Peat hags not bad from the north | Kiltie | 05/09/2022 |
Parked as others at the covered reservoir at the high point to the N. Over peaty ground to the summit. Lots of peat restoration on the ridge. | LizH | 21/08/2021 |
6.40 early morning outing from the road top up the north ridge before school in Lerwick on a lovely sunny spring morning. Initial dismay at seeing excavators and tracked buggies and a mile of plastic matting changed for the good when I met the friendly (and surprised) work crew arriving for this is work of The Peatland Action funded restoration of 66ha of degraded blanket bog. This is the 2nd season for the 4-man crew who have already done a good job reseeding bare peat on the east slope of the summit ridge. They will back restore the rutted matted mess of their access track once the job is done. Old salmon farm pipes have been cut up and used for the plastic track, and old salmon nets used to cover the peat - good low carbon recycling of otherwise waste plastic. | Chris Pearson | 30/04/2021 |
From road to NNE cold south westerly wind on top. | vegibagger | 26/06/2019 |
From the reservoir to the NNE. Bumped into Barbara and Campbell Singer at the parking spot. | Chris Peart | 18/06/2019 |
From good parking at the minor road high point at small covered reservoir. Easy tramp over peat hags. Met Chris Peart on returning to the car. Chatting with Barbara. | Campbell Singer | 18/06/2019 |
From HU 4234 4960, along peat cutters' track for a few 100 metres, then directly over rough, haggy ground to summit. | jonglew | 28/08/2018 |
Started up the peat cutting track along the Gilsa burn (not shown on 1:50K but on 1:25K) which ends at a remarkable roundabout near a hut. Direct as possible from there on surprisingly easy, firm ground considering the number of peat hags visible ahead. | Gill | 28/08/2018 |

From Girlsta reservoir, near the chapel. Good walk if your doctor has told you not to get excited. Wide views, though. No sign of Hamar. | Martin R | 11/05/2012 |
