Solo. From Bridgend, parking at the Community Hall. Up to end of tracks then along by fence to the summit. Back same way. Extremely windy today! | Dangerous Dave | 29/09/2023 |

From Bridgend, by track with bike to 525730, then across heather, tussocks and peat hags to summit, thento col and along to East Wirren, then back along track to bike. Ascent 2 hours, descent in 15 min! | IanHHill | 15/05/2023 |
With Yeltzbagger and Ketzster from the school. No views and the top is a quagmire with nasty fences. The curlews and lapwings lower down made it special. | Stevie n Tay | 19/03/2023 |
From Lethnot Primary School, Bridgend, up track, over Shank of Ledmaine, then N to summit at track junction thought peat hags. SE to East Wirren (summit & trig) & finally descent over Craig Narb and Hill of Formal back to Dikehead and school. | MichaelF | 31/10/2022 |

From the Glen Lethnot road by Auchowrie, cutting up a grassy slope to join the zigzag track up East Craig beyond the farm, keeping just below the shoulder of Hill of Wirren to outflank its peat hag embankment, then taking ridge top tracks to Craigangower and a steep up and down through heather to Bulg. Back the same way, taking the westerly track to the top of East Craig. The best of walk was after Hill of Wirren: a fine ridge walk with a cloud inversion lapping its eastern side and a remote and distinct hill topped with the remains of a large ancient cairn at Bulg. | Nick Down1 | 14/01/2022 |
Up and down the road from Lethnot Primary School, Bridgend [now closed]. | Pete R | 02/01/2022 |
Park at NO534786. The notice at the track entrance regarding the bridge being closed should not put off walkers. Smile you are on candid camera… Plenty of well developed tracks to choose to the summit. | BaggerGutt | 06/11/2021 |
13 mile circular from minor road north of Dalbog. Followed track through woods near river then ascended track to Shanno Castle from the north (Not marked on map). From here there are plenty of grouse shooting tracks taking you up to the Red Craig ridge and onto Bulg. Then pathless steep terrain onto Craigangower and a good track over Hill of Wirren across dry bogs to summit then along ridge via East Wirren trig to The Crannel. We descended back to car. Nobody else about. High cloud with good views south. 859m ascent altogether. | DanTrig | 12/09/2021 |
From Bridgend school - Shank of Ledmanie. Back via East Wirren and Craig Narb. It was shoes off for the crossing of the Burn of Drumcairn as there was no bridge just s ford. | garyhoney | 23/08/2021 |

From NO 503727. Good track up past grouse butts, intermittent thereafter but easy going | carole engel | 13/08/2021 |
From the primary school, taking in East Wirren on the descent. | Grinner | 11/07/2021 |
Circuit from parking area by Millden Lodge. Recorded route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2021/07/hill-of-wirren.html | Gayle | 03/07/2021 |
Start at the old school at Bridgend Grid 536683. Follow the track passed Mill of Lethnot School and on to the track up Shank of Ledmanie to Hill of Wirren, return back the same way. | smocks and denims | 17/03/2020 |
From Bridgend, followed track by Primary School up hill, E of Craig of Finnoch, then along Shank of Ledmanie, then last few hundred metres working through peat hags and over fences, descended W, then SW towards Auchowrie, picking up track that follows line of grouse butts, skirted Auchowrie to join road by a gate at Stonyford, then back to Bridgend along road | kdbennett | 08/03/2020 |
From Bridgend school on tracks via Dikehead Cottage and Shank of Ledmanie. Back via East Wirren. | Winterfloodian | 25/08/2019 |
From Lethnot PS up to new lodge then old track along ridge until new scar arrives from right. Took right branch at fork (mistake) then through hags (but still found a bit of the Liberator). Tricky fence crossing at summit due to bog either side. Back by East Wirren and track. | SS | 30/07/2019 |
Bridgend, up road and track to Dikehead, on up track to top of Rigg of Ledmanie, then contour NNE to fence and then NE to summit. Descend SE to track over to East Wirren, down track below Torr na Menach back to Dikehead. Examined a few of the scary looking manikins, when you get close you almost expect them to move! Too many horror movies maybe? | Flatfield | 19/07/2019 |

On TGO Challenge. Traverse of the hill. Approached from the north. Lots of the bridges shown are either no longer there or unsafe. We used the one at NO 534 782. Followed tracks virtually to the summit trig and surrounding bog.
Descended west to Edzell.
Lots of new tracks not shown on the map.
Strange mannequins all over the hills. Would frighten you to death if you walked up to one in mist!
Also gas powered bird scarers which kept loudly going bang, bang like a double action shotgun. | geralddavison | 22/05/2019 |
From Edzell via the Lethnot Road and bulldozed tracks. Last part over rough ground. | Windy Corner | 12/05/2019 |
GHC Sunday bus to Edzell. Clear and sunny, a lovely day. | Play2End | 10/02/2019 |
Parked at the apparently defunct Bridgend primary school. Up the track past the cottage and ugly new mansion to pick up a grassy ATV track with very fine views. This joins the tracks coming from the valleys by a fence, then an easy pog up the bulldozed track in soft snow and icy wheel marks. I took the left fork at the high junction, guesswork in mist and snow. Cut up to a gate in a fence just above, then off piste heading up hill through snowed up heather and peat hags, following my nose. Relieved to find the mapped fence which provided a clue to locate the summit, which seems to be a stick shoved in the ground. Also visited the trig. Easy downward navigation following my deep footprints in the snow. | Gill | 06/02/2019 |
Parked beside primary school. Walked up past all the butts. After getting round the double fence reached the trig point which was sitting practically in a wee Lochan. Circled across the adjoining hill and enjoyed the view at the lunch hut. | elizyanne | 14/10/2018 |
Fences, gates & bulldozed tracks galore. Eerie shop window dummies- presumably to scare off birds of prey. Pity they don't scare the grouse off somewhere safer.
Luxurious lodge being built for the grouse assassins at start of track. | ngthack | 03/07/2018 |
in thick mist above 400m! | rdhumble | 05/05/2018 |
With Dave Roeder. Up Auchowrie farm road (10:50) then crossed field to track which went much of the way up ridge. Snow near top gave firm way over boggy ground. Overcast; good views. Back same route; finish 12:15. | dbb | 20/04/2018 |
Parked in area in front of the primary school. 2 hours 30 mins up and back. Enjoyed the curlews, and again plenty of shooters out. Scarecrows a bit too real for my liking especially the highest one. This should be called hill of fences, as loads on summit near trig point. Company: Solo | iandesbottes | 26/05/2017 |
On our way to pick up Sam from Uni I parked at Stonyford just past the ROW sign 503727. Fortunately, Karen remained in the car (still recovering from radiotherapy). A young farmhand released 14 highland cattle from the field. They charged at the car causing £2,500 damage. It rocked violently frightening my wife. The farmhand herded them into the next field & then walked off ignoring Karen's shouts. On my return I found him. He denied all knowledge. I then went in search of the head keeper & got details of the estate. My insurance Co eventually recovered the losses in Oct after lawyers were involved. BEWARE! | ChrisR | 11/05/2017 |
Is it really necessary to construct quite so many tracks to pander to the idle rich grouse murderers. Disfiguring scars across the countenance of a once lovely Glen Esk. | summitter | 14/04/2017 |
With Jen from up the valley. Used track past farm to 485m then short cropped heather to fence and summit. | nordicstar | 24/10/2015 |
MC JC O. Easy ascent via track to summit. Burning the heather. | Martin66 | 04/10/2015 |
From the farm mainly on good track to fence corner, cross fence to a very good track that takes you close to summit. The on ridge to west to pick up more tops. | dickscroop | 10/09/2015 |
Parked opposite track (don't block beside cattle grid cos of horse driven vehicles) up track to phone masks through gate. There are tracks not shown on map which go within a few m of summit. These are killing fields for those slaughters of Grouse. | rogreeves | 27/06/2015 |
Weather fair. | MountainMac | 04/06/2015 |
With Grant | clashcityrocker | 16/03/2014 |
from track at auchowrie to ridge then summit knee deep snow and a whiteout. | robertphillips | 28/01/2014 |
Bright but cold wind. The gamekeepers' track mentioned by Martin R leads directly up the SW ridge to about 500m, thereafter animal tracks through moss and short heather to the summit plateau. | Topographer57 | 29/10/2013 |
From Tracks to the North East | nickywood1 | 06/07/2013 |
From Auchowrie there is an unpaved road - presumably for the use of bird murderers and their accomplices - that gets you easily and quickly way up the hillside. Curious solar panel near summit - for electric fence? Very windy so decided against visiting E or W tops. | Martin R | 23/11/2012 |

Freezing wind, sunny, warm, good views. | iangalbraith | 04/05/2011 |
Revisit. Trig by pool at peaty summit, N side of a solar powered electric fence, luckily easily crossed. No trace of mapped bridge at 517703: fairly easy knee-deep ford on a dry day. Good track up S ridge, ends 800m S of summit. Surprised some grouse chicks en route - 2nd time in 2 days. Bits of plane wreck fuselage at 52322.75496. First part of onward route to East Wirren is a bit of a bogflog. | RHW | 25/05/2009 |
A hot climb from Millden Lodge took us onto the peaty plateau and then E down onto Edzell | torkm | 12/04/2009 |
