Circuit of The Wiss and associated tops from St Mary's Loch. 3 of 6thekirkie pirate29/09/2023
Parked, under forestry operatives advice, about 150m WSW along the track into Berryknowe Forest (NT275201). Forest track underneath Deadside until joined Captain’s Road and followed this to gate at NT264179. From gate out and back to both Shepherdscleuch Rig and Cowan’s Croft. On returning back along Captain’s Road, a detached track can be seen ascending the SE flank of Fall Law, this goes almost to the top, just 100m of tussocks after it and an easy descent can be made through open trees back to the forest road at its high point. Down Captain’s Road to join SUW at Riskinhope Hope. After the obligatory churned up bits, the SUW provides a ribbon of easy passage through tussock terrain to Pikestone Ridge, from where an ATV continues on the long ridge until it fizzles out in Squelch City 150m before the top.Isbjorn17/04/2023
From Hopehouse, parked by phone box (NT 2954 1648). Took Captain's Road for ~700m then peeled off for Ward Law (see that log for route info) then Cowan's Croft. From there followed fenceline NW to cross Captain's Road and take a steep break due N up to here. On to Shepherdscleuch Rig -> Tuishielaw, dropping down to re-join Captain's Road at the fords.jonglew30/10/2021
Same as PGCE parking at NT275 201 to bag Berry Knowe ~ Fall Law ~ Cowan`s Croft ~ Shepherdscleuch Rig. Easy round using forest tracks and fire breaksAndrew Simmons25/07/2021
Parked at entrance to forest (275201) for a circuit of Berry Knowe, Cowan's Croft, Shepherdscleuch Rig and Fall Law (up track from S).PGCE19/03/2021
The technical term for this hill is lemon squeezy. From Berry Knowe by unmapped road to the south which forks near a pond. Either branch will access a good wide built path which leads easily to the summit clearing from the south. Two summits, money is on the west one. Captain’s Road has been tamed.. easy built path all the way to the Cowan/Shepherdcleuch col.fasgadh13/09/2020
Loch of the Lowes car park at 238204 - Up SUW to 256187 & then up waymarked path to higher forest track - Along track to forest corner & then N. up concealed & debris-strewn firebreak to unmarked tussocky summit. Continued to Shepherdscleuch Rig, Cowan’s Croft & Ward Law. (S)gerrybowes21/06/2018
From Glen Cafe south of loch and up track to Peniestone Knowe. Dropped to col and up by fence then deer fence to Ward Law's large cairn. Back along fence line to Cowan's Croft then down to col and up to Shepherdscleugh Rig. Back to Captains Road (horrid) then up firebreak to Fall Law in its haven surrounded by trees. Back down to track to end of forest then up The Wiss coming down by west ridge to Tibbie Shiels Inn. Sun shone all day - great walk.SS21/04/2018
