Parked in Fairways, opposite the golf club entrance. Absolutely pouring down with rain, so no one interested in stopping me walk up to the highest reachable point at the south side of the compound fence. A very busy golf club. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 24/11/2022 |
Parked in Fairways, opposite entrance to golf club. Early morning, so only the green keepers to avoid. Went to highest point outside the security fence. | PGCE | 22/09/2022 |
Couldn't make it all the way to the top due to the fence around the reservoir. | paggers | 02/02/2022 |
Parked in lay-by on houghs lane and across golf course. Had a quick look around to make sure nobody watching then over the fence to lion/obelisk structure. Circled back round to car. 3 miles | The-Z-Man | 18/01/2022 |
Did a walk from London Bridge. During Lockdown so no golfers. Did a lap of the perimeter fence. No access to trig. | JK | 27/02/2021 |
Along RoW across golf course from A49. Diverted up tarmac track to edge of fenced off covered reservoir. Walked round the edge of this to get as close as possible to high point, and then continued along RoW. High point of fence is South of trig. | KeithByTheC | 15/12/2020 |
Parked in Fairways opposite Club house. I thought it was about time I did my own postcode Unitary authority top. Walked up to reputed high point on south side of security fence. I got lucky because the Openreach lads were working inside the compound so after explaining what my hobby was, to their bemusement, I was able to wander the trig point and the monument which is in need of some TLC. Solo. Great views on a wonderful November day. | bolton | 06/11/2020 |
17:30, after work in Warrington. Fresh, sunny and breezy. Easier than expected. Very nice. | Wycombe Wanderer | 06/07/2020 |
After Alvanley Cliff and Halton Castle. Parked up in Pewtersgreen cul-de-sac then went on 3 mile circular branching off fp and using trees as cover, waiting for golfers to move off. There is a tree that might prove useful when combined with logs.. Strange to have a monument totally out of bounds and then a spot height on an artificially high reservoir top. Still..what needs must... | Dazingdale | 31/05/2020 |
A second visit, two days before the course reopens following a 7 week lockdown. W. along RoW for about 200m & then up tarmac path to NE corner of enclosure; this path is used by golfers coming down from the 7th tee. Clockwise on track to high point of perimeter fence. This route is shorter than the one taken on previous visit & should ensure less contact with golfers. Excellent views of Winter Hill, Peak District, Mid Cheshire Ridge & Clwydian Hills. (S) | gerrybowes | 11/05/2020 |
My only available bagging opportunity during the lockdown (course currently closed). Headed W. along waymarked RoW for about 400m to pond & then up gentle slope to the NW corner of reservoir enclosure. Made way alongside 2m steel mesh security fencing to S. end of enclosure where high point of perimeter fence appears to be around SJ 6142 8422. The Grade 2 listed obelisk is a folly & was erected in 1874 by the Lyon family who lived with their 18 servants in nearby Appleton Hall; demolished mid-1960s. (S) | gerrybowes | 29/04/2020 |
Parked down Fairways, across the road from the barriered entrance to the golf club. Straightforward walk along a road to a storage area. Go left, behind it and you can get as close as possible to the summit, although it is behind iron railings. However, summit appears man-made and the highest natural land is easily spotted to the south of the fencing. | moorsman | 05/03/2020 |
Run out from hotel. Footpath round edge of field to the golf course, up track and along perimeter fence. Near enough for me. | Mountain Goat | 19/10/2019 |
Parked off main road. Walked through golf course to perimeter fence. Razor wire and surveillance cameras prevent legal access to the top. | Argentum66 | 09/07/2019 |
With E. Access arranged with United Utilities. Parked in Warrington Golf Club car park and walked up access road to compound to meet United Utilities workers where gate opened. Excellent (and unexpected views) from top looking W towards Mersey Estuary and coast. Impressive monument although one of the four lions at the base has seen better days. | Beeliner | 15/08/2018 |
In the dark on the way home from whitchurch vs alsager. | Longwojo | 17/02/2018 |
Used footpath then went off-piste. Got as high as possible without climbing fence and trespassing | rfoster | 20/01/2018 |
Parked roadside on A49. RoW through GC. Tracked round N and W sides of large and secure covered resr to probable natural HP on S side of compound. Then over gate into compound for the actual HP at the trig pillar and monument. | jonglew | 29/12/2017 |
Parked in 'Fairways' opposite club house. Used p/f to North to access golf course, then south up to summit. Surprisingly large number of cars on golf club car park as still very dark (7.45 am). | David Evans | 10/12/2016 |
Helped by the logs, I scaled the fence and stood by the obelisk, while golfers plied their trade below. One of the stone lions is poorly, and has stepped down from his plinth. | Nick Down1 | 12/09/2016 |
Golf course enclosed in reservoir compound. I climbed over the fence with the help of stacking some logs either side of the fence. | vegibagger | 27/07/2016 |
Walked through golf club car park and up to compound. HP outside the well fenced compound seems to be adjacent 17th tee. | Campbell Singer | 17/03/2016 |
Parked on main road opposite FP. Short stroll around compound. Tree and pile of logs useful. | mart0797 | 02/03/2016 |
From FP, then walked all way around fence. | PeterD | 26/08/2015 |
A few high points visited while in the Chester area | magirob | 30/07/2015 |
3/5 As the others quick walk up to the fence beside telecommunications tower | Fergalh | 10/07/2015 |
Managed to gain access to the monument and reservoir as a united utilities guy had opened the gates for his visit. I asked why the fence had gone up and he said , so people couldn't pollute or poison the water supply. Golfing competition was in full swing and I got asked what I was doing off the footpath. | DARRENG | 20/06/2015 |
Parked in side street opposite Warrington Golf Clubhouse. Couldn't use CC's method as seat had been moved and golfers about; but old oak in trees to east was found useful. Trig S2732 and monument dated 1874; one of the monument's four lions is lying on the ground. | Aye Jimmy | 19/06/2015 |
Not so hard. A summer seat to the south west gave the necessary leg up to get over the fence. And the bolts on the inner side allowed sufficient grip with a stiff sole for the return trip. I don't think that this clandestine entry was witnessed by any of the golfers. It may not have been necessary as the trig and monument clearly sit on artificially raised ground. | Colin Crawford | 14/03/2015 |
Left the footpath to the north and got as close as could reasonably be expected. | Newton Maximus | 17/09/2014 |
Water board have really gone to town here. No access to trig or monument. 16.00. | arranc | 25/05/2014 |
Round the fence as summit is no longer reachable, presumably due to North West Water. | SS | 29/12/2013 |
Easy parking on main road outside golf club. Stroll. No access to top. Substantial fence. | destaylor | 29/08/2013 |
As others, parked nr golf CH and used FP to gain hill. Trees and vegetation give cover to high ground. Substantial fence surrounds top. Circuited this and back our via CH car park. | nordicstar | 16/06/2013 |
The summit area is now behind a high padlocked fence. | JohnStoneham | 23/09/2012 |
From London Road via public footpath North of Golf Club, across two fairways then up the track. | adrianturner | 25/03/2012 |
very odd monument, wear chinos and a polo shirt they take you as another golfer | simon and co | 04/05/2011 |
Bagged this in the dark on the way back from a weekend in Wales. Parked in side street facing the golf club - as I drove off stopped by police because 'an area of high burglaries'. Got even more suspicious when I answered their question'what you been doin | Martin R | 30/01/2011 |
Stopped off on the way to Dad's | stever | 22/01/2011 |
A brief stop off on my way to Liverpool to collect my son. Can not find anything about this monument on Google which is unusual. It is a great thing to greet you on a low lying County Top. | Father Ted | 16/12/2010 |
Amazing idea to construct a monument in 1874 on top of a reservoir! I wonder what date the trig point was? Great views for such a low height & the golfers were too posh to notice a solitary 'bagger'!! 1 lion unfortunately beheaded. | signyred | 05/09/2010 |
As Jason Leon approach to this strange but pleasant summit which also has a trig point near the monument. Lovely dry sunny October day. | Dugswell2 | 07/10/2009 |
Monument with four lions on top of covered reservoir.
Approached from A road via public footpath to north east.
Excellent views of mid cheshire ridge, winter Hill and the clywd hills. | PeteF | 23/09/2009 |
Parked opposite the enterance to the golf club, then it,s a 5 minute walk to the top. decent views for a small top and a nice lion statue. | The Team | 13/04/2009 |
parked on side street and walked through golf course car park, 1 section of resr railing broken so no problems with access, good views. | asbown | 27/02/2009 |
Improbably grand looking monument on top of covered reservoir on Warrington Golf Course | webmaster | 08/02/2009 |
Parked on grass verge just opposite RoW on main road - golfers didn't look my way. | agentmancuso | 24/05/2008 |
out and back from roadside | Rhayader_wander | 25/05/2005 |
There was a big hole in the reservoir fence (right hand end from golf club house) when we were there. Nice surprise at the top - monument surrounded by lions. | wheresthepath | 16/04/2005 |
