. An easy ride back to the car. | langskill | 01/07/2021 |

From A9 (parked in S-bound layby immediately S of track start) cycled along track to Sronphadruig Lodge, walked on 1km or so, forded river and up the S ridge of An Dun to S summit, continued to N summit, descended NE slopes, forded (easily) Allt na Craoibhe and Allt Loch an Duin, then ascended A' Chaoirnich up slopes immediately NE of Allt Bruthach nan Spardan, to summit, continuing S along ridges, descending back to Sronphadruig Lodge and cycled back to A9. | kdbennett | 21/07/2020 |
Solo, from Dalnacardoch on MTB. Round of Loch an Duin. | John Lee | 09/11/2019 |
Climbed with Richard on the way back from Aviemore after a great week at Elphin, Ullapool, Aviemore.

Nice weather and great visibility with the exception of a couple of brief showers. | amcculloch | 21/06/2019 |
Biked in, and then slunk round to the west ridge of An Dun, since the south ridge was a bit snowed up and looked a bit too tricky wearing trainers (mountain rescue police anyone?). Over the top and down the north east ridge (somewhat steep), across the river (easy) and up A'Chaoirnich by the grassy wedge opposite the footbridge (steeper still). Nice stroll over the plateau, and back to the bike for a quick blast down the hill. Proper mountains - steep and interesting. | Gill | 28/04/2017 |
With M. Easier than An Dun, with path most of the way, but tiring after having already climbed one hill. Another exhilarating cycle back, very quick. | douglas_easton | 28/04/2017 |
After a bike ride from Dalnacardoch, solo. Also went up An Dun. 5.5 hours for the whole trip. | Phreerunner | 09/04/2017 |
Solo. Climbed up heathery slopes directly to summit. | Dangerous Dave | 22/09/2016 |
Overnight circuit from Dalnacardoch. Followed track most of way to An Dun, but ford not possible to cross so took rough route to reach small dam and cross to climb S via S ridge of An Dun and visit both tops, camped at base of ridge. Light snowfall overnight then climbed Meall na Spianaig, A' Chaoirnich, the two possible tops of Bruthach na Creagan, returning S to climb Sron Odhar and rough traverse across lower section of Glas Choire and over broad ridge to Edendon Water and track of ascent route. Some sunshine and light covering of snow on tops on day 2. | RobertP | 27/03/2016 |

Bagged with An Dun from Edendon Bridge on A9. The walk in and out is long and hard on the feet! The hills are particularly steep also so the small size of the hills (relatively) shouldn't be under estimated. | Columba | 26/08/2013 |

MC JC. With An Dun. From Dalnacardoch on the A9. Cycled against a strong N headwind and intermittent drizzle to Sronphgruig Lodge. Dropped bikes and climbed steep slopes in lee of wind to An Dun. Heavy legs! Traversed An Dun to N and climbed even steeper slopes up the side of Maol Creag an Loch. Narrowly missed treading on ptarmigan and 2 small chicks. Cairngorm Club weekend meet based at Newtonmore. Alone. From Dalnacardoch Lodge following the Gaick Pass to near Sronphadruig Lodge. Ascended to the summit of Craig an Loch*. There is a medium sized cairn at the grid reference given in Munro's tables, 1974 edition, but the real summit is further north where there are two or three stones only to mark the spot. I descended to NW and crossed Allt Loch an Dùin by a bridge. Hence up NNE ridge to summit of An Dùn**. Descended to S to join Gaick Pass route back to starting point.

Notes added in 2016: *1981 edition of Munro’s Tables has position of top changed to the highest point. 1990 revision of Tables has name changed to Maol Creag an Loch. Now called A’ Chaoirnich. **There are two summits on An Dùn, both of height 827m. Currently the north summit is given as the Marilyn and the south summit as the Corbett. Note added in 2017: DBIH now gives the south summit of An Dun as the Marilyn as well as the Corbett. | pwbellarby | 07/03/1993 |
