The Go-ahead surprisingly has now been given in England only during Covid 19 restrictions to drive as far as you want for your exercise, but we still chose to walk from the door in Bredbury - more eco-friendly and satisfying for a 7 hr dog walk with L and the spaniels heading for Cown Edge. As on my first visit 5 years ago I oddly found myself munching a sandwich 'on the go' on the walk to the rods -2 stone pillars set in circular holes in a boulder. Nice to be heading for the empty windswept hills again.Chris Pearson15/05/2020

Roadside verge parking to W. Muddy path.jonglew23/01/2018
Had to park in almost 9 inches of water due to earlier torrential rain. Blocked the gate only for a muck spreading farmer to arrive. Luckily we hadn't set off. He was a pleasant jolly man. Moved the car and took the muddy track up to the Picking Rods. Great views north and west.Campbell Singer26/11/2017
Parked at edge of flooded road, and up muddy track. Heck knows what a picking rod is, but just about worth the walk.Minto04/11/2017

An interesting artefact. I'm not sure why it is listed as a hill though but it was a lovely autumnal evening.thenomad30/10/2017
Solo. Went out of curiosity for what it was more than Peak Bagging but since I have been there I will tick it as done.Aimless Rambler23/09/2017

2nd hill of four today starting from Hayfield on linear traverse to Glossop, climbing Matley Moor (Knarrs) back onto Pennine Bridleway and then simply following past West until meeting these curious stone objects. Had to negotiate around several black cows but they were fortunately quite benign. Lovely autumnal weather. Re-traced steps to take Cown Edge way en-route to Cown Hill.Dazingdale19/10/2015
Solo. Parked at 998909. A short 20 minute walk to this unusual 'top'. Great views of North Cheshire.bolton07/10/2015
Walked up Cown Edge way from Gun Road on the way to Cown Edge. Glorious sunny day. Great views of the high peaks.W111KYB27/09/2015
Walked up from gun road, through cow field. The sun was just starting to burn through the early morning mist.mcallmar27/09/2015
From W, by moonlight, after Cowlow, Fri eve on the way north. An Adam and Eve leap between the two pillars seems called for - maybe in daylight.RHW25/09/2015
Steady walk to the Rods whilst eating a sandwich then a sprint back to the car risking indigestion as heavy rain began appropriately to 'rod it down'. I can find no explanation on the web of these 'mysterious' man made pillars. There is however, should you be a big fan, a whole web site listing every Robin Hood named place in Britain.Chris Pearson06/08/2015
Glossop to Broadbottom over Cown Edge and Robin Hood's Picking Rods. Glorious walking in the sunshine.Jake99405/07/2015

Sunny solo walk from Broadbottom, via Charlesworth and Cown Edge bronze age cairn. The rods are very odd, appearing to have cupmarks on the sides. From here off to see Brown Low and Ludworth Intakes cairns, lovely walk back to Broadbottom.thesweetcheat19/04/2014
