Dropped Hannah early at airport so started from Visitor Centre at 0630. Revisit to marilyn but added 4 further hills this time. Horrendous conditions, saw nothing, forgot phone/GPS and had a thigh deep burn crossing. Prided myself on navigation with tatty map and defective compass. | lordtonult | 01/07/2023 |
From Muirshiel Country Park, crossed concrete bridge ~300m NW of the visitors' centre. Lots of good tracks initially, keeping ~250m N of Raith Burn; crossed White Grain Burn at NS 2884 6310 after which a direct line to here. On to Hill of Stake, West Girt Hill, High Corby Knowe, Long Hill, Box Law, Windyrise, Capet Law, Misty Law and return for a 17k round over rough heathery ground after Stake. One saving grace was nearly frozen ground, otherwise would have been a very boggy round. | jonglew | 07/12/2022 |
From Muirshiells, along track, over bridge and then fairly direct. On to Misty Law, via Totterie Law. Direct route back. | PGCE | 14/09/2022 |
A circuit from the park office of Hill of Stake via Queenside, West & East Girt and Misty Law and back by the Raith Burn. Plenty of heather, bog and tussocks but nothing drastic. | sclater | 28/04/2022 |
Heavy rain, high winds and fast flowing burns made this walk a bit of an unexpected adventure. We followed a recommended route pinned up the the Visitor Centre noticeboard. From the Visitor Centre to the barytes mine then up to Hill of Stake, West Girt Hill, East Girt Hill and Misty Law. We then made the schoolboy error of heading NE directly back to the Visitor Centre, not realising that the bridge over the River Calder was no longer present. Once we realised this and because the Raith Burn was in full turbulent spate we had to clamber back up its southern bank for a couple of km before finding a narrow enough section to try and wade across thigh deep. Once this proved impossible we re-surfaced, walked upstream even higher and found a spot to leap from. We eventually made it back to the car - wetter, colder and wiser! | summitter | 07/02/2022 |

From Muirshiel country park visitor centre. Up on rhs of the deepish valley to the saddle to North of Hill. Then followed fence line over hill of Stake & all the way down to Misty Law. | vegibagger | 13/10/2021 |
1 of 3: From Muirshiel. Contoured above the Raith Burn but long grass made it unpleasant. Then south from the break in the fence. With Karen. | ChrisR | 23/07/2021 |
From Muirshiel via old barytes mine and Hill of Stake. Continued round to Misty Law. Beautiful, warm day. Bone dry underfoot. | vuirich | 07/06/2021 |
From Muirshiel via old mine. Skirted east of Hill of Stake to fence and soggy but useful path. With Gordon. | Campbell Singer | 13/05/2021 |
Solo. From Muirshiel Visitor Centre. After ascending Hill of Stake via the old mine. Followed the fence to East Girt Hill and then on to Misty Law. Descended NE over heather and then followed a narrow path at the top of the steep slope above Raith Burn. After some weeks of dry weather burn crossing not a problem, bogs likewise. | pwbellarby | 30/04/2021 |
From Muirfauldhouse after Misty Law. | bjewing | 10/04/2021 |
misty law third visit, east girt hill second visit, high corby knowe, long hill, west girt hill, hill of stake second visit from the CP at muirshiel country park. | robertphillips | 23/09/2020 |
Circuit from visitor centre carpark. | Grinner | 01/08/2020 |
From Muirshiel out to mine then bit of a path followed by heather bashing until final pull to Hill of Stake. Path of sorts from there past East Girt Hill right on to Misty Law. Descended across heather to junction of Raith Burn and River Calder - crossed both easily and up to car. | SS | 12/07/2020 |
10 mins from the Marilyn. | Play2End | 22/03/2020 |
Parked at Lochwinnoch cemetery at about 9am walked up steep single track road past Linthills. Keep walking up this road until it ends at a private gate. Climb over wall here on right, then walk uphill through fields on very faint track. Higher up the track improves but never great. Up through isolated moorland eventually brings you to Misty Law on your left, so hopped up here, then navigated through thick cloud and very boggy ground to East Girt Hill then Hill of Stake which has trig point. Then NW over the 493m Burnt Hill (not Burnt Hill to west with trig point) before dropping N and then NE to get to the mine, and walked all the way back to the car via the mine track and public road. 15.3 miles, 6.5 hours - tough going at times! | mattymatt | 23/09/2019 |
Bog trot from West Girt Hill. With Gavin. | Dangerous Dave | 09/06/2019 |
Car park by Visitor Centre at Muirshiel Country Park & up Misty Law. From Misty Law, over barbed wire fence & then followed path over 4 or 5 hillocks to the summit stones. Descended ENE, crossing burn by a series of small waterfalls at 288631. Following recent dry weather, River Calder easily crossed by corner of wood. (S) | gerrybowes | 15/05/2019 |
A loop to the Hill of Stake, East Girt Hill & Misty Law from Muirshiel Country Park. | Chris Mac | 25/08/2018 |
A round of eleven hard won hills from the road to the west. Terrain a nightmare and twelve hours of non stop rain before leaving turned it into a quagmire. The rain continued all the time I was out. I don't want too many days like this! | thenomad | 20/11/2017 |
A short diversion from Hill of Stake. | Chris Peart | 15/11/2017 |
After Misty Law in mist, the over Hill of Stake, cross country- very hard going, down to Loch to N, and ultimately road and long long walk back to Lochwinnoch train station | Thearlaichdubh | 08/10/2017 |
11th hill of 13 today on an epic route from Largs to Lochwinnoch climbing Jock's Hill, Rigging Hill, Paton's Hill, Feuside Hill, Irish Law, Windyrise, Box Law, Long Hill, High Corby Knowe, West Girt Hill and Stake of Law continuing down the fence-line in a S Easterly direction to the summit. | Dazingdale | 22/09/2016 |
Parked at the end car park in Muirshiel Country Park then took the track towards the mine to cross the River Calder at the second bridge where I then headed directly for Misty Law which involved a steep crossing of the Rathy Burn. Then onto East Girt Hill, contoured around HoS to West Girt Hill before having a break at Hill of Stake where there was a lovely cooling breeze on a very warm sunny day. A direct return route to the bridge via an easier/higher crossing of the Rathy Burn then on to bag the pretty Windy Hill before returning to the car, a bit hot and dehydrated. | Dugswell2 | 01/06/2016 |
Muirshiel VC - mine - WG Burn - Wee Burn - up fence. Back over pt 473, mine and VC. Never again. | chrisbien | 23/05/2015 |
on the way to hill of stake | JamiePhillips27 | 21/04/2015 |
Completed off train from Lochwinnoch with bikes. Ascended via Murshiel VC to end of mine track, dragged bikes over moor to summit via Hill of Stake, pathless and tiring. Good views all round. Faint, boggy path on descent, sometimes rideable to Misty Law, then picked up track down to Lochwinnoch. | quadbarrel | 21/03/2015 |
