From the heritage center car park, two excellent viewpoints, a trig and a boring bush! | tim747 | 06/12/2023 |
Parked in one of the big laybys halfway up the Pen-y-Foel road, walked down to Offas Dyke path and spent some time looking at quarries, cliffs, orchids and Grizzled Skipper butterflies on one of Wales best reserves for these insects. Then on to trig pt and HP, plenty of cover not to disturb golfers. Descended on bridleway to top of road (pt. 147 m) and walked down to car. 1h 45 min greatly enjoyed except the last metre to the HP (but even that was do-able in Spring) | pwheeler | 02/05/2023 |
Easy to get close to the top but the last few metres are brambles and trees. Surprisingly I saw no golfers, just two other walkers on the greens. | Alan Moore | 11/12/2022 |
On the way back from the Berwyns. Parked on Hillside (road in Pant). Had to hide from several golfers who looked confused to see me. Summit is actually in some fairly thick scrub. | Mark Jackson | 26/11/2022 |
Walked up from car park in Llanymynech. Followed Offas Dyke path and then up to top. Came down along path in front of cliffs then down to the canal and back to carpark. Walked with MCW | Woolly Hattie | 26/03/2022 |
From the Heritage area car park, up the English incline then along ROW to golf course then across the greens to the trig point. No golfers this morning. 1 hour round trip. Solo. | Pjb100 | 09/02/2022 |
Part of a circular walk taking in the impressive Llanymynech quarries. | greboicus | 20/11/2021 |
Parking available just before entrance to golf club by utility area. | Adrian | 12/09/2021 |
Not to be done in shorts and T shirt!! | johnbarnard25 | 14/09/2020 |
As gerrybowes. Trig and summit. | PGCE | 22/08/2020 |
Path of sorts from SE corner of the 13th Tee. Scratchy ascent even in winter. In darkness. | RichardM | 09/01/2020 |
Easy verge parking at 2593 2166 - NW along road for 100yd & then up bridleway to the 13th green - Made way up to the 13th tee, using RoW where possible, & then a bit of a path up to the gorse & bramble summit. Early morning jaunt so just a few dog walkers & no golfers. (S) | gerrybowes | 05/11/2019 |
the summit is not as well tended as the trigpoint area | cjo | 18/08/2019 |
Here for the trigpoint, as per website, next to 13th in gorse/brambles, lovely. TP:UK log:

Parked at SJ 25868 21741. Nice walk up to golf course and then over a couple of tees to get to trig, no one about at this time of day. Also bagged the nearby hill and a couple of geocaches. | thejackrustles | 24/11/2018 |
Friendly golfers didn't seem to mind is wandering around on a cold and misty evening. Went to trig and then battled the gorse at the top. Actually not too difficult. With B and R. | jenx | 22/11/2018 |
Parked in GC CP. easy walkingvto trig, less easy to Hump summit. Ladies day on course, all v friendly | nordicstar | 22/11/2018 |
Parked at SJ 25902 21682, up the waymarked path, right to the trig, more or less direct to the W edge of the clump of trees/gorse at the summit where a gap gives access to the top. | Jim.Fothergill | 19/09/2018 |
Parked at SJ 2678.2171, an entry point for nature reserve. Interesting walk below cliffs then up to golf course. Trig first then summit in gorse by 13th green. | Aye Jimmy | 20/05/2018 |
From Llanymynech, along canal to Pant,up through quarry and returned via steep incline. | mad max | 13/01/2018 |

From school car park in Pant, easy access to within 100 yrds. Wouldn't want to try it in summer. | rhalstead | 24/12/2016 |
Parked by A483 small parking area by border markers. Followed Offa's Dyke path. On to golf course, went to trig first, good views then to 13th tee. Bit of a gap in brambles to follow(fellow baggers clearing the way?).Golfers were friendly. | Rob50 | 13/11/2016 |
Parked at the end of the Fron-goch road and followed ROW's to the trig, then along to the summit behind the 13th tee - a prickly problem! | Chris Peart | 14/09/2016 |
Bagged whilst walking Offa's Dyke path. | Ramblingpaul | 30/06/2016 |
Walked as part of an organised walk starting in Trefonen. | noxibis | 01/06/2016 |
With Minnie, on hill at 8am, from Waterworks parking, through 'interesting' heritage area, past quarries, up onto golf course 'cave' is a surprising find but worth going in, up onto top, not best time of year due to undergrowth as previous comments, secateurs would have been usefull, Trig far more pleasant, beautifull morning, surprisingly few golfers, nice hill, good views in places. | apricorum | 31/05/2016 |
Parked near end of minor road as others. I had waited until Winter in the hope that some of the undergrowth had died back and took sceateurs. They were very useful although you only have to go about 15 steps in. The trouble is that the starting point is right by the tee so you feel a bit of a fool if there are golfers around. Today was cold and rainy so there weren't any. | clivevilla | 24/11/2015 |
from golf car park. wander around the golf course taking in the topo and trig too. lovely golf course...but its not my thing. | stig_nest | 05/06/2015 |
Climbed virtually to the top of the highest tree in the thicket just to make sure. | Alex C | 17/02/2015 |
Walked here from porth y waen, nice walk along the wooded cliff. Lots to explore | tumpawumpa | 01/02/2015 |
Golf course preventing actual summit being reached; last climb of the day and hence a real struggle! | npickup | 07/04/2014 |
Up from Llanymynech. Top is impenetrable but got close enough. With Bev. | simon and co | 01/03/2014 |
Parked beside the A483 on the Welsh/English border (SJ 26611 21177) and followed the Offa's Dyke path up into the quarry (interesting information boards in nature reserve). Left the Offa's Dyke path when it entered the golf course and crossed the green up to the 'summit thicket'. Forced my way into the centre of the thicket (being winter it was easier) without injury. Extracted myself after some golfers had teed off and headed to the trig point - a far better summit. Then rejoined the Offa's Dyke path to retrace my steps to my starting point. | Man of Kernow1 | 22/12/2013 |
I followed the instructions from other hill baggers and dived/fought my way through brambles and evil hawthorn straight through to the other side. PS Its even more difficult with a large rucksack! The ground doesnt appear mugh higher. Blood was drawn. The golfers were quite friendly today! | Dazingdale | 02/11/2013 |
park at top of lane at Fron-Goch. Top of hill is in a bramble patch, approached from 13th tee. Take secateurs. | arranc | 02/05/2013 |
With EH and JH | JohnIvor | 24/04/2013 |
Cycled from Shrewsbury then walked up from Llanymynech. End of April, and it was pretty much still winter up there. | Normski | 27/04/2012 |
From nr end of public rd to Fron-Goch. Followed ROW then walked round summit. Went in from the 13th tee. Not much higher in the thicket. Some blood. | chrisbien | 14/03/2012 |
Attempted to reach summit, but brambles and gorse were too dense - probably got within a few metres though. | alistairpooler | 03/03/2012 |
The blackberries on the approach certainly helped with my 5 a day! Obnoxious golfers are a hazard - hiding their balls is an apt revenge for snide comments about walkers. | JohnStoneham | 29/08/2011 |
No blood but lots of brambles. | destaylor | 15/04/2011 |
petey | 11/03/2011 | |
9 am start but course already full of golfers. Trig bagged then circumnavigation of brambles + gorse to get near to top while smiling at a few foursomes. | Dugswell2 | 04/03/2011 |
Easy walk up from SJ259216. Gorse and brambles made summit identification impossible but I was in the vicinity and have the blood to show. The brambles took off my hat and extracted a glove from my pocket! | chriswatson | 03/02/2011 |
Offa Dyke walk | windridge | 04/09/2010 |
Walked up from SJ 25885 21737 but settled for the Trig point as it was a bit wet to try and get through the bushes ! Great views of the flooded fields. | heavyhorses | 29/11/2009 |
cant get to the 226m spot height. All covered in gorse and bramble. Did a circular round it instead. | DARRENG | 19/02/2009 |
Not sure whether I had done this one so visited to make sure. Golf balls and disapproving looks offer some excitement but it's an horrendous struggle through brambles (from the upper 13th tee) to claim the full ascent. | summitsup | 18/10/2008 |
pleasant summit, fine views, esp W (magical just after sunset Jan02). park at end minor rd 258217, FP NE then cross golf cse | RHW | 20/01/2002 |
Done on Offa's Dyke Path. | ngthack | 26/08/1975 |
