From Bruce's stone car park on a Two day walk wild camping on the shores of Loch Enoch. Following the Gairland burn route up to Loch Neldricken from here the route took in Craig Neldricken, Craignaw, Craignairny and Dungeon hill before descending to Loch Enoch to pitch the tent. Day Two involved climbing Mullwarchar and Hoodens hill returning via the West side of Loch Enoch where I was able to follow a faint path to the Buchan burn and onto the ruin of Culsharg Bothy finally heading south to the car park. Seventeen mile with 4350ft of ascent. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 13/07/2022 |
From Bruce's Stone CP out on the Gairland Burn path. Crossings impossible so was restricted to Criag Neldricken. Path extends all the way past the Murder Hole to Loch Enoch although I cut up before then. Back same way. | SS | 11/05/2022 |
From Mullwarcher along the E side of the loch. Then back to tent at Loch Valley via the W side of Loch Arron and the intriguingly named Murder Hole. There's a track heading down the glen to the W of Ewe Rig. | sclater | 20/03/2022 |
From Glen Trool car park. Up and over Black Gairy to Buchan Hill -> Meaul, then on to here keeping west of Ewe Rig and Loch Arron. Rough pathless ground all the way. Diverted up to Bennan on the return. | jonglew | 25/06/2021 |
Some outstanding weather for this route around some fine Galloway Hills from car park for Bruce's stone. Benyellary, the Merrick, then descent of E ridge and on to Craig Neldricken (visited the 3 tops with 550m contours). Continued to climb Craignairny, and then Dungeon Hill, camping a short distance from the summit. Traversed to climb Meaul and on to Buchan Hill and descent SW to join track and short distance to start point. | RobertP | 01/10/2020 |
Bruce's Stone parking area at end of public road at NX 4158 8044 & down to Buchan Bridge - Up Garland Burn path which continues along W. & N. side of Loch Neldricken - Left path at 442830 & picked up a good trod at 4426 8319; this was easily followed through long grass to 446837 - Up S. ridge to summit outcrop. Continued to Craignairy, Dungeon Hill & Craignaw. (S) | gerrybowes | 16/07/2020 |
We took the tourist route to Merrick, detouring to Bennan and scampering over Bennyellary on the way. Returned to the Bruce Stone carpark via the rugged Rig of Loch Enoch, taking in Craig Neldricken and Buchan Hill before descending to the ferocious Buchan waterfalls below. | summitter | 06/07/2020 |
2/6 Buchan Hill, Craig Neldricken, Mullwharchar, Dungeon Hill, Craignairny and Craignaw on Donald Completion Day with Ian, Caroline and Barry. Great 10 hour day, and successful project. | nickywood1 | 14/07/2019 |
6th top of 11 on an Epic traverse from the Forest drive near Loch Riecawr to the Minor road from Caldons near Glen Trool, climbing Macaterick, Hoodens Hill, Mullwharcher, Dungeon Hill and Craignairny and continuing to this top, climbing three separate knolls to be sure. Now the hard battle against the chilling wind now bringing biting rail to get back to the col with Craignairny, sheltering behind three boulders to eat my lunch before continuing to profile round to reach the Craignaw ridge, Craignaw my next target... | Dazingdale | 11/10/2018 |
From Glen Trool car park up the Gairland Burn, easy walking on east side of Loch Neldricken on sand and then up the south ridge in glorious conditions. This is the time of the year for this trek as the grass has not recovered and made easier after a dry spell. 1st of 6 for the day. Headed for Craignairny. Solo. | bolton | 07/05/2018 |
