After arduous crossing of wild country fr Ghèoidh, this summit ridge was being blasted by strengthening icy S wind, and was numbing. Difficult on ridge then down very wet path into Glen Baddoch...through smoke of a wildfire!NorfolkPT2118/03/2024

Cycled from the gate on the A93 at GR NO 138 832. Gate was not bike friendly and had to hold the bike completely vertical to get it through. Cycled about three miles and then walked the rest of the track. Then, took the quad bike trail and well visible/eroded path following the Allt Boruiche to the summit. Back the same way. The bike trail was quite steep and I think it might have been better to ascend up the Eastern ridge and not bother with the bike. Great views on top.tsharp13/07/2023

With the Gordons from Carn a Gheoidh in superb sunny weather. There’s a path north down Gheoid’s north ridge which crosses the stream and then joins the Badfoch Burn track east. Then ascended boggy heathery path to An Socach ‘notch’ along line of grouse butts, on north side of stream. Superb ridge walk to cairn at west end, then to Top at East end. A forecast of wind, clag and drizzle Harrison and I pick An Socach as a quick hill. Arrived in the dark at the layby on the A93 at 7:30am, booted up and were on our way by 7:45. Headtorches for the first 30mins, after which it was light enough to follow the track, as far as where the ascent path branches off. The ascent was fine - some small patches of iced snow that were easy to avoid, mixed with some semi-frozen boggy sections. Reached the cairn marking Socach Mòr where we started feeling the wind, so an extra layer was added. The ascent after this was steeper but we managed to keep a decent pace. Once at the top, we were taking the 40+ mph gusts face-on as we made our way across the ridge, arriving at the summit (tapping both cairns)by 10am. Surprisingly we had lucked out on the weather, but a front was coming from the west so we hoofed it back the way we came getting back to the car by 11:39am - total time 3h 54minmproudfoot22/01/2022

Went further up the main track to miss out E top and avoid a very strong wind across the plateau. Rob and I set off up An Socach (944m) at 8.45 am climbing the trouble free grassy slopes, encountering some boulder fields in the upper reaches and over the summit. 3 Munro’s down and only 36 hours of walking - a good start. Walked solo. From A93 Glen Clunie along track up Baddoch Burn to end of track, then ascending small path along Allt Boruiche to col midway along An Socach ridge. There and back to main summit, then along ridge to East Top (easy walking on stony ridge with fine views). Descend east ridge along small path to ford over Allt Coire Fhearneasg. Return to Glen Clunie along track. Wet start but showers gradually cleared and mist lifted with some sunny spells. Time 6 hours.jamessteel10007/08/2019

From verge parking on A93 south of Braemar (NO 13857 83103). Followed Baddoch Farm track as far as Allt Coire Fhearneasg, after crossing immediately turned right and followed the path through the heather. Boggy sections between here and the summit of An Socach East Top but thankfully mostly firm and dry. Intermittent rocky path between the east top and the Munro summit. Solo on a clear but sultry day from the A93 near Baddoch. Followed the track SW & then followed a vague path past some shooting butts. A heather slog ensued to gain the E top. Clouds were now gathering ahead as I pressed on for the main summit. On arrival a thunderstorm rattled down the glen. Decided to carry on to Carn Bhac as intended & headed N for a short distance & then carefully steeply down W on horrible ground. Rounded NE prow of Beinn Iutharn Mhor & worked a way on easier ground to Carn Bhac. Returned back around W & S side of An Socach to regain track back to the road.NotReallyABagger27/08/2000
