Logged Descriptions  (logged by 32 users)ByDate of Ascent
Limited verge parking at start of new road to Moorbrock (NX640953). Moorbrock. If you take the first track after the residences on W side of Poltie Burn (unmapped), you can still get onto the track around Green Hill via some wide firebreaks which snake up towards it, then a short brush through the trees. ATV track to Moorbrock Hill, Alwhat, then new wind farm road over Keoch Rig, Windy Standard, Trostan Hill, Dugland on old wind farm roads, back to Windy Standard, down new wind farm road to Hags of Poljargen, then scree and pathless deep grass to Mid Hill of Glenhead, An Tx and deep grass on to Dodd Hill. Descended W on obnoxious veg to get to new wind farm road ASAP, which led back to the entrance gate to the Moorbrock estate.Isbjorn15/06/2022
Moorbrock, its North Top, Mid Hill of Glenhead and Dodd Hill from the entrance to the wind farm between Craigengillan and Strahanna. Easy, tranquil walking, with wind farm tracks between the North Top and Mid Hill and on descent from Dodd Hill. Met a fox and a herd of roe deer at unusually close quarters near the start and end of the walk. Deer fence on Dodd Hill negotiable at the corner between the summit with its crosses and the highpoint shown on OS mapsNick Down119/03/2022
Parked at start of new wind farm (NX 6405 9528). Took WF road for 1.33km before cutting across WSW to pick up a logging road for Craigengillan Hill. Cut back to Moorbrock to pick up a good track that went round Green Hill and almost all the way up to Moorbrock Hill then on to its North Top -> Keoch Rig -> Mid Hill of Glenhead. From there followed fenceline (which morphs into a new deer fence) to here - deer fence had to be negotiated for the HP. Returned to road at Strahanna Bridge (this last leg over some very poor ground to NX 6477 9741 where a good unmapped vehicle track was unexpectedly encountered) for a 19km round.jonglew05/09/2021
Approx 40km round from Glen Afton, starting near Craigdarroch. Direct ascent to Yarngallows Knowe, then Struther's Brae, Black Hill (also visiting tops similar in height to the summit), Black Hill, Wedder Hill, Millaneoch Hill, Keoch Rigg, Moorbrock Hill N Top, Moorbrock Hill, Dodd Hill (+ nearby mounds of similar height), Mid Hill of Glenhhead, camped near summit off Alhang. Continued short distance to Alhang summit, then Ewe Hill N Top, Ewe Hill, Alwhat, Meikledodd Hill, Blacklorg Hill, Cannock Hill and Craigbraneoch Hill, descending to cross bridge at Craigdarroch. Rain for much of route, and wet underfoot.RobertP22/08/2020
Water of Ken parking area at NX 6621 9938 - Track up to Nether Holm where friendly farmer directed me through yard to a caravan, alongside of which was the first of the wooden crosses on the 'Stations of the Cross' walk - Through small wood & up alongside wall, passing the remaining 13 crosses, but unfortunately the high point lies on the other side of a 6ft deer fence - Climbed over in corner & across tussock to what appeared to be the high point W. of lochan at around NX 64445 983349. Continued to Mid Hill of Glenhead. (S)gerrybowes26/02/2020
