Penvella circuit from Stobo Village Hall.
4 of 5 | thekirkie pirate | 23/02/2024 |
3/4 Really pleasant walk from Stobo, along the JBW to pick up path directly up Penvalla, down and up to Ladyurd Hill and similar descent and up to Riding Hill. Then a smashing forestry section out of the heat, to find the little pretty top of Penveny - if only all forest tops were this rewarding. Saw a lot of deer in here. Nice estate land. 3.5 hours. | nickywood1 | 05/09/2023 |
Limited parking at start of track to Brownsland (NT173416). ATV tk continues on then left it in favour of a fenced corridor directly up Cat Hill, which was a good move because the ascent from the col to W is on steep, deep, pathless, horrible heather. Path through col is vague but develops into an ATV tk on S side of valley, then crosses to N side, through pasture, across burn and back to Brownsland | Isbjorn | 04/09/2023 |
With L - from layby to north, over Tor Hill on way up and visiting Torbank Hill on the way back. | Janet M | 20/08/2023 |
From layby N of Fort, route as described by others. | RobertP | 07/07/2023 |
Adrian, Colin and I fiddled about for a while in the rain on the various summit possibilities. I reckon we found it. | summitter | 25/06/2023 |
An afterthought to Penvalla after Mark's Dodd HofF entry. In company of Adrian and David. Pity about the drenching rain on the descent | Colin Crawford | 25/06/2023 |
From Penvalla with Summiteer and Colin catching up. Then did the 3 subtumps in the rain. | Adrian | 25/06/2023 |
From small dirt pull-in on A72 (NT 1764 4142). Farm road to Brownsland and beyond for Ladyurt Hill and Penvalla first, then an almost precise direct line across to here. On to Penveny and return for an 11.3km round. | jonglew | 19/01/2023 |
Late afternoon from lay-by on A72 south of Wester Happrew. Followed wall up over fort following wall further over shoulder of Torbank Hill then left it as it dropped into a dip. Over via ATV track to summit. Lovely powder snow all the way and sunset, icy -8* on way home. | N.Morters | 11/12/2022 |
Steep climb up Cat Hill following the fence. Flat summit area. Descended SW to join track back to Stobo. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 11/03/2022 |
A tough round of Riding Hill, Ladyurd Hill and Hog Hill in a bitterly cold wind with a light covering of snow over deep heather. From the layby at 176414, following the wall initially. | Minto | 04/01/2022 |
After a few hills in the morning I found the ascent of this one quite tiring due to rough terrain and a bitterly cold wind and a light covering of snow. From the layby at 176414, returning via Brownsland. | NormanW | 04/01/2022 |
From Wester Happrew via Cat Hill. | callumorr | 07/11/2020 |
Parked in the layby N of the fort. Up by the wall to the fort, then to the beallach below Torbank Hill. Contoured round to the next beallach, and then up on a broad track of cut heather, to the summit. | LizH | 05/07/2019 |
Solo. From Stobo. After summit of Penvalla descended on small path to col with Ladyure Hill and up to the summit of Ladyure Hill. Down through the heather to col with Riding Hill and more easily to the summit of Riding Hill. Down SE to forest edge and easily SW to join path near Harrow Burn to JBW and Stobo. Dry, mild, but rather windy. | pwbellarby | 14/02/2019 |
A short circular route from Stobo. | bjewing | 10/11/2018 |
up from layby on A72 | robertphillips | 26/07/2016 |
From Stobo, initially on John Buchan Way. Decent track path to within 1km of summit, then heather and bracken. summit does appear to be near the wall, hard to be exact. cattle on route in. | hils | 18/12/2015 |
Parked at layby to N, then followed ridge via fine hill fort to summit. Nice moor, good views | Thearlaichdubh | 30/12/2014 |
Up over Hog Hill from Tarth bridge at Drochil. Steep up & down from Ladyurd Hill, last Yeaman on LR72. | agentmancuso | 25/08/2012 |

Started from layby on A72 north of the hill - nice to see the grass again after last weeks snow and to hear the birds singing. | Moore100 | 07/03/2010 |
