Parked in layby (the old road) by entrance to Whinstone View - From just inside entrance, through waymarked pedestrian gate on left & along track to footbridge at NZ 5537 122 - Over bridge, turned right & along path for about 30m to stile - Up along edge of field before a short climb over rough grass to the high point against fence. | gerrybowes | 05/04/2023 |
On own. As per ngthack, excellent directions thanks. Got chatting to gardener at Whinstone View who asked if I enjoyed my walk. He was surprised to learn Middlesbrough current county/UA top so close. | Beeliner | 18/10/2022 |
Parked outside Whinstone view, just off the B1292 but not shown on the map currently. Public footpath all the way. | Wycombe Wanderer | 16/10/2022 |

Parked at the entrance to Whinstone view on the B1292 and walked through the grounds to the ROW and bridge leading to the base of the hill. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 13/10/2021 |
Parked in the layby under the L in Lanangbaurgh on the OS 1:25,000 map, although I could have parked in the one further up at the start of the RoW. Path leads through the grounds of a glamping site past lodges and crosses a small stream just in front of a larger building. From here up the edge of the field to what felt like the HP, and also visited the ring contour shown on the 1:25,000 map, which is just inside the woods. Returned the same way. | Wheelsy | 27/08/2021 |
Short walk from layby to south. | rhalstead | 31/05/2021 |

As per ngthack.Excellent directions | Bramley | 14/03/2020 |
Came here after Roseberry Topping - the path from the east isn't particularly welcoming and I'd suggest you access via the holiday park. Explored all three tops, but I think the westernmost one is the highest point. | Richard | 05/01/2020 |
Parked near entrance to Whin Stone view and took PROW through grounds. Walked up east ridge over high point along field boundary south of wood and onto top of west ridge which I plumped for being the high point next to fence. Resisted temptation to go in to wood as private property though now notice there is a contour ring inside boundary. O well if later decided that is high point will have to return. For now sticking with info on hill-bagging. | mntainman | 06/12/2019 |
From loop in road to SW, as others. Footbridge easy to spot now. | jonglew | 06/09/2019 |
From the lay-by. Followed ngthack’s excellent directions through Whinstone View, then explored the three tops, including a far western top just beyond the field boundary at the western edge of the field reached by the FP after the bridge. The eastern top appears lowest, but I’m not sure whether the ridge at the southern edge of the copse on the western top, or the raised hedge st the northern edge of the copse on the far western top is higher. | Nick Down1 | 26/08/2019 |
Ran from near Captain Cook's Monument, and Cliff Rigg, then to Nunthorpe & back through Newton under Roseberry. | stever | 23/07/2019 |
Visited both bumps. | PGCE | 21/07/2019 |
Parked in layby and eventually found the correct gate with the roundel on it. The gr seems to be the western top with the eastern one at 55324 12275. Visited both anyway. | clivevilla | 10/09/2018 |
As ngthack. After crossing the little footbridge it turns into a very pleasant woodland walk. | Campbell Singer | 22/05/2018 |

As per ngthack | Mark Sims | 10/05/2017 |
From layby, along FP over footbridge and stile. Up path into woods. Went to first hillock, but second one was higher on north side of fence. 6th county top of the day, before long drive home. | PeterD | 09/04/2017 |
With Eire, Evan, Sail, Coel & Alfie. The highest point seems to be on the north side of the fence! | Dangerous Dave | 22/01/2017 |
As ngthack - thanks :) | the_adam | 10/12/2016 |
Followed good route described by ngthack. A 20 minute walk in clear weather. Solo. | bolton | 12/08/2016 |

We gave the smart wedding guests something to look at as we trooped through the posh grounds of the hotel (on the row) then up fields and step over fence. | Chris Pearson | 27/07/2016 |

From Se, signed footpath starts 15m from layby. Once across FB, path up thru copse leads to East summit which felt higher to me. 1:10k mapping has a third spot ht, on fence line due n. Hedge bank here and at west summit confuses the issue a little. | RHW | 02/04/2016 |
From camper van in loop of old B road, where I had spent a very cold night after a Redcar & Cleveland completion the day before. Go in main entrance of Whinstone View & just inside there is a gate on the left. Through this & along track past wattle fence & chalets to find the well hidden footbridge on the left. Turn right alongside stream for 50 m., then along field edge to the two hillocks. | ngthack | 25/02/2016 |
last one of the day, parked in the events centre and walked through to the start of the foot path. Reached the top just before the sun went down. | mcallmar | 28/09/2015 |
Parked easily to SE. Finally found the footpath. Its signed just inside the entrance to the Events Centre on the gate. | destaylor | 14/08/2015 |
As for Dugswell2 | arranc | 26/06/2015 |
Small pull in off the main road to the east at the start of the footpath to the north. Easy, hidden path from this to the summit. | moorsman | 03/04/2015 |
From lay-by along footpath through Whinestone View. | Newton Maximus | 02/01/2015 |
Accessed using footpath through the grounds of Whinstone View from the lay-bye on the B1292. | Dugswell2 | 31/08/2014 |
Parked in Langbaurgh Spa Centre, wandered about for a while and eventually found the footbridge. Short walk from there. Highest point next to fence. | Aye Jimmy | 10/03/2013 |
Walked up onto ridge line above the leisure complex till realised where the county boundary was! Found bridge and visited east and west hillocks. The GR on RHB site is for west hillock, not east. Still both seems same height at @100m. | nordicstar | 11/12/2012 |
As part of a walk from Roseberry Topping to Eston Nab. Possibly the most uninspiring county top of them all, and I have done Hale. | DanHolme | 31/08/2012 |
Circular walk from South of Nunthorpe. Quarry Hill, Eastfield Farm, Nunthorpe and back to car. | PaulH | 29/02/2012 |
Parked at the layby on the B1292 and walked through the Whinstone View Luxury Lodges & Spa site to gain access to the ridge beyond. Once I'd found the footbridge there was no problem. | yorkie | 27/02/2012 |
Same path up as those below. Just managed to get out of the caravan park before a huge wedding party arrived. | The Team | 08/10/2011 |
Felt like a real trespasser going through the Whinstone beauty and leasure complex but then spotted footbridge. Just required a slight diversion from the path to get to top where they is a good view of Roseberry Topping. | signyred | 25/08/2011 |
made a small circular walk from nunthorpe hall. | johnfwoolley | 17/11/2010 |
couldn't get to the east hillock as the farmers were catching rabbits with ferrets. | DARRENG | 18/09/2010 |
Through the caravan park and over the footbridge as those below. good views. | asbown | 14/03/2009 |
Access paths a little overgrown, but worth the effort - top at indeterminate point in lovely meadow on hilltop, tons of wild flowers and stunning burnet moths. Great views of Roseberry Topping. | wheresthepath | 08/07/2006 |
Parked in the layby on the road to the south and walked up through the caravan park. The western hillock looks the bigger to me but the easterly one read 1 m higher at 102m. | Father Ted | 22/02/2006 |
Whinstone View Bistro (good food reports) and Caravan Park is signed off the B1292. Follow track around edge of park and cross the footbridge. Then head uphill and admire the views of Roseberry Topping, Captain Cooks Monument and Urra Moor all towering ab | Nick | 17/01/2006 |
