Cycle on good, forest road to the ride at NX 9184 6340 then tortuous knees-in-chin up and down in heather. | Eddie | 18/04/2023 |
From fishery out 3 miles on track then fun in the fb. Go left to clear windfall. Poor atv track is clearer nearer top of fb and as others noted goes virtually to top. There is a false trail after second windfall on left - stay on fb although no track at that point. | SS | 03/03/2023 |
From Solway fisheries as others forest track
then firebreaks to open heather moor land. A tough hill to bag | Andrew Simmons | 25/01/2023 |
P forestry area just over bridge before Solway Fishery, forest road all the way up to FB that appears to continue (invisible) pipe track from Meikle Hard Hill. ATV on the RHS of this through occasional easy windfell. On leaving forest keep on track which contours to left a bit before taking you all the way to a few feet from the cairn. Splendid view across the Solway to Skiddaw & Man, and back to snow covered White Combe. Continued on through rough heather to Long Hill cairn then doubled back and went down FB by Kinharvie Burn, zigzaging a bit lower down through more windfell to rejoin forest road. Diverted down the old track by Hawkhill ruin, almost invisible at first but better lower down, then cut across field to another forest road back to car. | agentmancuso | 01/04/2022 |
From Kinharvie House, cut in to a firebreak at the hairpin bend on the forest track and spent an hour or two bashing and crashing an ascent ESE among the sitka. It was a lot of fun but we used a huge amount of energy to go 500m. Summit area very tough going as others have described.
Crashed our way back more or less E from the cairn through trees and met the firebreak others have used.. it led us to the forestry road at NX 91827 63379 as described in previous posts. Some fallen trees crossing the firebreak post-Arwen but it was quite easily passable. I'll go up again following the more sensible route up the firebreak. With NL and dog. | catlovesmaps | 22/01/2022 |
Parked just after the bridge at the entrance to Kinharvie Plantation (NX9369 6632). Followed the forest track to jonglew's rough firebreak at NX91846 63385. Followed an old ATV track up the right hand side of the break. This continued through birch and rowan planting towards the summit, going left out of the break, though we missed it on the way up. Summit area very rough to walk, but good view out to the Solway Firth. | LizH | 09/07/2021 |
Parked on logging road (NX 9188 6334). Wide and rough fire break along an old fenceline leads out to open ground at NX 9128 6348. Then 350m of heavy going to the cairned summit. | jonglew | 20/01/2020 |
Maidenpap and Cuil Hill from start of access track to gliding club. Followed Martin R route to Maidenpap, returned to forest track then steady descent on forest track N, at junction turned SE climbing until approx W of summit. Then followed line of wall initially on ATV track to reach summit ridge of Cuil Hill. | RobertP | 24/11/2018 |
From Boreland Hill. Rough going. It was so bad that I thought it better to cut down left through brash to get to a forest road. Going up Cuil Hill I met the oddly located National Lottery sign. Near, but not on, the top there are newly planted trees. Then it was yet more rough going northwards to Lotus Hill. | Alan Moore | 10/05/2018 |
drove up track from the fishery gate open today got as far as 922641 to much snow any further up, track to firebreak then deep heather after that to the top. | robertphillips | 10/12/2017 |
Cairn is at least as high as the other heathery bits. Walked up from Solway Fisheries track then heathery firebreak. Passing a heritage lottery sign 150m or so before leaving forest. The heather now becomes very hard going with a faint occasional trail through the young deciduous trees | cjo | 24/06/2017 |
A direct line through challenging vegetation/terrain from Maidenspap. Slow work. | RichardM | 12/02/2017 |
approached from Maidenpap to SW over thick steep heather, new trees, bog, tussocks, forest, felled trees and more heather- route not recommended! Cairn near HP but all very flat. cold and windy. descended a slightly easier route to track to west and followed tracks back to car at road near gliding club sign | Denise | 12/02/2017 |
Cairn at NX 91185 63104, 419m, GPS pos acc 3m. Tussocks at NX 91147 63170 similar elev, 414m. From NNE, Kinharvie Home Fm, track mostly good to NX918634, firebreak W to forest edge then 300 tussocky m due S | RHW | 28/10/2011 |
From Solway Fishery. Top newly planted deciduous trees. Very flat the cairn seems higher than 420m contour | chrisbien | 06/08/2011 |
