Layby S-bound at NJ 003409 with very good path to summitcarole engel11/05/2022
Started from small layby on east side of the A940 about quarter of a mile south of the high point on the road. There is a gap in the gorse where the fence has been flattened at this layby and once you step over the fence you are immediatly on a good track in the heather that more or less goes all the way to the top of the hill.Jossker12/12/2021
Solo. Chilly wind. Some snow on the high Cairngorms.garbo110315/10/2021
Via the excellent path through the heather from the lay-by to the SW.Nick Down102/09/2021

Wanted a longer walk than straight up and down. Parked in clearing in wood at 001432. Followed edge of wood to ridge and picked up track in cut heather. Followed to summit and then took warn track to descend SW flank. Returned to car using old military road. This has largely been reclaimed into the hillside but can pick out the route because the cut into the hill side is easy to see. Interesting but next time I will dump a bike for the return!sarahk16/05/2021
From lay-by to SW. Knee deep snow and heather for 50% of walk to top. Had a good wander around summit area.CJM12/02/2020

Christmas Day en route to family for Christmas. Beautiful winter skies. Path from layby to summit trig.kinraddie25/12/2018
An easy walk from the SW lay by. There is now a very clear and good path all the way up, though it gets a little faint near to the fence. It starts right by the green dust bin, you wriggle past some gorse bushes and there it is. Great views.Gill23/09/2018

With Dave Roeder. From layby to SW on A940 (15:05) small path led straight up most of the way then disappeared. Heather not long so fairly easy. Dry. Finish 16:00.dbb23/04/2018
On a mild windy morning with GHC. No interest here, move on.Play2End28/10/2017
4/5 Marilyn. From Layby on A940 like others. Short steepening pull up a hill thick in heather and moss. Glad it was dry for the 10 days before made easier and drier crossing.N.Morters05/05/2017
From layby on A940. Dry and sunny but cold NW wind. No snow or frozen ground. Clear views. With MLesH19/02/2017

With Francis. From Dava along disused railway. Ascended and dscended eastern flank, returning via halfway hut on the railway line.raffemeister22/06/2016
Up easily from SW from layby of North side of road. Good tracks through the heather from here that lead to first a broken fence then trig. Top as such is @30m SE of trig on featureless heathery lumps. Trig is undoubtedly the best high point.nordicstar16/01/2016

Here for the trigpoint, TP:UK log: Blimey that's the hardest 1km I've walked for a while, a real heart pounder. No path, holey heather and lots of snow, seem to take a age to get to the top. Charlie had to have a wee carry every now and then as he struggled in the deep heather. Fantastic view though, so well worth it!thejackrustles28/12/2014
Easily up western slopes from A940AndrewFinnimore27/02/2014

Solo run. From the layby to the SW. A few sections of path through the heather. Ground to the SE does seem a fraction higher than the trig pt.amswanston15/12/2013
Solo. From layby at NJ007400. Walked N on road a short distance before going past some sheep pens to the old road that runs a little to the east of the present road. Followed old road northwards - it's rather wet - and then climbed up hillside to trig point over heathery ground. Went SE to spot height of 456m which is the highest point. No cairn. Lots of heather and all rather flat. I headed down SSE partly to void the wet of the old road and partly to see what the Dava Way is like. I followed it to Dava along the trackbed of an old railway line - mostly nice and dry.pwbellarby14/06/2013
from the old AA box long disused railway line. A good afternoonNozzer18/02/2013
Windy but a short heather walk.bolton11/02/2013
From A940 road summit. None of the paths shown on the map existed but patches of muirburn made the going quite easy. With worsening weather, view from summit was little better than from A940 except over Dornoch Firth. About an hour after I finished the heavens opened. Short Eared Owls flying at Lochdorbpwheeler23/06/2012
Only 35 minutes up and down from the Grantown to Dava road. Deep heather and bog most of the way. No obvious summit point other than the trig which appeared level with the surrounding heather.alasdaircairns23/01/2009
