Parked by the reservoir at SO 08965 31163, and took the lane up to the buildings at Pen yr Allt. Then though a gateway and ascent WSW up through sheep pastures to the summit. Returned via a gate a little further north to the lane. 1.5km, with 70m of ascent. | Man of Kernow1 | 11/11/2023 |
Domed sheep pasture with trig and small reservoir, no feature actually at HP. Rain has eased and cloud lifting. With R and AC. From NE. Tried to ask permission but no response. | Denise | 04/11/2023 |
From Pen-yr-Allt over fields of pasture to summit with trig pillar and small reservoir. Good views and lunch with rainbows and sunshine. | RichardM | 04/11/2023 |
2 of 7 Parking in lay-by/roadside on the b4558 close to the bridge. From the track at maesygarn and up field line passing the kings stone | The-Z-Man | 02/08/2023 |
Easy parking by reservoir at SO 0896 3116 - Up track past superb garden & summerhouse to large cottage where friendly owner saw me pondering & came out to give directions - Over field gate opposite the summerhouse & although electric fence may have been turned off, chose to go through a break in fence to N. of trig point. Loads of parking at reservoir entrance.
Walked to farm where no one was about, but rang bell at bungalow with lovely garden and asked permission being told it was not his hill but farmer did not mind.
Just a shot walk to summit round 2 fields rolling under electric fence to avoid any shocks. Nav the same way. | mntainman | 20/04/2021 |
Parked in lay-by just short of Pen-yr-Allt Farm. Asked the nice people at the first house, who were tending their lovely vegetable garden, if ok to climb their hill. They were familiar with the bagging tradition and pointed the way, smiling, knowingly. | Pete West | 19/09/2020 |
No one at home, so carried on through gate. Great views. | PGCE | 05/02/2020 |
Cycled up to Pen Yr Allt. No one at home so went through gate at back and up around to the trig. Wonderful views. | Rob Rees | 20/11/2019 |
From north. Asked permission as others suggested. The lady said she was not the landowner but the farmer did not mind. She even showed me which gate to go through and warned me of the electric fence which she said was quite powerful. | clivevilla | 21/08/2018 |
Parked at entrance to farm (SO089309) and asked permission which was readily given - lovely people. | Ramblingpaul | 16/08/2018 |
No problem in parking at the farm. The two resident dogs were keen to come with us until retrieved by their owner | Colin Crawford | 25/06/2015 |

Visited in half-light and mist. Turned into a little mini adventure climbing several fences and gates, but got there in the end. | Alex C | 24/10/2012 |
Park on verge outside a bungalow. farm yard with barking dogs. many gates but no signs. horrendous 30 mins. trying to move west, crossing BWFs and moving N uphill to join a track with signs of timber felling, tracked vehicles, etc. Frisky bullocks and calves haring about. To the top at 16.15. Seeing the farm below, to escape the herd, I dropped down to cross an electric fence (got a sudden shock), through the yard to the road and downhill to the car. Why isn't this the recommended way up? | arranc | 07/08/2012 |
Not as polite as Des. I just crept around the back of the house. Inquisitive horse in field. | Martin R | 01/08/2011 |
Parked on the road to the NE about 400m from the top. Lady allowed me to walk through the private house land and on to the top. | destaylor | 10/06/2010 |
Footpath from A470 (opposite Lower Penwaen) was terribly over grown when l walked this. | hodder | 08/10/2009 |
