Free National Trust car park at SP 8515 0622 - Through picnic site where there is a decent map of the area & then along a wide, well-used grass track to high point which lies close to an oak tree. Continued to impressive Boer War Memorial, rebuilt in 1938 following a lightning strike that same year. (S)gerrybowes27/05/2020
Bright sunny day at Boer war memorial with impressive views over Vale of Aylesbury. From free NT carpark. HP on grass near a tree, juts back from monument. Revisit, although first log, done as part of Ridgeway. Trig gone. Continued to Beacon Hill.Denise 06/03/2020
From free NT car park, well used track to the justifiably popular hill top with monument and fine views over the Vale of Aylesbury. Levelish summit with neat grass, scattered trees and flowering gorse. High point by Oak.RichardM06/03/2020

8.6 mile circular around the forests of the Chilterns, parked Ellesborough, followed footpath to Coombe Hill (3rd time bagged), then a very round-about way to Pulpit Hill and Beacon Hill all on very good paths mainly long distance trails, the trig on Coombe Hill is sadly now destroyed. After headed home via Waddesdon Hill and Quainton Hill. Lovely clear summery weather.DanTrig09/10/2018
4th hill of 6 on the Ridgeway walk with Lesley, having detoured to climb Whiteleaf Hill, Pulpit Hill and Beacon Hill, this one was actually very close to the Ridgeway trail itself, however I still did and out and back from a bench to the rather vague high ground indicated. Wonderful views that include Beacon Hill on a lovely late sunny day. Wendover Woods would be my next and longest disappearance of the day!Dazingdale27/09/2018
With Eoin West. Parked opposite the Golf Club House and ascended steep foot path directly to the South Africa Monument. Great views including sight of Chequers. Took footpath making east then followed sunken bridleway back to our start. Great lunch break stroll.Pete West15/09/2018

The background on the web to each of the fallen men of Bucks listed on the memorial who died during the 2nd Boer War in South Africa makes sombre and insightful reading. http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Buckinghamshire/CoombeHillBoerWar.html. The Ridgeway path opening ceremony was held on here in 1973 and there is a public information film made at the time about it (on You tube ) by the Countryside Commision with galloping highwaymen and maidens driving sheep - very much an advert 'of its time.'Chris Pearson08/06/2016
