Logged Descriptions  (logged by 47 users)ByDate of Ascent
Parked, under forestry operatives advice, about 150m WSW along the track into Berryknowe Forest (NT275201). Forest track underneath Deadside until joined Captain’s Road and followed this to gate at NT264179. From gate out and back to both Shepherdscleuch Rig and Cowan’s Croft. On returning back along Captain’s Road, a detached track can be seen ascending the SE flank of Fall Law, this goes almost to the top, just 100m of tussocks after it and an easy descent can be made through open trees back to the forest road at its high point. Down Captain’s Road to join SUW at Riskinhope Hope. After the obligatory churned up bits, the SUW provides a ribbon of easy passage through tussock terrain to Pikestone Ridge, from where an ATV continues on the long ridge until it fizzles out in Squelch City 150m before the top.Isbjorn17/04/2023
From road end for a round of Pot Law, Bodesbeck Law, Nowtrig Head, Mid Rig, Bell Craig, Andrewhinney Hill, Trowgrain Middle, Herman Law and Peniestone Knowe.rhalstead02/06/2022
Roadside verge parking opposite entrance to Riskinhope Farm (NT 2307 1892). Peat Hill, Craig Hill then Scabcleugh Hill first, then an easy walk north over the 396m spot height up to here. On to East Muchra Hill and return for a 12.6k round.jonglew15/04/2022
Parked by Ettrick village hall. Via church then good path before veering off to reach summit of Craig Hill. Descended roughly NW and rejoined path and the Southern Upland Way. Took a steep traversing line to reach the NE top of Peniestone Knowe, then Peniestone Knowe summit (several mounds could be the top, but the cairn looks lower). Fairly direct route to Scabcleuch Hill, then contour round under Corse Hill and steep climb SW to Sandtraie Knowe. Continued to Cossars Hill and descent to the road and return to Ettrick. Mist quite low for most of walk with drizzle for much of the timeRobertP16/10/2021
From Riskinhope way mark path then along ridge to the top. Bagged Peat Hill on the way back.Andrew Simmons16/09/2021
Short diversion off SUW. Quad track up beside fence from col, but I went up a shallow gully from bend in SUW to the east - about 10m up, there is a handy bowl to leave a rucksack out of sight of passersby.PGCE05/09/2020
Parked opposite Glen Cafe at 238204 & up The Wiss. From The Wiss, back down ATV tracks & trods to SUW & then along SUW to foot of Pikestone Rig - ATV track up ridge; this 'disappeared' about 300m from the summit cairn. Descended on decent tracks to Loch of the Lowes & then above E. side of loch back to car. (S)gerrybowes14/01/2020
From turning place at end of road near Potburn. Potburn, Pot Law, Bodesbeck Law, Nowtrig Head, Mid Rig, Bell Craig, Andrewhinney Hill, Trowgrain Middle, Herman Law, Peniestone Knowe, Ward Law, Tushielaw Inn. 1/8 cloud, light breeze, 21C. With PM.CJM10/10/2018
9th for the day heading NE before going over to Ward Law with CM.bolton10/10/2018
From Glen Cafe south of loch and up track to Peniestone Knowe. Dropped to col and up by fence then deer fence to Ward Law's large cairn. Back along fence line to Cowan's Croft then down to col and up to Shepherdscleugh Rig. Back to Captains Road (horrid) then up firebreak to Fall Law in its haven surrounded by trees. Back down to track to end of forest then up The Wiss coming down by west ridge to Tibbie Shiels Inn. Sun shone all day - great walk.SS21/04/2018
East Muchra Hill, Peniestone Knowe, Peat Hill, Nether Hill, Bowerhope Knowe, anti-clockwise from Tibbie Shiels. Amazing clear blue skies, once I'd climbed out of the freezing fog at the loch side.agentmancuso21/01/2017
fall law, shepherdscleuch rig, cowans croft, peniestone knowe, east muchra hill from tibbie shiels.robertphillips16/06/2016
From N, Riskinhope, waymarked path to Pikestone Rig, quad track continues up ridge almost to summit, very windy. Back via Peat Hill. On way out, was set on by 5 dogs at Riskinhope, lady seemed very unfriendly too but she never caught me up. Very disappointing in Scotland, and on a ScotWays green-signposted route.RHW14/03/2014
Parked near Capplegill then used track to Bodesbeck Farm. Track towards col then Bodesbeck Law, Nowtrig Head, Mid Rig, Bell Craig, Andrewhinney Hill, Trowgrain Middle and Herman's Law before Chris Watson went to collect the car while I pressed on with Minto to bag TuMPs Peniestone Knowe and Peat Hill.Dugswell209/11/2013
Start from the cafe at Grid 237204. Route up to Mid Rig.smocks and denims19/09/2009
