Strolled across the top of this one while walking the wind farm track back to Craigdarroch while completing the round of Grahams/Donald's around Afton Reservoir. Turbine WTG3 pretty much marks the spot.Jossker14/05/2022
From Glen Afton car park out by wind farm over Black Hill to Struther's Brae then followed excellent firebreaks over to Milray Hill with only one downed tree easily bypassed. Back same way.SS26/04/2022
From Blackcraig Farm for a round of Blackcraig Hill, Blacklorg Hill, Meikledodd Hill, Alwhat, Alhang, Windy Standard, Black Hill and Struther's Brae.rhalstead17/04/2022
Roadside verge parking 450m back from Craigdarroch (NS 6324 0694), could've been closer to the WF road but someone had nicked that spot. Took WF road for ~1300m then peeled off SW for a direct line to the top, crossing unmapped WF roads, so a longer but gentler approach could be made. The top has been flattened a little as there's a turbine almost at the summit. On to Milray Hill, Auchincally Hill and Yarngallows Knowe for a 12.5k round of Nith and Dee Catchment hills.jonglew11/01/2022
From Black Hill on Glen Afton round, top now occupied by Wind Turbine.PeterD12/10/2021
Approx 40km round from Glen Afton, starting near Craigdarroch. Direct ascent to Yarngallows Knowe, then Struther's Brae, Black Hill (also visiting tops similar in height to the summit), Black Hill, Wedder Hill, Millaneoch Hill, Keoch Rigg, Moorbrock Hill N Top, Moorbrock Hill, Dodd Hill (+ nearby mounds of similar height), Mid Hill of Glenhhead, camped near summit off Alhang. Continued short distance to Alhang summit, then Ewe Hill N Top, Ewe Hill, Alwhat, Meikledodd Hill, Blacklorg Hill, Cannock Hill and Craigbraneoch Hill, descending to cross bridge at Craigdarroch. Rain for much of route, and wet underfoot.RobertP22/08/2020
2nd hill of 13 today, following the fenceline after Yarngallows Knowe then veering off to climb up the turbine track to the top; hardstanding tarmac covers the summit so nearest natural point on the edge. Continuation Wnw for Auchincally hill via the marked cairn..Dazingdale22/09/2019
5th and last of the day. Wind farm tracks have ruined this once wilderness. Future generations will look at these landscapes the same as we currently do when in old mining areas. Back to the car park at the water works. Solo.bolton05/05/2019
Round of Craigbranreoch, Cannock, Black Hill, Struther's Brae and Yarngallows Knowe. Easy through the industrial estate to turbine 3. Great views of reservoir through the turbine blades.Thearlaichdubh12/04/2019
Parked in front of large green prefab in Craigdarroch at 632064 (OK with farmer) - N. up road for 300m or so to start of wind farm track - Along track to remains of a small wooden hut at 625057 & then up over tussock, partly along ATV track, to the most southerly turbine No.1 - Followed track to summit which lies alongside Turbine No.3. Continued to Black Hill & Windy Standard. (S)gerrybowes23/01/2019
Loop of Glen Afton from water works (car park closed but plenty room) taking in Black Hill, Struther's Brae, Windy Standard, Alhang, Alwhat, Meikledodd Hill, Blacklorg Hill, Cannock Hill and Craigbraneoch Hill. Excellent walking though lots of new wind farm stuff (restricted currently as construction site).SS14/07/2018
An evening bonus summit after a circuit of the tops around Windy Standard. Drove from Afton CP to a pull in on the wind farm track leaving the Afton Water road a mile or so North. A haul up the hillside, past turbines and through patches of churned peat was recompensed by a deep red and gold sunset just as I reached the turbine top of Struther's Brae.Nick Down124/03/2018
