22 mile cycle ride from Chesterfield along 5 Pits Trail and back via Hardwick Hall. This one on footpath on eastern perimiter fence of STWA enclosure. Nice and sunny after the very wet weather.steveb200610/11/2023
Easily accessed, but turned it into a 6.3km walk. Lots of muddy fields, and paths don't always follow marked footpaths. Strava heatmap useful for seeing where people really walkSlopingOff29/10/2023
Boundary runs down the side of the field, high point easy to identifyVulcan07/08/2023
Short stroll from parking at bus stop. Gate to the field very overgrown!cjwilliams09/07/2023
Stayed the night before at Tibshelf Services - what an experience! So only a short cycle ride up from there to the top. Only two more Historic County Tops on this journey That I'll cycle too.pclyndes11/05/2023
Revisit. Guided walk from Teversal Visitors Centre led by Chris Thompson.Richard Gunn01/01/2023
Did the guaranteed summit of Nottinghamshire with my cousin by the 1m rule. There is a thick wooden post that identifies the Summit which the border between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire is distinguished by the metal fence very close to the wooden post. Obviously, Nottinghamshire's summit is very controversial but Newtonwood Lane is definitely the most guaranteed of the 3 to be at least 1M from the highest possible point of Nottinghamshire.DavidHiner20/03/2022
Parking opposite the entrance to the reservoir complex. Cross the road and walk back down the hill. Either enter the field through the gap between the reservoir fencing and the hedge or go slightly further to the stasrt of the footpath.moorsman15/03/2022
Easy roadside parking on Newtonwood Lane. Two minute stroll up the field. Not a significant mountaineering achievement?lenman31/03/2021
Parked at road junction, simple walk across field, then headed to Herrod's Hill.alwaysinshorts09/01/2021
With E. Lovely autumn day. After an enjoyable walk through National Trust grounds at Hardwick we took a short detour to bag Silverhill and Newtonwood Lane (Boundary). Easy bags. Preferred Silverhill for the views.Beeliner15/10/2020

After the pleasant walk to Silverhill the two in Newtonwood lane were disappointing. Plenty of rubbish dumped opposite the compound entrance.Buck15/08/2020

A bright cold morning towards the start of the coronavirus outbreak. I'm grateful that we have access to this field, where I did the usual circuit.edmundjohnson21/03/2020

Parked in lay-by at end of Newtonwood Lane and short stroll up road and across field. On way back from doing The Three Shires event.MichaelF07/04/2019
Parked at large layby on Newtonwood Lane. Into field through gap at corner then 1 min walk to highest point on boundary. Underwhelming but fun to tick another one off!Eliza10010/03/2019
Yes, very interesting - marginally more so than the nearby tump perhaps! Parked across the road from the compound entrance and took a walk round the perimeter. There may be higher ground within, but all looks man made.jonglew31/12/2018

3 of 7 on brilliant 37.3 mile bike ride. Enjoyed this one. Including Mansfield colliery, silverhill, newton Wood Lane and the boundary, robin hoods hill, Mansfield hill and welbeck collieryThe-Z-Man28/09/2018
Parked opposite compound entrance. Easy walk along edge of field.Ramblingpaul16/06/2018
Along fence to HP, then round to other side of compound for the tump.PeterD09/05/2018

A day trip down to Birmingham to collect a speaker cabinet...and 15 new hills completed on the journey :) All done by the simplest methods already given by othersthe_adam27/01/2018
Parked in layby opposite the compound: The boundary 'hill' was a doddle - very little vegetation this time of the year. Conversely the 'tump' was a battle through copious brambles and a slippery scramble.David Evans27/12/2017
Short walk from road.rhalstead02/12/2017
Parked up right outside the reservoir gate in a grim layby full of broken glass. It was fenced off all the way around so I found the highest looking piece of fence line and counted it. I don't personally think there was a great deal of difference between the ground inside or outside of the perimetersimonshrewsbury14/11/2017
Parked opposite reservoir - along footpath then into field very overgrown in summit area.briandavies01/09/2017

Same as Neil Haslewood. Holly bush really needs a trim!Kate_and_Euan29/07/2017
Parked opposite front gates to reservoir in lay-by. Footpath is down lane through kissing gate in hedge completely overrun by holly bush. This was far too prickly so walked down hill and gained access to field through fence. Walked up to perimeter fence to reservoir and then to highest point.Neil Haslewood24/07/2017
Walked up From Teversal Camping and Caravan Site along old railway line. Kissing gate in hedge completely overrun by holly bush, walked past it twice, then pint in nearby pub.dgresty08/07/2017
Acess via public footpath blocked by prickly vegetation - a large holly bush!JMLB03/06/2017
parked next to the fly-tipped junk, went thru gate and along footpath to fence.lacerated myself in brambes to bag the top. Perfect use of the day ;)keithelliott12/10/2016
Parked in layby at crest to be greeted by fly tipped freezer and other assorted rubbish. That was about as exciting as the visit to the top of Nottinghamshire got. As far as county tops go this is pretty uninspiring.stig_nest02/09/2016
Parked opposite reservoir entrance and walked on PF to boundary hedge. Then went through wood to fence high spot near mast. Very brambly and overgrown.mart079725/08/2016

Inspiring not but needed boots as very wet. Parking very easy.SS14/11/2015
On a walk with Lexi Rue, my partner's dog. We started at Glapwell, visited Hardwick park, took a wild route to Silverhill and then trail to Chesterfield road and then Newtonwood lane. Simple walk through kissing gate to fence and then along to hedge, continued on to explore high points around fence and bag Newtonwood lane tump. We then used trails and Brierley Forest track and then urban roads to finish at Sutton-In-Ashfield bus station.Dazingdale20/10/2015
I was there for the sunrise - spectacular. Horses surprised but friendly. Grass very wet (memo to self: bring boots next time).M3WDD26/09/2015
County top outing, there is space for a car or two opposite the covered reservoir and then its just a minutes walk down the road to find the kissing gate to gain access to the field on the right as you look at the site from the front gate. Also walked up silver hill as it is just two km awayWAYNE ROWLETT04/09/2015
