Solo. Newly planted crops in the field now. Late August or early September would probably be the best time to attempt this hill.Dangerous Dave08/10/2023
From the E. Easy parking by the electricity substation, around side of padlocked double gates & then along east-west tramlines over rapeseed stubble to obvious summit.gerrybowes24/08/2023
Whelly Hill from GR: NZ 45741 34290ronaldo33318/12/2022
On own. Parked on Worset Lane, minor road to E of Whelly Hill close to works. From there it is easy walk across field to obvious summit, keeping in tractor tyre marks to avoid any damage to crops. This route also keeps you hidden from farm. Had previously tried to engage with farmer about access to field but no response.Beeliner17/10/2022
P near substation - approach from NE corner of field (no Fence).ger17/09/2022
Attempted visit 2 years ago but was not right wading through crop ready to be harvested. This time, newly planted crop of winter wheat so like others before followed tractor tracks to summit. In fact I ran up tractor tacks and having realised this was not a good idea for me repeated the same mistake on the way down. Anyway minimised time in field. Parked in layby on A179 300m to the west.mntainman15/11/2021
Parked opposite Whelly hill farm and used tractor tracks to get close to top so as not to cause damage.WAYNE ROWLETT13/10/2021
From East. Followed tractor tracks up recently harvested field. 20 minsNicky C04/09/2021
Easy stroll across stubble from works to east. Last hill of weekend. Not the finest landscape or weather but nice to be out, of course.Wycombe Wanderer29/08/2021
Parked in the layby to the W. Crossed the busy road and walked E down the road. Passed the entrance to the farm and continued down to see if there was a gate or other access further down the road. Spoiler alert - there isn't. Came back to the farm entrance and walked down the N edge of the field until past the hill, then up to the top and back the same way.Wheelsy27/08/2021
From small pull-in on busy A road (NZ 4515 3436), quick up and down over stubble field. Trig rivet on water tank at the HP.jonglew06/09/2019
From the east, parked by electricity station. Tractor tramlines to top. Late evening, almost dark.PGCE24/07/2019
Tractor tracks through rapeseedmadaddo23/04/2019
In view of previous comments I parked in the minor road to the east and walked inside the hedge before heading off to the summit out of sight of Whelly Hill Farm.clivevilla10/09/2018
Approach through crop fields from access road to electricity switching station. Felt a bit like a spy as I crept across the field.mrs_ts710/06/2018
Politely asked permission at Whelly Hill Farm. Politely but firmly refused.Campbell Singer22/05/2018
Parked in widening of Hart Moor Farm lane opposite, and squelched along tractor track to summit. A great little viewpoint.Nick Down108/03/2018
From layby. Probably took me longer to cross the main road than it did to go up the hill. Tractor track went all the way up through the crop to concrete block at top.PeterD09/04/2017
Parked in layby on the main road, easy access from farm entrance. Feels very visible so ran up tractor lines to top then straight backthe_adam25/10/2016
Parked in lay-by to the west. Wandered along busy A179 and up lane towards Whelly Hill Farm. Field newly sown so access limited.Newton Maximus21/09/2016

Late evening, followed tractor tramlines to summit water tankRHW01/04/2016
Followed field edge to highest point, then shortest route to summit. Dodged between what appeared to be young kale plants. I think the concrete structure could be a water tank. Can sympathise with Aye Jimmy trying to explain hill bagging to the landowner. It's an uphill struggle.ngthack25/02/2016

Parked on the minor road to the east then across the stubble field to the summit.Dugswell231/08/2014
Parking possible in lane to Whelly Hill farm. More wheat planted, it's a short sprint up tractor tracks to low brick structure at top. The view is better from trig to East. But didn't hang around to sample it and scurried back down before farmer or his dog spotted me. 10 minutes enough to do this!nordicstar05/03/2014
Pleasant afternoon drive and ramblemcbiydw224/12/2013
There is a layby to the west of the hill alongside the A179. From here it is a short walk to the hill. However, on my visit, it was under wheat so, in sympathy with the trials of a farmer's life, I got as close as possible to the summit without damaging any of his cereals.moorsman18/08/2013
Close to busy road and highly visible farmland, so went to Whelly Hill Farm and asked permission. Farmer puzzled as to why I wanted to climb it; explained 'because it's on a list'. 'On a list? What list?' So I showed him a printed page. He knew there was a county boundary nearby - presumably the nearby masts had required planning approval?Aye Jimmy21/03/2013
Got to top by walking in tractor tracks to avoid damaging crops. Got a bit worried when farmers dog spotted me and had to race back to car before it decided to have me for lunchPetero28/07/2011
Got as close as I could without the farmer seeing me or disturbing any crops. Probably best done on a winter evening after the harvest.Nick22/06/2011
Forced my way through hawthorn hedge, then up across field (with winter wheat just coming through) to odd concrete structure on summit. Not bad for a UA top! Spotted by distant farmer.signyred28/02/2011
not bad but better views from nearby trigpoint.asbown14/03/2009
I join the list of baggers that had to be satisfied with getting as close as I could without damaging the newly sewn field. In my case this was half way down the track. Took pic of concrete structure on summit.Father Ted16/10/2008
Tricky to get to the top without damaging newly sown crop so just got as close as possible. Will try again at better time of year after harvest.chris creedy29/09/2007
