Round of Creag Meagaidh & surrounding hills from Aberarder with Shaky on an overcast but clear day. Fairly brutal ascent of Carn Liath, but then a fine circuit over the various tops westwards, gradually gaining more height to Stob Poite Coire Ardair. Dropped to the Window & then on to Creag Meagaidh. Took the direct route back over Puist Coire Ardair & the other tops. As we wandered the last bit back to the start, a squall swept up Loch Laggan. A large rumble of thunder had me running for the car while Shaky scoffed at my caution. A flash of lightning hitting a fence post about 200m away & a colossal simultaneous clap of thunder had me bent double & Shaky falling face down on the muddy path!NotReallyABagger25/08/1997

First day of our mountain walking holiday. Started from Aberarder, the classic approach through the open birch forest, turning to the mountain coire and the window. This was perfect for walkers today, full of snow, packed but easy to walk on. With sunshine and a few fluffy clouds the view was stupendous- first from the plateau summit, then from our lunch stop on a rock rib above the corniced Coire Ardair. In the afternoon, we went over the Munros/tops on the N side of Coire Ardair. With Pete.pwheeler21/05/1994

Cairngorm Club weekend meet based at Newtonmore. With fellow club member. From car park near Aberarder Farm along footpath to Coire Ardair. Quite a lot of old railway sleepers have been put down on the path, especially on boggy parts. Has allowed immediately adjacent areas to regenerate. Climbed Rayburn's Gully with good crampon snow throughout. About half was done without belaying. Cornice had partly fallen away, and another formed so there was a crevasse-like fissure between them. We were able to climb over the lip into the fissure, and moving horizontally in the fissure before emerging easily on to the plateau. Walked across to the summit of Creag Meagaidh, mostly on snow. Went over to the summit of Stob Poite Coire Ardair and descended by the Window where there was much snow. A beautiful day with blue skies.pwbellarby06/03/1993

A wild camp on the wintry shores of Lochan a Choire with Tony and Mark. Under blue sky and dazzling snowy hills after an overnight drive walked in up the normal path with huge packs to enjoy a winter camp by the lochan. Overnight a storm raged and blasted the tents ,the ice on the loch broke up. Warm in my new Phoenix sleeping bag-still using it in 2016 (32 years on!) Awoke to low cloud and drizzle. Abandoned hopes of the top and plodded back to Tony's e car which as expected needed pushing to start. Continued to Torridon for New Year.Chris Pearson28/12/1984

Alone. A circuit of Beinn a' Chaorainn and Creag Meagaidh along with various tops. From Beinn a' Chaorainn, where the mist had descended, to Bealach a' Bharnish where I came out of the mist for a few minutes. To Creag Meagaidh (hail storm, wind rising), continuing over Mad Meg's Cairn to Meall Coire Choille-Rais. A little further SE on a rocky point the mist lifted for a superb view of Loch Laggan. Minutes later I was in mist again. To An Cearcallach. The wind was now very strong - I could hardly stand on the summit rocks. There was much cold rain as I continued to other tops and down to the road.pwbellarby21/06/1980

1985-1986-1987 Climbed Creag Meagaidh, it's two Munro outliers to the east of it, and various tops one Autumn day with Dad. Thinking back, it seems difficult to justify the additional Munros to the east, the main differentiation being distance rather than any kind of drop.spstrachanblank
