I had begun my day with a walk up Black Mount (516m) and White Hill (440m) at the southern end of the Penlands and then relocated to West Linton for my main walk, a loop which incorporated North Muir Hill (359m), Catstone (448m), Craigengar (519m), Byrehope Mount (536m) and King Seat (463m).

An easy ridge walk from Craigengar, if a little boggy just now. Unfortunately the cloud moved in finally. Solo /D | meltdiceburg | 10/04/2024 |
Circular route from West Linton (parked by green). Turned SW past golf club and took track by North Slipperfield. Climbed North Muir (long flat summit area), cross to Catstone, descent SW and along track before heading SSW by West Water to climb Mid Hill. Continued to Bleak Law, Darlees Rig, Henshaw Hill, Mealowther and Craigengar (some rough ground). From here easier ground to Byrehope Mount, King Seat and descent W to reach road and return route. Early signs of spring and some bright spells. | RobertP | 24/03/2024 |
From the few official parking spaces at Baddinsgill farm N on CBDR then E after Little Knock. Left track to head N up easy grass to Muckle Knock. E off to pick up track and bridge over Baddinsgill Burn and good atv track almost to fence just SE of Wolf Craigs. Boggy path along fenceline to Byrehope Mount. Continued on path SE then took rougher unpathed section S on fence towards Kings Seat. Easy climb up fence with faint path to KS. Easy grass E down to sheepfold and building on S side of Wakefield Burn picking up atv track then track to road. 1km back to farm. 9km, 300m ascent andgreat views in sun between heavy hail in strong wind. Dry feet in my new Meindl Lady Bhutan boots. | Lynnebe | 22/03/2024 |
From Baddinsgill Farm up Lamb Rig, through newly planted trees. Picked up track to col then up grassy slopes to fence junction, summit just beyond. | N.Morters | 31/12/2023 |
Parked near the golf club for a circuit of the West Water Reservoir over 5 Tumps. 2/5. | PGCE | 12/10/2023 |
Fair parking at Wakefield (NT128539). Hardcore track WSW to 6ft gate with weld mesh and mesh on side hurdles too. Chicken wire on deer fence too, but just low enough to get a toe hold and heave up and over. Followed track around N side of Lamb Rig to another gate which required similar tactics to negotiate. To col and up S ridge | Isbjorn | 03/09/2023 |
Parked in small area by timber sheds. General views more spectacular than the hill itself | Hirta | 17/08/2023 |
A clockwise high-level walk around the West Water Reservoir from West Linton golf course. First along the road around & through the course to the green keeper sheds and on past some new fancy holiday cottages to an estate shed, where a grass path leads up to a horse field NE of Mendick Hill. A continued climb over pathless ground eventually leads to a walkers path on to the summit. Animal and ATV tracks NW to North Muir Hill and then N over featureless ground to the wide track to Catstone. Grass path to Craigengar then heather-hopping over to Mealowther. More rough stuff ESE to eventually find a fence line up Byrehope Mount and King Seat. Straight down to the reservoir and the road back to the clubhouse. 5.15hrs. | summitter | 30/01/2023 |
From King Seat and on to complete W.Lothian. | lordtonult | 30/11/2022 |
No feature, levelish cotton grass. Very windy but dry and sunny. Parked by Treeline Woodland supplies, Baddingsill Farm at road end to E. Footbridge to N of estate office is useful. Picked our way up burned heather. Onward, S, to Kings Seat. | Denise | 18/06/2022 |
From Baddinsgill Farm, moderate going up hillside of heather, grass, bilberry and cloudberry. Hill on the hill a snaking path of mowed heather aids progress. High point un-marked on SW side of fence. Good views. | RichardM | 18/06/2022 |
4th Hump of the day from Baddinsgill road end. Back to cattle grid and followed new deer fence (initially very wet) through various gates to top. Descended NE to cairn, then crossed burn at old weir and square building. Note a new footbridge at 12359 55092 may be of use to others. | NormanW | 11/01/2022 |
