Tracks lead almost to the top now. | Tisteln | 17/08/2023 |
From access road SW side sub station. Security not happy. Meikle Hill, Windy Standard and Benbrack first. Then dropped down due E to a fenceline and followed that through the trees, crossing a new WF road ~100m before the fence furns due S and I carried on along a break up to here to complete the Nith and Dee catchments. On the return took a convoluted route following soggy fire breaks and forest streams to regain the WF road ~450m S of the big quarry (NS 5284 0682) and then keeping to E side of sub station to meet B741 ~500m NE of the car thus avoiding walking past the security man. | jonglew | 16/01/2022 |
2nd of 6 hills today, before the long drive back to Nottingham. I took the hire car to then end of a forest track marked as a disused quarry, then along the rougher ride continuing but then veering off to access the open end of the hill, investigated the Grid ref for the summit given and the 510m contour to the North. Southern summit is higher but no obvious signs of the mast. I then headed Sw on a forest ride then West before heading for Wee Benbrack's summit... | Dazingdale | 22/04/2019 |
After Meikle hill, following forest roads to end E of summit, then 500 m up through trees and tussocks. Looked at both hp's but southerly one is higher. Mast hasn't regrown. On to Wee Benbrack. | Thearlaichdubh | 09/04/2019 |
Large parking area by entrance to forest tracks/substation at 517081 - Forest track to burn & firebreak at 548055 - NW up side of burn & at top of firebreak SSW along another firebreak for about 300m to summit. Summit now marked with a patch of loose stones, the only evidence of former mast. Continued to Benbrack & Windy Standard. (S) | gerrybowes | 12/12/2018 |
From sub station (security were very friendly) taking forest track to quarry to east of Prickeny Hill. Easy fb to summit. Tougher down to another fb where it eased then up other side over tussocks to Benbrack. Struggled to new scar but then picked up vague path to Windy Standard. Returned by Benbrack Burn to forest track and out. | SS | 30/03/2018 |
From electrical substation along track towards source of the Nith then up through trees. Severe wind chill and occasional snow showers. Mast at summit has departed although some evidence exists, eg, metal fiiting and patches of gravel near anchor points | cjo | 17/03/2018 |
