Gill’s route. Track beyond turning circle looks freshly cut and is very obvious/easy to gap in first deer fence. ATV thereafter is indistinct to the point of invisibility but easy enough to second derelict deer fence. Follow this up until joins new deer fence which needs to be climbed and just a short walk to the top from there.StueyB18/04/2024
As per Gill.Track after the fence pretty wet and difficult to follow under a light snow cover.Couple of ravens popped over from Ben A`an summit on the scrounge.ARM24/02/2024
From good parking at NN 523064. Track to NN 51217 08238 where fork right (uphill beside forest). Ends NN 5098 0859 after which it is deep heather and rough goingcarole engel17/06/2023
Wet & cloudy. Route as described by Gill. With mntainman.Dangerous Dave05/01/2023
Gill's route (Thank you!) from 523064, through gate in deer fence and round Meall Gainmheich, Stob an Lochan and Meall Reamhar. Detour to Sron Armailte on the way back was fraught with fallen trees and bottomlesss morasses, not worth the effort.TRG31813/04/2022
Warm and sunny day though quite hazy. Perfect for lazing around on the summit. Went up via Gill's route. Met no-one on the hill but there were other cars parked at the foot of the track. Could see the masses on the summit of Ben A'an.Fife Walking26/03/2022

From layby at NN522064, then followed track up through forest, left at first fork, then straight on to turning circle (ignoring left fork downwards near quarry), continuing to turning circle at NN510085, the on increasingly over-grown track to forest edge and through the old fence lines, headed more or less due N, climbing new deer fence and ascending from the SE to summit, descended SW to gate in deer fence at NN507091, from which intermittent old track leads back to the forest edge and track back downkdbennett24/10/2021
Walked up Ben A'an track to grid ref 506078 where a solid track takes off to the right (not on OS map), followed this up until met another track coming in from the right. Followed to the left uphill, kept going over a bridge (past where a muddy ATV track turned off to the left) and up to another junction. Turned left at the zig zag onto a track through the newly planted wood. Came to a junction where could have gone straight on and climbed steeply up, or turn right and get onto the ridge. We turned right path petered out but not far to clearing. Then went through a fence and picked up an ATV track for a bit, then cross countried the final km through the heather to the summit. Descended down towards a deer fence and off over the rough ground to Ben A'an the down the main Ben A'an pathJulieB31/12/2019
Parked at 522064 (9:10) and used Gill's route, well described by her. The left fork after the turning circle is at 51253 08313. The ATV track is very indistinct higher up but the gate is at 50750 09135. Very cold clear still day with wonderful views to snowy peaks. Finish 12:25dbb19/11/2019
Followed Gill's route to Meall Gainmheich (excellent description Gill), taking a wee detour up Soon Armalite (following the rusting deer fence described by others). Then across the muck and heather to Stob an Lochain and Meall Reamhar. Didn't meet a soul ... until Ben A'an. OMG, the summit was silhouetted with hordes of hikers and day trippers. The path down to the car park is very good though, and also got a lift back to our car at 523064. About 3hrs for the round.summitter27/09/2019
PGCE is right: there is a very easy way up this hill without having to endure any crowds. Start at 523064, good parking. A logging road leads up through oak woods to a fork; follow the main track left up the hill into forestry. Continue to a felled area then take a fork right onto an older track (before main track descends to a bridge). Follow the track above the Allt Ardcheanacrochan to a turning circle; the track goes on, more overgrown. At the next fork take the L branch (not the steeper and more obvious R branch) which goes on over a bridge; looks unpromising but has a hard surface, if a little overgrown. It continues to the lower forest fence and becomes a very overgrown ATV track. This curves up over grassy terrain, through another fence, then back to the river, then finally becomes indistinct up to the gate in the upper unmapped fence. You're on your own after that, but it's a short sharp climb to the top. Good views. Route is visible on Google earth, the OS has yet to catch up.Gill05/07/2019
Horrible. Free parking for two cars, 30m S of junction at NN506070. Up the steep Ben A'An path with the babbling hordes, discarded tissues and dog poo bags aplenty. The terrain from Ben A'An to the summit is VERY tough going and pathless, so bee-lined it as near as I could, so as to minimise the pain. Gate through deer fence at about NN507092. Slightly easier in descent back from summit, with gravity assist. At summit, scanned around for an easier line, but unable to suggest anything better - you could always wait until the 'pioneers' have forged a path....Isbjorn23/06/2019

Tough route from Ben Aan. With Brian and Bob. Lovely summit vista. Descended due south to reach forest track over deer fence.Play2End28/10/2018
After Ben A'an(qv). Heading out towards the old fence reveals a path that descends into a little valley. That's enough for most people- the rest is pathless and it was an arduous walk, via the gate in the new deer fence, to the HP. It didn't seem so hard going back, maybe because it's downhill, maybe because we avoided the thickest heather. With Pete. An Alcatraz to Ben A'an's San Francisco (though we remembered the escape route).pwheeler03/06/2018
Last Marilyn in Section 1. Took path to Ben A'an. At about NN506078, turned right on path. This climbs, then drops to cross a stream and soon comes to a junction (major track coming from right - maybe a simpler way up?). Turn left, and track becomes an ATV track. Beyond forest, over boggy ground, to reach gate at about NN508092. Then relatively easy slopes to summit. Boggy ground, but not much heather bashing.PGCE12/05/2018
The first fine day of the new year. A clockwise circuit from Ben A'an CP: Ben A'an (first visited in September 2002), Meall Reamhar, Stob an Lochain, Meall Gainmheich. Lots of people walking up Ben A'an and enjoying the views to brilliantly snow-clad Arrochars and Ben Lomond. Not a soul on the rest of the walk. Deep snow in places, a climb over the new deer fence by Meall Reamhar, although I returned through the gate. On the way back, I drifted too far east, and had to flounder through a forestry quagmire to get back to the Ben A'an track.Nick Down106/01/2018

Lovely walk up forest tracks until the last 1km bog fest!Louise05/11/2017
Parked in small layby across from the Pay/display. Left the mobs on Ben A'an and took an intermittent path eastwards towards deer fence and gate then up to summit. Confusing terrain, would be tricky in mist.AndrewFinnimore09/05/2017
Rough going from Ben A'an to the deer fence gate, but on the way back followed a quad bike track down from the gate. This joined a forest road, from which a path led down to the Ben A'an path at a path crossingPeteN22/11/2016

Very wet and boggy up the temporary path to Ben Aan. Found a good route across from there using traversing path, then pretty much along line of deer fence to gate. Then straight up.jenx18/12/2015
With Jen up the v muddy Ben A'an diversion path. Park on side of road where route crosses from the £3 Venue CP. After A'an carried on to Gainmheich with other tops as possible. New deer fence has handy gate at GR 50730 09133. Good lines along this fence to follow.nordicstar18/12/2015
Normal path to Ben An was closed, so up a very muddy diversion route, then on to Meall GainmheichGallovidian20/11/2015

Another marilyn done. Great wild country but it was a slog through deep, wet snow sitting atop heather.thenomad21/02/2014
Ben A'an path then struggle upwards through heather etc. More obvious way becomes clear once at top. View rather hemmed in by bigger neighbours. Better approach may be from EThearlaichdubh30/11/2013
Starting at small car park at Loch Achray, through some forest, climbing Ben A'an then to peak. Return route same way.eddiegrice29/06/2013
Via Beinn A'an car park (£3) and path. Followed an old FC boundary fence on from east of Beinn A'an to summit through rough and trackless heather.Topographer5708/04/2013

From Ben A'An car park. Passed probably 100 people on first climb to Ben A'An. Into mist using GPS. Deep heather, many fences some old some new. To a minor top and fence going east. One footprint in peat. To top at 16.15. No cairn. No view - mist.arranc29/03/2005

With: hb sb ab; Followed the standard tourist route up on to Ben A'an massing hordes on the way up. Once we had taken in the view we headed NE to Meall Gainmheich across mixed ground. We were the only ones to do so. Everyone probably thought we were mad!Ian Baines27/05/2001
