From road end south of Pitgavenie. Up towards it then over field to woods, gate entry through deer fence and short walk to top. 2/8 HuMP | N.Morters | 09/03/2024 |
Parked in the Kirkton of Bourtie kirk CP then along road NE then SE to Airyhillock. An open gate into the adjacent field led to a cow-grazed field NE of the summit, from where a third field crossing led to a deer gate and grassy track to the summit Trig. | summitter | 02/10/2023 |
Having already climbed Hill of Bourtie form the kirk car park in Kirton of Bourtie decided I might as well do Lawel Hill at same time. The fields heading up from the kirk still had last years crop stubble so going would be easy (probably wouldn't use this route if fields had been ploughed or crops growing). There is a small burn to cross at bottom of first field but after that way was clear bar a few small dykes/fences. Headed SE uphill aiming for far SE corner of woodland on other side of hill. At this point there are 2 gates a low metal one and high wooden one. Both have tracks heading uphill through woodland to top, however a deer fence divides them. If you cross over the metal gate as I did you need to climb over the deer fence at the top to reach Trig Point. Came back down hill to the wooden gate on way back which although chained isn't locked so you can open it to get through. | Jossker | 07/01/2023 |
From the kirk at Kirkton of Bourtrie, up the edges of ploughed fields and round to the gate on the SE corner of the wood. | NormanW | 23/04/2022 |
Up track to new house from west of lowhillside. | robertphillips | 28/01/2022 |
I was dropped off at the junction to the south. This made for an easy ascent following the field boundary until I reach the deer fence. A quick hop over at the gate and onto the summit. Returned the same way. Where I was picked up again. | Pilotralph | 27/12/2021 |
Fields (one heavily ploughed) up and down from Kirkton of Bourie to deer gate and track to trig. Planes overhead descending to Dyce -but non of Flybe who have gone bust today - with concerns for regional connectivity. Coronovirus spread in UK also a concern -just a few cases in Scotland so far. For me a more pressing concern was my car refusing to start - wipers came on rather than starting! Soon got going thanks to Catherine who lives here and jump started me -and had a long chat about running - instant friends when you share an interest ! | Chris Pearson | 05/03/2020 |
Parked by the church at Kirkton of Bourtie, round the edge of a field, and up across the next field. Continued around the east side of the wood to the gate at NJ 81157 24050. Inside the wood at the gate, and along the track to the trig point. Would have been best to have returned the same way. | LizH | 19/01/2020 |
Over frozen fields of stubble from Bowtie church (small car park and cut mark). Straight forward, even takes you to the correct side of the summit deer fence. | RichardM | 17/12/2019 |
Given permission to park at Pitgaveny Steading - NJ 8146 2417. Advised to take large, right hand gate at NJ 8116 2405 - nice track to trig | carole engel | 22/11/2019 |
Parked in long passing place opp Sunnybrae. Through deer gate (NJ 8044 2384); bear left following gorse/broom edge to NJ 8040 2387 whence followed wide track through gorse to a second deer gate; then direct line to hill top and trig through newly planted saplings. Hopped the deer fence to access the HP. | jonglew | 25/10/2019 |
As minto however there is no gate justover the col and we had to climb the deer fence. It’s not 8’ tho , more like 6’. The way to go is to aim for the deer gate you can see from the road at GR 80438 23840. The gate doesn’t open properly but can squeeze through. Aim up then the left hand (West) edge of gorse/broom until an internal corner of the deer fence is reached at GR 80507 24041 whereafter it’s simple to follow the fence for a few hundred metres to trig. | nordicstar | 28/01/2018 |
From road to south, between Sunnybrae and Lowhillside. (No parking here, but I arrived at this point on foot). Up alongside stream, so in neither field. Slightly over top of col to gate in 8' deer fence. Followed track E and deer fence to trig. It looks like the plantation has been extended, so what was the northern boundary fence is now merely an internal one. So DON'T enter the southern part of the plantation, as you'll have to climb the fence near the trig to reach the summit. Descended E, through gate out of plantation. S and W around field edge, and then straight down S to road T junction. And back along road and tracks to Ordiefauld. | Minto | 09/04/2017 |
Hatred field from se second field then deer fenced gate into top area. | vegibagger | 23/04/2016 |
With IS. Started on south side but closer to Sunnybrae, and passed through an opening into a field, which leads to a gate in the deer fence (avoiding the problem mentioned previously). | amswanston | 23/09/2012 |
With AS. Part Carried. With IS. Started on south side but closer to Sunnybrae, and passed through an opening into a field, which leads to a gate in the deer fence (avoiding the problem mentioned previously). | iks | 23/09/2012 |
Climbed from south side of hill from the road just to the east of Lowhillside Farm. upon getting to the top, I then realised the trig point was just out of grasping distance. (3m at most) due to a great stonking deer fence in the way. | robbosem | 16/04/2012 |
